OFFICIAL WIS XVIII THREAD: An Ode to Claude Hendrix (2 Viewers)

Should we think about getting a couple of Hoos picks in before we get too far along? Maybe wait until DougB is up since there will be a lull there anyway?
Works for me. Need to get him some picks.
Not a bad idea. Wish we had an idea of the direction he wanted to go in the next ~5 rounds.

So we are look for a 1B, decent fielding OF, probably another SP and some bullpen arms over the next five or so.

What did hoo's say about his availability? Obviously he's dealing with serious ####, but would he rather we just pause tonight, let him catch up if he wants? Might be a nice distraction if he can get to it... as noted, hard to know a guys strategy. Does he have an OF in hand that he thinks will stick around late so he holds off? Stuff like that.

As of now he's skipped what, twice? Would rather give him the option if possible, especially with the decades format. Would hate to take a guy that he wanted to wait on or that screwed up some decade plan.

Yup. To me, his lineup has the 1-4 slots set, but lacks what would be a true #5 hitter in this thing. With a 1B and OF slot open, he can get another slugger better than either of Petrocelli or Hoiles.

From the remaining 1B-OF pool, Hoos could easily get two power bats and drop Petrocelli & Hoiles down to 7 & 8. To get a better fielding OF (which he needs), however, seems to require some power trade-off. Maybe the 1B could be the true masher, and the fielding OF could basically be best bat available with B or better range?

If I were him, I'd want another RP soon, as well.

I'm OK with pausing. I know this group has taken some time to let me catch up when I was going through some ####.

Especially in this format, I would prefer to be skipped more than have people guess my players. Hell, even I can't guess wtf I'm going to do in this draft.

If needed we can do a co-owner type situation if he wants.

I'd err on the side of waiting in this format. Hoos has one 90s and one 2000s pick left. He may have been saving those for 2 big bats, or for 2 RP, or maybe one of each. Given the depth at those positions in those decades, he'll still be able to get good players there later if we wait.

for you guys that are saying 'wait' -- do you mean halt the draft and let him pick or keep moving and wait to let him catch up and use the picks at his discretion?

my 2 cents which means nothing. Finish the current round and wait and see if he pops in.

What those guys said. We've made great progress in this one, we can stop and take an intermission tomorrow. If hoos can's pick, we'll do it for him.

I'm cool with pausing at the end of this round to give Hoos some time to check in, make his picks, give us a direction, whatever he wants. Speed in this one has been really good so far.

Sounds reasonable. We will pause at the end of this round to let Hoos make his picks and weigh in on how he'd like to move forward. If we don't hear from him tonight, we may resume the draft tomorrow after making a couple of consensus picks to ensure he doesn't fall behind.

That's good commissionering here.

Sammy should jump in and make a couple picks.

The consensus draft pick idea does concern me. How do you arrive at a consensus? How can we avoid spotlighting, or rather spotlighting but someone not putting forth a player they don't want spotlighted... stuff like that. It may just be me, but I'd rather have to make up four or five picks all at once at this point of the draft than lose control of the team.

That said, whatever we do I'll be behind.

Hopefully Hoos pops in tonight. Would it be too disrespectful to shoot him a text asking him what he'd like us to do?

Does someone have his cell? Figured that venue would have been tried.

Maybe it's me, but with his dad in the state he's in, I'd be hesitant to text him out of fear of being rude. But that's me. Maybe I'm wrong, so that's why I threw it out there.

Why don't we just wait until tomorrow, see if he checks in, and if he doesn't we make his picks. I wouldn't text.

Thanks for all the kind words everybody. My Dad is doing ok right now. I think he knows its coming though, with the way he's talking. He asked me if he could have my body. Crazy old man. He did sign a do not resuscitate form, so when he goes he goes, which I think is best. They said his lungs are shot, something about hardly seeing them in an xray.. He's hooked up to some oxygen and thats it. They give him pain medicine when he asks.

Dont worry about my picks or hold up the draft. I'll going to try to get in some picks tonight. What do I owe? 3?
