***OFFICIAL Twins vs. Yankees Playoff Thread*** (1 Viewer)

how the hell was that not a reviewable play? can baseball not get anything right? the f'ing ball is out of play...it isn't a matter of subjectivity, it's cut and dry...just like a home run. makes absolutely no sense that something like that isn't reviewable. there needs to be a ####### logic and discretion amendment for replay review in all sports.

It's baseball, and although it's my favorite sport by far, baseball/Bud Selig refuse to ever be forward thinking in making obviously needed changes to the game. Look how long it took them to do anything about roids. Still nothing to address the payroll discrepencies, etc. It's sad. I envy the NFL and the way they are always adapting and changing to what the audience wants.Baseball showing playoff/World Series games at 8:30/9 Eastern Time on School/Work nights is another thing that Selig just refuses to change.
ALCS games this yr start at 757. They changed it

I think I knew that too.How about the World Series? That was the main gripe of most of the critics.
yep

:pickle:

Sweet.

Crazy strike zone all night.... bad call in left.

No, that is the gripe of crybabies on the East Coast who feel that games should start so early to where those on West Coast have missed most of the game by the time they get home from work.

Nice win Yankees. The Twins had every chance in the world to win this one and didn't take advantage.

And horrible umpiring all around. Jeez.

Twins made the playoffs because they played good fundamental baseball. Not sure whats goin on in this series but theyre making mistakes like a minor league team.

Some great umpiring
home plate umpire was horrible too. That pitch trax thing is not kind to them
Plus I felt like the pitch trax was off.... I was thinking they should have a computer track the umpire calls and then adjust the pitch trax maybe with a dotted line/box.... That would really show how bad the umps are though by showing inconsistency.I would have liked some overhead shots.I might go for some classic John Sterling over these announcers next game.

it seemed it was off for some pitches but overall it seemed pretty accurate to me.

;) I don't believe you could deal with that.
I'll say it again.... I'll say it a million times....

If it weren't for Suzzane Waldman, I'd have no problem listtening to Sterling all the time... especially over the TBS crew

Keep this one in perspective Yankee fans. Fun to win in that manner but they probably shouldnt be struggling this much against a mediocre team.

You arent getting out of bases loaded no out next round.

Depends on who the ump is.

:lmao: One game at a time man. Celebrating this win only means that

Just got home so sorry this is late but -

How do you miss that ####### call? It wasn't even close. Wow. That's really horrible. No doubt he should be disciplined.

MLB uses seniority instead of skill when picking playoff umps, regardless of what they say...when you have turds like this guy and Buckner, you know that is the case.

I was wrong. About most everything. Pretty good team here.
:thumbup:But, You should have heard Sterling make the calls.
Sadly (for many reasons), I moved to Boston a couple months ago and don't get the pleasure anymore. :lmao:Sort of a tangent...Sports radio here, by the way, is utterly unlistenable. Every station on the dial is absolute garbage. It doesn't even matter what time of the day it is...for a place that prides itself on being one of the best sports towns, it's shocking how bad this place is to get anything redeeming on the dial. Getting the car outfitted with an XM/Sirius install this weekend, I can't deal with it.

I mentioned it a few weeks back, but Phil Cuzzi is the worst ump in baseball history. He's just terrible, has a ridiculously short fuse, and is more worried about being a tough guy than getting calls right.

Second, Sterling's calls were good but not classic unintentional humor (at least by his standards).

I LOVE Ron Darling as a broadcaster. In my opinion, there's no one better in the game today as an analyst. Too bad Chip Caray is so awful. He must say the word "fisted" 10,000 times a game.

Marte may have pitched himself off the ALCS roster.

Teixeira's throw home for the second out in the top of the 11th was something Giambi NEVER would've been able to do. It wasn't a great play or anything, just routine...but it really exemplified how bad Giambi's D was these last 7 years.

Plate ump was ridiculously bad all night, strike zone kept moving in, out, up, strangely never really down. Very frustrating.

Go Yanks, finish this thing off Sunday!

Cuzzi is the same brainless dolt who ejected Jim Edmonds and Tony La Russa from Game 4 of the '05 NLCS after he called Edmonds out on strikes on a pitch that was inside and nearly shoulder high. He sucks.

It's been a while since I followed baseball but the pitcher turning around and throwing the ball into the gap is still a bad thing, right?

GB Joe Pepitone as the LF umpire!

Umpiring has been awful for most of the season, but last night it was beyond awful.

A-Rod is swinging like it's the regular season, and Tex, CC and AJ are answering the questions. Hopefully they get a nice start from Andy (and drill that thief Pavano at the same time) and close this thing out on Sunday!

The Twins are extremely tough and last night may have been different if Morneau were playing.

Man that was a fun and painful all at the same time game. Nice to see Joba in his correct role (yes, that whole thing still bugs me). If Alex and Mark keep hitting like this I pity all the other teams that come a knocking.

Twins made the playoffs because they got ridiculously hot for a month, while Detroit completely #### the bed. They also made the playoffs because of a terrible call by the home plate umpire (Inge got hit by the pitch).

what about the Michael Cuddyer play at the plate vs OAK in July?

twins wouldnt have needed a game 163 if it wasnt for that terrible call

Whew. Thank goodness that's over. As soon as the Angels won I was worried this was going to get interesting. Now let's hope they focus on what they need to focus on for this Angels team.
