Sounds like he wants an extension. I hope we don't give up a top prospect and give him an extension at his age. But I can see dusty pushing for it to happen.
I've talked myself into this being a defensible on-field move and a great off the field move, where he can replace Desmond in the clubhouse and the community. An extension would definitely kill that vibe.Sounds like he wants an extension. I hope we don't give up a top prospect and give him an extension at his age. Can you please document the number of outings Dusty has allowed pitchers to go 140 pitches? Maybe over the last 10 seasons he managed.GordonGekko said:Several things stick out about Dusty Baker to the Nationals. First, is he going to completely destroy Lucas Giolito. And just about any other young arm in that system. Erick Fedde already had Tommy John once, can you imagine these kids after throwing 140 pitch games on Bakers whim. Second, unintentionally, if Phillips does move over, that opens up 2nd base for Jose Peraza in Cincy, who has prospect 80 grade speed, which makes me wonder if that Todd Frazier trade, the Dusty Baker pickup and Peraza on the move over and over this past year ends up getting everyone a value late round speedster.
I like it better than the Brandon Phillips option.Don't mind signing Murphy but don't like giving up first round pick to do so. Even if we are getting one back for Desmond.
Please don't ask that guy to post anything else in this thread. TIA.Can you please document the number of outings Dusty has allowed pitchers to go 140 pitches? Platoon with Turner? Drew is a very good fielder though and he has some clutch hitting periods in his career. It's one year and he plays three infield positions, he offers flexibility but he's not a guy you lean on.Stephen Drew signs with Nats. A left handed hitting infielder that can't hit either righties or lefties. Great.
I don't think he'll be in a platoon. I think he'll be depth so Turner can play full time at AAA to start the year. My guess is Murphy at 2B and Espinosa at SS opening day. If they get 2012 or 2015 Espinosa it'll stay that way for most of the year, if they get 2013 or 2014 Espinosa they'll give Turner a shot after a month or two. Either way I don't see Drew getting more than spot starts, barring injury.Platoon with Turner? Drew is a very good fielder though and he has some clutch hitting periods in his career. Maybe defensive replacement for Murphy and both Turner and Difo stay in minors.Platoon with Turner? Drew is a very good fielder though and he has some clutch hitting periods in his career. Your paying a guy 14M a year to need a defensive replacement?Maybe defensive replacement for Murphy and both Turner and Difo stay in minors.Platoon with Turner? I'm not paying him anything but he's not the first player to have a nice contract that sucks on defense, right?Your paying a guy 14M a year to need a defensive replacement?Maybe defensive replacement for Murphy and both Turner and Difo stay in minors.Platoon with Turner? Numbers are a better hitting and faster Span. I have no idea about his defense though.Storen for Revere. I'm not sure Revere is the answer in CF, but I guess decent return for Storen.
Cespy going back to the Mets. Too much deferred money in the Nat deal. Don`t see why that would be an issue.Don Quixote, on 21 Jan 2016 - 2:27 PM, saidon Quixote, on 21 Jan 2016 - 2:27 PM, said:Cespedes rumors are heating up.

Hearing nats are pressing to get cespedes deal done. Belief is they're willing to go to about 100M/5 yrs, maybe a bit more.
I think it was the opt-out after this year that the Mets gave him that was the difference. Also lost out on Heyward because of the opt-out. It doesn't really make sense for the Nats to do that because I assume part of the appeal would be having him under contract should Bryce leave.Cespy going back to the Mets. Roark's not a bad #5, really. Better than most.Nats done with free agency? Are there any big bats left out there? I guess they could trade for Lucroy but hope they don't give up too much.
What pitchers are left? Or do they trust Roark at #5?
Seems like Nats finished #2 on a lot of guys this year in free agency.
He was hurt at the beginning of the year, and never really got into a groove once he came back (although he did seem to finally pick up at the end of the year). I think he'll bounce back some, but having trouble staying healthy was one of the scuttlebutts on him when he was drafted. What are the thoughts on Rendon this year? Guy went from a top 15 pick to being a complete afterthought.
I heard Cespedes has an opt out clause after one year. It is essentially a 1 year, $27.5M contract. That is steep.Cespy going back to the Mets. Too much deferred money in the Nat deal. Nope! Nice of the team to be so considerate of your inquiry and send him to minor league camp just a few minutes after your post.Trea going to break camp with the Nats?
Time for a new edition of a classicMichael Taylor mashing in the preseason. If they run that corpse Werth out there more than Taylor, then that won't end well. Give Revere and Taylor 80% of the at bats in left and center, give Werth the starts vs lefties and pinch hitting duties.
I wish. These things have a way of working themselves out, though. They'll sit Werth twice a week I think. Those starts, plus some platooning with Revere, plus late inning defensive subs, plus the inevitable injuries should get Taylor up to basically a full season worth of playing time.Michael Taylor mashing in the preseason. Totally agree. Just call it early. This is exactly the reason you leave a day off after the home opener. Hell, I already pulled my leave request for tomorrow.Hopefully they postpone opening day until Friday. No sense standing out in the rain all day tomorrow.
They don't like me to participate in "Signature Sundays" because the crush of autograph hounds is a public safety hazard, but sometimes I'll wander over to the 1B side when I'm getting loose for a long day of watching painful Jayson Werth ABs.Also never met Tobias but he was on the big screen at the game for being some "Capital baller." No idea what that means but that dude is legendary, hoping to get his autograph when I am at the park in late April.
