Been trying to tell people that, but no one wants to listen.5. Don't judge a defense going against Tom Brady: Redskins reporters and fans were wondering if their defense was going to stink this year while watching the practices against the Patriots. I heard the same thing last year when the Patriots scrimmaged the Eagles. Stop. Brady would make the Steel Curtain look bad in a dual practice. In seven-on-seven and team drills, Brady is unstoppable. Running a hurry-up practice offense, Brady balances smarts with accuracy. Opposing defenses don't have a chance.
Last year, he destroyed an Eagles defense even though he had three rookies among his main targets. The young receivers are still young, but Brady can get the ball to Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola on just about any play. No quarterback is better than hitting an underneath pass in the red zone that could be taken into the end zone. Gruden called it poetry in motion watching Brady throw in practice. It is an honor to watch such perfection.
Agreed. I really didn't like the draft as it unfolded but no reason to keep harping on it. Let's give guys like Murphy, Long, Grant, and Seastrunk a year or two and see how things play out.Not necessarily over Bitonio, I really liked him as a RT/Swing tackle with OG possibilities too. I'm for trading back and gaining picks, so it didn't bother me when they did. I just don't think they made the most of their extra picks gained.
I think they are trying to really push Rak and Kerrigan this year b/c they will not be able to afford both, Murphy will take over for who walks. RG3's next contract pretty much guarantees we can not keep both Rak and Kerrigan.
I just hope they scout a quality OT for '15 draft. Still have my fingers crossed on Long. We won't know anything until he's completely healed, not out of the question that he pretty much redshirts 2014.
Good teams are generally 1-2 years ahead on replacing players that outprice themselves in FA. Pittsburgh and New England have done pretty well in recent memory, BPA regardless of needs is the only way to assure this. Always have depth and don't reach for talent even if it is a position of need. In regards to Bitonio, I definitely think he was a value in round 2, but once again, they gambled and lost.
Heard on the radio that Ryan Grant is a near lock to make the team at this point. Every report on him is positive.Everyone seems to like this Ryan Grant dude. Could be tough to break through the WR depth and make the roster, but he's reportedly been impressive.
A. Robinson has also had some good press. Will be interesting to see if Moss makes the cut.Heard on the radio that Ryan Grant is a near lock to make the team at this point. The University of Minnesota wants the Vikings not to mention the name of the Washington franchise in connection with that teams visit to the Land of 10,000 Lakes on November 2. The landlord of the stadium in which the Vikings will play for the next two seasons also has a request for the Washington team.
Bring your throwbacks.
According to Ian Shapira of the Washington Post, the University has requested that Washington not wear its current jerseys, since they bear the name and logo regarded as offensive by some in the Native American community. (The throwbacks have the profile of a Native American on the top of each sleeve; the University of Minnesota presumably wants those to be removed.) Those offended by the name and logo include the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, which donated $10 million toward the construction of the stadium.
That Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community issued a statement on Thursday explaining that it and other tribes oppose the name, and that the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community is working with the University of Minnesota to minimize the damage that could be done by invoking the name in a place that respects and honors the Minnesota Native American community.
Apart from asking Washington to not wear its usual uniforms, the University of Minnesota wants the Vikings to not sell Washington apparel or paraphernalia at the stadium, that the teams name not be mentioned by the public address announcer, that the teams name not appear on the scoreboard at the stadium, and that the teams name be omitted from the program and other materials relating to the game.
I didn't realize that. There have been posts scattered throughout this thread about the name stuff. Carry on.There's a thread in the FFA for the name talk. Keep this thread for football only
He's going to be doing color for NFL games this year. I can't wait.can't McNabb just go away? He sucks at EVERYTHING. I mean, he's just a horrible personality and STILL bitter.
Word so far is that he landed on his back, getting treatment. They hope it's just a bruise. What's the scoop on DeAngelo Hall?
I talked myself into this line of thinking last year, and will do it again this year. So, Alf got targeted once on the 1 series he was on. Didn't catch it (throw was bad imo), but I'm suspecting he'll be getting more targets than previous years... maybe a lot more.
And he can catch, despite the general consensus that he isn't near as valuable in PPR. I think he's going to be top 10 in any format this year.
Gruden loves to throw to the running backs. Alf will have more receptions this year than his previous 2 years combined imoSebowski said:I talked myself into this line of thinking last year, and will do it again this year. So, Alf got targeted once on the 1 series he was on. The thing is, I don't remember hearing any reports at all during the joint practices of this. I don't remember reading any tweets about it either. Why now? All love the "spoke with some members of the organization". Who agreed with this? Just seems strange to me.Archer said:I find this a little shocking to say the least....

