Jesus Luzardo had a really nice start with 12 Ks in only 5 innings.

Are you buying or selling? Is this the year he puts it together (and hopefully stays healthy)?

The talent profile has always been there, so I think buying when you "see it" starting to come together is probably the wise move. That was such a bizarre trade. A's basically gave him away and signaled it was "over" ... now he's seemingly a brand new man in Miami after one offseason.

I'm a believer. Had him forever in Serious Biz and I was just about out of hope when the trade happened. Marlins are great at developing young arms, and he's always had the talent.

The A's traded him for a couple months of Starling Marte but the Mariners got hot and the Oaklands didn't.  Those kind of rental trades look worse in retrospect when the team misses the post-season.

Marte was pretty great for Miami, Oakland and fantasy teams last year.

Oh, you're right. It was an "old school" trade in the sense that they gave up young, projectable and controllable starting pitching for a two-month rental on Marte for a playoff run.

"Gave him away" was probably the wrong way to put it, but I don't think they include him in that trade-- playoff push or not-- if they thought they could fix his issues internally.

At any rate, Eno Sarris said his "Stuff+" rating on Luzardo was 112 for that first start. Sounds like he around 95 in that measure last year.
