OFFICIAL WIS XVIII THREAD: An Ode to Claude Hendrix (2 Viewers)

ERC isn't always the best measurement IMO. I don't think I even used it until about three sims ago, and even now I only passively incorporate it into my rankings.

I know the sim doesn't use ERC directly but I've found it to be more useful in evaluating relievers than starters

Did someone keep track of who made the playoffs in each one of these things? I wonder who has the most playoff appearances? I have to be top five. :bowtie:

I made like the first 8 or something, then went into a long drought before getting back last season.

I have 10 playoff appearances and 2 finals it looks like. You can look on your id.

I'm 43-48 in the playoffs. :(

Pretty much.

Playoffs are nice, but it is really hard to sustain this level of mediocrity: 1226 - 1227. No matter what I do in these drafts I almost always end up at .500.

4 playoffs with an amazing 7-15 record.

5.15 Dave Davenport, SP, Federal League
At long last. The 24th guy from my initial list of possible 1st rounders. Insane that he lasted as long as he did.
You think he's miles better than Eddie Plank's Fed season, or just a little better (way more IPs for sure)? Plank has the edge in some metrics, and Davenport has the edge in some.
It's not a massive difference, I think the extra 100 innings move Davenport slightly ahead, but you could probably build a team where you replaced those 100 innings with someone better (relievers) without crushing your offense by using too many high picks on said relievers. Maybe.

8 seasons

670-666 overall

3 playoffs

20-18 playoffs

2 Finals

1 Championship

My playoff record is heavily weighted by BTTF vs. Historical.

6.5 sp Doc White, 1900s

He was really, really good for me in one of these. Of course, I can't remember if it was one with a big player pool, in which case he could be a steal, or a limited player pool, in which case I could be an idiot.

It's a decade really deep with pitching but IMO he's great value here

In my first WIS with this group he made my season, guy was awesome. I always wait one round too long it seems, all Docs are balls deep.

With the Mc####ty pick, I've accepted that my team is going to suck. I had another, more practical pick in mind here, but #### it. I've got McGwire already, so let's go full shtick.

6.6- OF Sammy Sosa, 2000s

Laugh at me now. Go ahead, I've earned it.

McGwire and Sosa should be fun. Wish you were in Coors.

Sportsman's Park has a park factor of 1.08 (0 HR LF, +1 HR RF). They'll be fine.

6.7 - Jason Giambi, 1B, OAK, 2000s

Debated going several ways with this pick. Decided on Giambi and his 474 OBP.

ETA: Hoos texted.

He and Pops were the guys I was aiming for last go around, but decided I needed to anchor my weak defensive corner OF's with a stud in center before the inevitable run of good defense leadoff type guys went off the board.

Honestly I think he's the best pick since Davenport.

When I made the pick, I was expecting the reminders that he strikesout a lot. Both he and Big Mac strike out a lot, but they also walk alot, so...
