Apparently I'm good luck for Craig Monroe... I've seen about 15 Tigers games this year, and Monroe is slugging around 2.000 in them. I've seen him hit a couple game-winning jacks as well.

Bonderman looks good. He has issues when he gets in jams at times but his breaking ball looks good and usually gets more movement on his fastball as the game progresses. His record is deceiving because he really should have won 18 but had some bad luck in August. Finishing second in the AL in strikeouts is indicative of what kind of pitcher he can be.

I bet a lot of teams can afford him now.The Yanks are on the hook for what, 10-12 mill a year? Already a lot of teams would love that production at that price.If the Yanks chip some in, you are talking HUGE production (great for a non playoff or borderline playoff team) for less than you could find on the open market, by far. A sub 10 Million dollar player that will go .300/40+/120+ ?

There are some idiot Tiger fans who want him gone. Guy is 23 with great stuff and a good aggressive approach to the game. Rumors are flying they want Texiera and Bonderman will be included. I'm irritated by this line of conversation. I'm really rooting for him in particular today.

Congrats to Le Tigres, because this game, and series, is OVER. The Return of Matsui and Sheff is the worst "blessing" to befall the Yankees this year. The team just had a different, special, grittier vibe when Melky and the outfielder du jour(Bernie, Guiel, Bubba) was patroling(even with Andy Phillips thrown in). Matsui could have fit in with those old Yankees, but somehow the vibe isn't right. And the mercenaries have worn away their welcome(Sheff, A-Rod, Big Unit, Farnsworth, Giambi, and even Mussina at this point who has had some huge moments). Even slotting Cabrera in today doesn't scream anything else but desperation, but Matsui is clearly two steps slower in left field and really let a run in yesterday with his slow step.
And this offseason should be one of, if not the, most fascinating in New York since the days of Reggie and Catfish.
This team will be absoltely nuked, blown apart at the seams. Sheff and Moose gone to free agency, A-Rod and Randy traded, maybe Giambi if they find a taker, and you have to wonder if they won't start to phase in Hughes next year. Rumors point to this big ticket Japanese import pitcher, Matsuda? Zito too, I'd reckon now. Who knows, this is simply pathetic. Give Gene Michael back some say with this team and maybe right the ship, but the meantime, this is simply shameful.
Few things could be worse than 2004, it was my personal sports 9/11. Maybe a Mets loss the same way would be up there. However, if not for 2004, I think getting pwned by Kenny Rogers for 7 2/3 is right up there with the bigger indignities I've ever suffered as a sports fan.
I'm going to rubberneck this game right into the ground. For a team that had such a great vibe, and was really kind of reminscent of the 96 Yankees, they definately revealed themselves to have a soul more inline with the recent choker vintage.

I looked it up...ARod signed a 10 year, $252 million contract before the 2001 season...Of the $179 million left on the contract at the time of the trade, Texas was obligated to pay $67 million, leaving $112 million for the Yanks over the remaining 7 years, or $16 million a year...

First post for me, and this seems as good a topic as any...
Read through this thread, and I'm wondering why people insist Jeter is such a "clutch" postseason performer. It appears to me that his postseason stats in every single offensive category are virtually identical to his regular season averages- it's actually almost eerie:

Isn't this a case of perception and selective memory? The guy's played in the postseason every year for ten years now. He's got almost a full season's worth of postseason ABs. You're gonna have a huge number of postseason "shining moments" if you do that. I'm sure if I went through this in more detail, I'd find plenty of horrible ABs in key postseason moments as well.
My theory is that it's because the Yanks run started the same time he burst on the scene, and also because he gets a lot of love from the media because he's a "good guy." But the numbers show that he's nothng special in the postseason.

If the Yankees lose this series (and it don't look great, but it is only 4 runs, so I'm not throwing in the towel quite yet), I hope how well the Tigers have played doesn't get lost in all of the anti-Yankee schadenfreude...
They have really impressed me the past 3 games...