After watching the Patriots-Redskins joint practices this past week, ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss came away thinking Robert Griffin III "didn’t look like the best quarterback on his own team."Reiss is a wholly unbiased observer, so this definitely caught our eye. He thought Kirk Cousins "was better" than RG3, running Jay Gruden's offense more efficiently.
Reiss says he spoke to members of the Patriots to double-check his observations of Griffin, "and then heard the same sentiment echoed by some others in the Patriots organization." Griffin remains a boom-or-bust 2014 fantasy prospect, learning a new offense where his running usage will be scaled back. Gruden wants to make RG3 more of a pocket passer. It may take time.
I always hated that they never threw to him just to keep the defense honest. If he was in and didnt run you knew he wouldn't be getting the ball. As did the defense.Gruden loves to throw to the running backs. If you are going to "gamble" on a RB, Morris a safe bet. It seems like last year was pretty close to his floor. While he wasn't great, he didn't kill you and could be a reliable starter every week. In PPR, last year he was a solid RB2. In 2012, he was a solid RB1. I'd rather have him than many of the guys with minimal track records.Sebowski said:I talked myself into this line of thinking last year, and will do it again this year. So, Alf got targeted once on the 1 series he was on. Rich TandlerHere are the five players I thought had the best training camps:Keenan Robinson—He hasn’t started a game at inside linebacker in the NFL but he sure looked the part. Robinson was impressive in pass coverage and seemed to be confident calling out the defensive signals. What we don’t know is if he can step up into a hole and drop LeSean McCoy one on one but so far, so good.
Alfred Morris—I am not normally impressed with running backs during training camp simply because it is hard to judge them when playing with either limited contact or no contact at all being permitted. But I’ll make an exception here because Morris has looked very sharp. He seems to have mastered the one-cut style of running. It would not shock me if he has a better year than he did in 2012.
Jordan Reed—If I racked my brain and asked around to the others who were there for every practice I might be able to remember Reed dropping a pass or an instance where he wasn’t exactly where he was supposed to be. It’s no accident that he rarely makes mistakes; he’s usually the first one on the practice field and the last one off every day.
Ryan Grant—He had the best single moment of training camp during a red zone drill during the first practice with the Patriots. He put on a double move that left a New England cornerback stunned and left Grant wide open in the end zone. As with Jordan, his next big blunder will be his first.
Chris Baker—The same caveat about no full contact applies here as well but Baker gets around so well for a guy his size that he should make big plays on Sundays the way he made them almost every day in training camp.
This is the usual "throw it out there to get attention" stuff we've seen for 3 years in a row now. It's not based on real football play. It gets attention (always) due to pre-existing biases among some fans (like rooting for the backup, or rooting for the black guy over the white guy, or rooting for the pocket QB over the running QB, or whatever) and it'll still be put out there 5 years from now and get support (and attention for reporters!!) for those reasons.I find this a little shocking to say the least....

He was back in practice without restriction a day later.Word so far is that he landed on his back, getting treatment. They hope it's just a bruise. What's the scoop on DeAngelo Hall?
He was just holding it for a friend...named Fred Davis.
Former Redskins safety Sean Taylor, who died in 2007 after being shot by intruders at his Miami area home, will be featured in NFL Network’s “A Football Life” documentary series this fall, a network spokesman confirmed. The hour-long program about Taylor is tentatively scheduled to air on Sept. 26; the network typically follows up such documentaries with additional programming, including further interviews and discussion.
This would be one I would want to watch for sure.
Yeah, it was a boneheaded move to trade back instead of drafting him. This news stings a little...
After visiting Browns camp, ESPN's Adam Caplan came away believing the team envisions LG Joel Bitonio as a future "star."
The 35th overall pick in May's draft, Bitonio was selected by receiver-needy Cleveland over the likes of Marqise Lee, Paul Richardson, and Allen Robinson. They loved his college tape, and Bitonio graded out as a top-eight run-blocking guard in the first week of preseason, per Pro Football Focus. Bitonio was facing the Lions' star-studded defensive line. It was an impressive debut.
Bowen's lucky to even have a renegotiated, cheaper contract. He's underperformed since he's been here and there is still no timetable at all on when he might be able to play again. The Redskins have reworked injured defensive end Stephen Bowen’s contract, according to ESPN.com.
Bowen, who was put on the physically unable to perform list at the outset of training camp, was due to earn $4.4 million in salary this season and carried a cap charge of $7.02 million.
The 30-year-old appeared in only 10 games last season and underwent microfracture surgery late last year on his right knee. He’s still rehabbing off to the side in practice, and Coach Jay Gruden has said there is no timetable for his return.
Details of Bowen’s new deal were not immediately available, although it would seem likely that he accepted a pay cut given his health and decline in production the past two seasons. Even if he returns to full health, Bowen is behind Jason Hatcher, Chris Baker and perhaps Jarvis Jenkins on the depth chart.
Yep! Unbelievable!Archer said:This news stings a little...

- Another time: DeSean Jackson sprinted past corner DeAngelo Hall with a stutter and go, leading to a wide open, easy completion downfield. And that led to a fun exchange as secondary coach Raheem Morris yelled to Hall, "You're the one who wanted to sign him DHall!" Morris then said, "You thought [Jackson] was going to block you? You know [Jackson] doesn't block."
- For what it's worth, it's not as if Jackson has routinely beat the starters in camp. Typically his deep receptions have come against third stringers. Hall has done a solid job against him in camp.
- Coach Jay Gruden chided the linebackers as they went one-on-one with the backs in a route-running drill, once telling linebacker Adam Hayward, "It's a little different than rushing Hayward! You got to cover someone!" Hayward then was beat by Roy Helu. But Hayward later got off his own zing, saying after Alfred Morris dropped a pass (one of two that were right in his hands), "You ain't got to cover him. He can't catch."
- Finally, fullback Stephen Campbell complained that Keenan Robinson was holding the [expletive] out of him. To which Robinson told him, "That's football." He then reminded him that he was a rookie. And outside linebackers coach Brian Baker went back and forth with tackle Trent Williams after the one-on-ones with the pass-rushers. Both were smiling.
- A little smack-talking in practice is fun and breaks up the monotony. It's clear the players enjoy competing. There's definitely more needling in camp this summer. Not like it never happened in the past, but it's more now.
After the Redskins acquired free agent wide receivers Andre Roberts and DeSean Jackson, it became apparent that the top of the depth chart at the position would be shaken up. Now it looks like there will be changes when receivers start coming off of the bench as well.
When Roberts, Jackson, or Pierre Garçon need to take a breather it could be rookie Ryan Grant or third-year player Aldrick Robinson coming into the game.
