***Official*** Washington Redskins 2013 Thread (1 Viewer)

Defense didn't help, but after the game as strange as it sounds...I blamed the offense/coaching. At halftime we basically had 100 yd rusher and for some reason we came out throwing the ball more. We scored 3 second half points!!! One field goal on the opening drive. Our offensive line was dominating the DL and pushing this way, that way and any way we want...second half comes and we let them pin the ears back and go after it.

Here is another thing that does not bode well for Shanny Jr., we seem to get plays in late very often. Why? Get organized or make an executive decision, if this can't be done on the regular...then maybe it's too much for a certain person to handle.

Worst part of it all, every time we lose I think, Oh St. Louis is liking that. Errrrrr!!!!!

Another I noticed from last night, barely any penalties...there were several times I though a holding call could have been made, but nada. Strange how a few penalties there were called.

All this talk about the Skins in this area is going to be great when the Cowboys and Eagles lose on Sunday which is very possible. All of the 'season is over' and "fire Shanny and bring in Cowher or Gruden" people are going back to the "8-8 and 7-9 is going to win the division" and "we control our destiny in the playoffs".

I'm probably the optimistic Skins fan. I'm not even sure if 8-8 is possible at this point. With games still against KC, SF, @Atlanta, Dallas, @Philly, and NYGx2. We'd have to go 5-2 during that stretch. Not impossible, but it won't be easy. I don't see us winning either the KC or SF games, so there's 8 losses right there. So we'd have to win the rest of the division games and beat Atlanta on the road. Going to be tough sledding.

I know this team went on a crazy run last year, but I don't trust the defense at all. They're allowing 32ppg. You can't keep expecting the offense to score 34ppg to win.

Skins were +1 in turnover margin too.

Special teams and penalties (Skins 8 for 63 yards, Vikings a you-gotta-be-kidding-me 1 for 7 yards). The story of this season.
I thought the Vikings got away with a bunch of calls. There was the holding on Reed that seemed pretty obvious at the goal line on the final drive. Seemed like they were also getting a few late shots on RG3 that weren't called. Definitely some holding calls that they got away with on Kerrigan. Not the best officiated game. Not putting all the blame on the officials, but they weren't exactly making things better. Especially the BS call on Baker for roughing the passer. Guess you can't put your helmet in a guy's chest?
I watched the replay & expected one of the announcers to be incredulous about that call, but they just kind of glossed over it. The ref specifically said "contact with the head," but I saw NONE; not Baker's helmet sliding up the chest into Ponder's chin, not a hand brushing the helmet, nothing.

agree 100%. The defense is terrible, everyone knows that. But last night the offense was controlling the game. They left points on the field and Shanny Jr set up the O to fail. He has an odd habit of going away from Alf when it's working. He also doesn't seem to adjust when the opposing defense does. Hey, how about running a middle screen to take some of that inside heat off or something? Then the last TD pass attempt? Ugh.

In games, when RGIII is off the mark on some of his throws and we got 3 n out...I notice the play calling doesn't change. I guess what I'm saying is that the play calling doesn't help RGIII (or nay QB) get the confidence or accuracy back. Most teams will set up some simple passes to help spur on the passing game, we still expect a awesome bomb to be the answer. Of course, there is a small chance that is RGIII and not the coach (Shanny Jr), but I doubt it.

Yep. I couldn't believe how bogus that was.

So you would consider a 7-9 record, making the playoffs and getting blown out in round one a successful season?

Philly won. The Giants won and have climbed from the depths to tie the Skins for last place in the division. If you're looking for a bright spot this past weekend the only thing I can come up with is "I bet we coulda held New Orleans to 48 points, with some breaks, so we might be able to beat the Cowboys, with some breaks."

I don't think so but you can blame the Seattle Seahawks for that new mentality. The new mentality is that all you need is a chance and the Super Bowl is all yours. The reality was that even though they beat the Saints in the wild card they were a huge underdog the next week and an even bigger miracle in the NFC Championship game if they won that

Not sure what to expect this week. Really depends on the defense.
I still refuse to believe that Philly's as good as some people think. And I definitely refuse to believe that Foles is a good QB. But, of course, I don't believe the Redskins are good either. Still waiting for them to play a complete game.

I agree with both of those points. Think the Eagles are a tad overrated. I mean Foles threw all over a bad Raiders team and an injured Packers D. Not saying he won't have a good day against our crap D, but he hasn't really done it against any good teams. And everyone seems to forget about the AWFUL game he had against Dallas a few weeks ago.

Maybe over rated, but remember we sure made them look good in the season opener. Sit back, wait and see...is all we can do at this point.

I've been concerned all week that the Skins will just go out and fall apart tomorrow. Their confidence seems shot, they seem angry and frustrated and confused. I could see a couple things not going their way early (big plays, penalties) and then just panic. I hope not. I'd like to see a methodical, workmanlike game ending in a win. Just not too confident that will happen though.

Entire division is a joke this season, so we fit right in. Hard to believe how far the NFC East NFL has fallen.
Fixed.
LOL, if the NFL is a joke...then what does that make the NFC East? Has to be worse cuz this division is leading the way of hysterical laughter.
Worst of the worst. Welcome to the culmination of the effort for parity. A league of seriously flawed teams who are only as good as the health of their starters.

Add in the complete bastardization of the game with regards to defense and this is what you get.

But I'm just an old curmudgeon who grew up reading about Forest Gregg, Butkus, and watching guys like Reggie White , LT and Ronnie Lott.

