And another thing

This guy Sabean has got to be the dumbest ### I've ever seen. What if you need to be in the market for a guy like Logan Morrison or Mike Stanton or Gaby Sanchez or Josh Johnson or whoever the hell else in a few years? Oops, these guys all hate your ####### guts because you're a crybaby moron who wished career death on their battery mate.

This is premeditated hate speech against some kid outfielder who was just doing his job (and well).

Sickels' review of the Giants' draft. He likes Joe Panik more than a lot of others.

1) Joe Panik SS, St. John's: One of my favorite players in the draft, due to on-base skills and excellent plate discipline, gap power, outstanding work ethic, and a chance to stick at shortstop due to his polish. I know some fans are disappointed in this pick but I think he'll have a better career than some guys picked ahead of him.1S) Kyle Crick, RHP, Texas HS: Here's your upside guy, can hit 96-97, curve has potential, should fit well into Giants pitching development system.2) Andrew Susac, C, Oregon State: First-round ability. Needs some polish but I really like his upside on both offense and defense. 3) Ricky Oropesa, 1B, Southern Cal: I like his power, but long swing could limit batting average. 4) Bryce Bandilla, LHP, Arizona: Big lefty with plus fastball and good changeup, could use better breaking ball and sharper command. 5) Chris Marlowe, RHP, Oklahoma State: Mid-90s fastball, plus curve, and outstanding K/IP ratios. Has command issues but could be a bullpen force. 5.05 ERA, fanned 71 in 41 innings but walked 34. 6) Josh Osich, LHP, Oregon State: Expected to be a supplemental pick but fell to the sixth round due to last-second injury worries for this Tommy John survivor. Plus stuff when healthy, could be a steal here if his arm is OK.7) Ray Black, RHP, Pittsburgh: Another hot fastball in the mid-90s, but with command problems and poor statistics. Intriguing if they can refine him.8) Jean Delgado, SS, Puerto Rico HS: Raw middle infielder, will need development time.9) Derek Law, RHP, Miami-Dade CC: Excellent statistics and he throws hard, but ugly mechanics turn scouts off. It will be interesting to see if the Giants leave him alone or try to make him more conventional.10) Kentrell Hill, OF, Arkansas Baptist JC: Athletic, fast, has power potential, but raw

I understand Wheeler's having some problems throwing strikes but I don't like giving up the team's top prospect in the Beltran deal at all.

It's hard to analyze deadline deals in the present tense. It's even harder when you're still committed to wearing a gigantic pair of Brian Sabean rose colored glasses.

Zack Wheeler is a good minor league arm; the best in the Giants system. The team has succeed recently by stockpiling arms like that, with exceptions like Scott Barnes and Tim Alderson. Wheeler is a better prospect than either of those guys, even though he's still walking 5 batters per nine.

It's an aggressive move from a front office that's sometimes been overly so. But I like that the organization recognizes that another playoff run with the current bats isn't going to be pretty. The team is positioned to make the playoffs again but would probably be underdogs in every series they play in. Who knows what will happen with Beltran, but he immediatly becomes the best offensive player on the team.

Sabean will look like an idiot if Wheeler pans out or if the team falters in August and September but he's looked like an idiot before. I have my reservations but I guess I'm glad the Giants are going for it while their window is open.
