The coaches are probably having a tuff time judging our return game bcuz our cover team is being used against the return team in practice. Our cover team sucks just as bad, so the coaches must think the return is pretty decent and then scratch their heads after a game thinking "wonder why we can't get any return yards?"

I've made fun of them using a TE for KO returns in the past, I'd prefer the TE at this point. Morgan can't seem to master the idea that you want to be running forward when you catch the kickoff. Way too often, he runs up, stops, catches, hesitates, and then begins his return.I think Paul did punts in college too, so I wouldn't mind giving him a shot there if Moss isn't used.

Don't sleep on the Redskins this weekend. You don't have to stop Peyton, you just have to score more points and this offense is back to scoring in bunches. Not saying I think they'll win necessarily, though it's not inconceivable by any stretch of the imagination, but I certainly like them to cover. Lots of nice long sustained drives to keep him off the field and tire their defense is obviously going to be key. And special teams not writing themselves in the script in all the wrong ways. Keep penalties and ST in check, and they should be able to stay competitive. Ride Jordan Reed up the seam all night long.

Yeah, I'm fairly confident the game will at least be competitive for a while and they won't embarrass themselves.
I definately noticed that Morgan is not catching punts well. The punt returner needs to catch the punts to prevent them from bouncing around and pushing you further back.
Chris Cooley was critical of the blocking on punt and kickoff returns again. He mentioned that the Redskins only have two kickoff returns over 20 yards. They rarely reach the 20 when they do return it.

This regime needs to go. Kyle can't call plays and his offense is uninspired. Haslett's defense--I don't even need to come up with a descriptor, we all know how bad it is. ST's are a joke every week. Allen is a figurehead--woohoo, PR and alumni relations! Mike can't build a talented team, and shouldn't be trusted with our draft.
So what's the point. Get them out of here. Start fresh. No re-treads. Start with a personnel guy who has never been a GM (but deserves it) let him hire his staff from the top down. Most importantly, again, no re-treads.

yep, clean house. This staff maxed out their potential. The special teams and defense are a joke. The offense can't compete with the better defenses they come across. I know some people want to give Shanny the benefit of the doubt due to the cap penalties. I am willing to do so if he gets rid of the special teams coach and Haslett. The lack of development in the OL is depressing too.

Offense was a total joke today. Against a D that was giving up nearly 400 yards per game, our offense struggled for most of the game. The pressure up the middle was unacceptable, but not nearly as bad as the refusal by the coaching staff to adjust to it. It appeared the the offense was just going through the motions once they fell behind in the 4th.

Assuming I had decision-making power with the Redskins:
Haslett goes at the end of the season, whether Mike likes it or not.
Ken Burns goes at the end of the season, whether Mike likes it or not.
Kyle Shanahan gets told by Mike, now, to stop the panicked playcalling (which shuts off the effective run game and concentrates on the weaker passing game).
Mike gets told, now, that if the team continues to not show up, or to appear clueless/helpless on the field that he's gone at the end of the year.
Draft offensive linemen who can pass protect.
Draft cornerbacks who can cover.
Draft safeties who can cover.
Teach Griffin better decision-making in the pocket. Hanging on to the ball trying to make hero plays is hurting the team.
That's for starters.

Morris was averaging 5 yards a carry. Naturally Kyle avoided him as soon as the Broncos tied the score. Kyle deserves a lot of the blame for this one, calling plays they weren't executing well instead of plays they were, and giving Denver the ball back quickly.
Well said, particularly with the bolded. Griffin needs a good strong OC to mentor/coach him up.
Rg3 definitely trying to do a little too much hero plays out there. He needs to learn there are throw away plays and when to do those. I also hate how Kyle abandons the run. I thought they were showing signs of not doing so, but this week they went back to that pattern once the game got close again. RG3 makes a lot of his living off of play-action, but if the D isn't respecting it, he's getting killed. Those WRs screens to Garcon must be getting tipped off on formation or something as well, teams are all over him before he can even get started. It's happened multiple times in games.

That game was ugly. Where was the offense all game? Outside of the drive before the half, they didn't even both to show up. It's not like the Broncos defense is some dominant force and we made them look like a top D in the league.

And why all the deep shots downfield? They weren't working. What happened to the quick slants and outs? Kyle's play calling was the worst I've seen.
Our OL looked terrible once again. Couldn't block and RG3 was getting pressured almost every play. The WRs need to get open though. There were times when the OL did give RG3 time, but no one was open.

I think the current regime has a done a pretty good job drafting. Especially when contrasted against Cerrato. I'd hate to lose that.
Don't forget to factor in the $18M cap hit for 2 years in a row.
I hate our playcalling, and our defensive scheming is inept, as is our special teams.
I'd probably keep Allen. I'd keep Mike if we could fire his son, seems unlikely that can be done though.