Which defense should I start in my fantasy league today --- Eagles or Redskins? I'm trying to maintain a firm grip on last place. :D

The skins will make Foles look like the second coming of Johnny Unitas.

Well, I agree with you and this has been the case for sometime that all the money gets wrapped up in starters. Not leaving much for backups, which then hurts the team as injuries compound a team. Dominate teams from the 80's and 90's did well because they could afford to keep talent in the wings, price was no object. That is why certain teams always stayed on the bottom. Of course, parody is great for those historical basement teams as their subpar roster now can compete. In turn, those of us who grew up in the age where our teams were one of the others who spent and cultivated talent...we have a tough time adjusting as we continually compare to the past and the glory years.

Josh Morgan inactive. Nick Williams up from the practice squad to return kicks and punts.
Who does that put on the field on offense instead of Morgan?
Morgan has been lining up less and less on offense. Hankerson has been WR2 for a while now. Moss still gets plenty of snaps and maybe Robinson gets a slight bump in plays. But, I don't expect a ton of 4 WR formations. Reed can act like a WR.

I think today's going to be the turning point for a lot of fans, one way or another.

This is the week that we win, and look like a complete team capable of another unlikely win streak, or we look like we have all season. Either way it will answer a lot of questions and be the turning point for many on the fence with this regime.

The tension between RG3 and Kyle is insane. Look at them on the sideline. And that's the second time in two weeks that RG3 has had to wait for the play call in the redzone, and then shook his head at it. This is coming to a head, especially the more we lose.

They are who we thought they were. I know there was some optimism out there. But I doubt anyone is truly surprised at what they saw today.

Not surprised at all. in the offseason we need to seriously address the passblocking of the line. Hes getting hit much more in the pocket than outside the pocket which hurts his ability to grow as a passer. I think once he has a full offseason as a pro QB, in addition to some added talent(oline, secondary, WR) now that we will have some cap space, we should be able to make some significant steps forward. for now, i am just looking to see RG3 get better each week and do his best to avoid being beaten up in the pocket.

Love me some RGIII, but there are a few things I am seeing from him that have started to worry me a bit. Fundamentally, he just can't seem to learn how to throw the ball away. The INT at the end of the game is prime example...WHY just throw it up for grabs when still enough time and it's not 4th down? Second, I don't have the luxury of having DMV media (other than twitter), but I don't see or hear of him taking the onus of bad plays or games...has anyone? He appeared to be of such strong character, but I have yet to even see him (on camera) once tell a WR/TE that it was his bad. These are two worrisome things I see popping up a lot this season...

I'm seriously thinking of not getting the Sunday Ticket next year....the only reason I get it is to watch my 'skins since I left the DMV, but it's getting hard to spend good money to watch the product being sold by the B & G. I just don't know anymore why I keep thinking I will see something different.

The team was dead for 3 quarters. Then they mount a series of drives, enough to salvage an Honorable Mention loss. I've seen this movie far too often now.

Just a dead team.

This is really disappointing, and pretty convincing.

I really thought the loss to the Vikings was the one that was truly telling. This one was just a reaffirmation. When you can't even get past the Minnesota's of the league, you aren't going anywhere.

Was the same problem in the 1st Philly game. We finally get things going, but it's just too little, too late. I honestly don't know what direction this team should go in. Do we keep Shanny? Do we fire Haslett? Do we get rid of all the coaches and start over? I really have no idea.

There was no excuse for dodging that punt at the end there. Terrible.
I guess we shouldn't expect much when we have horrible Special Teams and they call up a PS guy out of nowhere to start returning punts. Not one mention of this guy and how well he's looked, but come well into the season he's given the reins to spearhead our return duties....Hmmm...sounds like a desperate move by a team with no viable options.

Haslett and Kyle needs to go for sure, Dad will never drop his son, so he will go also. 2014 is his last year, and he basically will be a lame duck coach, No player is going to come here for that. Who do they get? I don't know. They need almost everything. I want someone who knows how to use 88,86,46, and 10 the right way. I am also tired of this 3-4 BS I would like to see Rak and Ryan in there natural 4-3 DE spots. I think the coach from Stanford and the Baylor coach are probably on the radar. Would also like a personal guy from a team that knows how to build, I hate going through this year I hate going through this year in and out,

Was at the game, and he was fair-catching punts when there wasn't an Eagle within 20 yards of him. Also, letting that punt before the last drive bounce instead of coming up to field it was a massive blunder and really put WAS in the hole.

YES

YES

YES

Me Too

I love the stability the organization has had with Shanny and Allen, but the same song is becoming our theme. Shanny making the personnel choices and going into last year of contract with $18+ mill in salary cap is scary. If he were to stay, he has to remove his son and I doubt he can do that. Haz, seen enough to know that it's just not going to improve and when the JAX is the only defense worse than what we got...can't see how another Defensive Coord could be worse than Haz. As far as the whole staff, I say YES because we have way too many games where the team doesn't show up until the second half or 4th quarter. That is on the coaches, either not getting team ready or adjusting on the fly. Seen it too many times to not think it's coaches opposed to just players being flat.

I don't pretend to know who should be the next coach should be, but as long as Snyder still has hands off of talent decisions and is not using our team as a fantasy football team then we should be okay.

Great observation...I wondered about a fair catch or two from the TV perspective and you now confirmed it for me. Thanks!

To be fair, the Skins gave up a ton of 1sts for RGIII and then got hit with a cap penalty that made it difficult to add talent. Now that the cap penalties are through with WAS can add some UFA.