Here's a dose of reality, guys. We had ONE good season in recent memory, and it was last year. Before that, we were a mess, but by the posts in this thread, you would think we've been a perennial Super Bowl contender that has collapsed due to bad coaching.
These coaches/front office personnel turned a team that was annually a joke into a playoff bound division winner and now, halfway through the following season, you're calling for heads to roll and a total regime change. AFTER A LOSS TO THE BEST TEAM IN THE NFL. I have news for you - the Redskins are still a MUCH better team than when Shanny/Allen/etc. took over a few years ago.
Two steps forward and one step back - now everyone is running around in a tizzy, calling for heads.
That cap penalty would paid for a stud O-lineman AND a stud WR or DB, which would sure help the team right now. Shanny inherited a mess of a situation.
All of you need to un-bunch your underwear. It's like listening to a bunch of fickle, panicking school girls complain in this thread. I'm ashamed to say I'm a 'Skins fan when I read these posts. It sounds like most of you are band-wagon jumpers during the 2012 season because your expectations for 2013 were FAR too high for this team.

Fatness pointed out RG being hurt and participating in offseason is showing up, this is the real problem. He has not been able to naturally progress as he should have after last season. Everyone needs to remember he is a 2nd year player, so the injury taking away his regular offseason is significant and having serious affect on his ability to perform now. We as 'Skins fans keep looking for what we saw last year and at times get to see a glimpse of it a bit. Most times though, we are seeing a very raw product at the QB spot. Some things that are really bothering me when watching him this season:
1) He is not stepping into his throws - Way too many off the back foot or across his body type throws. which is just throwing it up for grabs
2) He doesn't know how to throw the ball away - Game against DEN was classic, he doesn't have the ticker in his head that says "nobody is open, time is up, get rid of it" Love faness' line in the thread "Hanging on to the ball trying to make hero plays is hurting the team."
3) Locks into receiver - His vision is stunted as he throws it into double coverage way too many times and misses to acknowledge WR's that wide open on the field.
All that said, the offensive play call has not been ideal either. As is debated often, the WR corps could be better and yes that would help, but it is not like they are scrubs either. Love the RG wants to make plays, but he needs to realize that a "play" can't be made on every play. To me, this is more inexperience shinning through than anything.

This is Shanahan and Allen's fourth year with the team. You didn't mention the first 2 years of failure. I have news for you --- one good year out of 4 doesn't cut it in the NFL.

They tried to go to Morris and Helu towards start of second half, but running game was getting shut down. 1-2 yards a carry or a loss of yards was the how it was going, if I recall correctly. Denver clearly decided, stop rushing attack at all costs and make RGIII beat us through the air. Kyle then dialed up 3 pass plays the next series and same result, 3 n out....the rest was history after that.

I don't know. Outside of Garcon, they're pretty bad. When Hankerson is a starter, the unit as a whole is in trouble.
I've been a huge Moss fan, but I'm finally done with him. I thank him for his time here, but I'm ready to move on. Very little speed and dropping too many passes now. He just doesn't offer much on the field. I know, I know, I should have reached that conclusion before. I'm slow to turn on players I really like.
Robinson is a one-trick pony. Unfortunately, he's not all that good at that one trick.
None of these guys (again, outside of Garcon) can make a play. None of them can bail out Griffin when a throw is a little off target or when he's on the run for his life and needs an outlet.
The Redskins top 5 playmakers on offense, in no particular order, are: Griffin, Morris, Helu, Garcon, and Reed. In other words, only 1 WR in their top 5. The other WRs just aren't capable of making plays.

I think you have some good points here and unfortunately the day after, especially on message boards, is filled with over reaction. I love the stability that Allen and Shanny have brought to the organization, this is something that the Redskins needed in the worst way. I mean, we actually draft players and some of them are truly productive. That said, there are a few things of concern and are becoming evident. Shanny has always struggled on the defensive side of the ball, great offense masks that many times. We are really starting to see that with our team now. Our problem is, the offense is not there and we are not consistent enough to mask the defensive shortcomings. I agree, the cap penalty is significant and I wonder would a Talib or Safety be the difference...maybe some OL help too. I'd love to say I have the answer to it all or that I had confidence that the coaching staff had the answer, but my gut says they don't or it is misplaced. For the first time (last year) in a decade, we had an offense that could truly score from anywhere on the field...it was exciting and kept us on the edge of the seat. Sad part is we were all fooled into thinking the team was better than it was (re: expectations) and that is why some of the fans began running while they should have still been walking.

It is tough to see the team take steps backwards and after all that the organization & fans have been through the past decade, it is amplified when we all felt our team become relevant again. We're still learning to walk before running because we've been crawling for so long...

I rag on him all the time, but he's played great since the GB game. And he's done it against some of the better WRs in the league: Calvin, Dez, Marshall, and Demaryius. Easily our best player in the secondary and one of the best players on defense behind Kerrigan.

The Skins gave up 3 1sts and a 2nd for RGIII. Add that to the cap penalties and you can see why the overall talent level isn't that high. Sad thing is there is still another 1st to go to STL. It's gonna be tough to put enough offensive talent around RGIII AND fix the defense through UFA. It's gonna take a couple years.
