Okay I was wrong about Black Lives Matter (1 Viewer)

Fair enough. I really didn't want to debate it too hotly, and I can see what you're saying. I'm no BLM sympathizer and think they're partly responsible for the summer rioting and looting, a position many in the middle and left (especially the media) are loath to address. I think there were both bad actors within the movement and within their leadership that not only condoned but supported the looting and rioting. There were too many things filtering out of the movement to come to any different, if painful, conclusion.

But I also think that Trump incited a riot, too. I'm pretty attuned to words and context, and I think both entities fail the "totally peaceful" test when it comes down to it. I should also, in full disclosure, say I think Trump's plan and incitement in December and January was much worse and more deliberate than bad actors within the BLM movement and leadership taking part or being responsible for the looting and the rioting over the summer, so there's that to consider, and I know you don't take that position, so it's likely not a fruitful argument for us to have. You've made your case in other threads and I would respond similarly to other people that disagree with you. Which is cool. Different people can hold differing opinions on things. I just sort of want to go on the FFA record (if there is one) as believing that Trump was indeed guilty of that misfeasance.
That is fine.  For me it is just too much of a judgement call on what constitutes incitement.  In this political environment the determinant factor is simply who is in charge.  I see a bunch of overly judgemental hypocrits on both sides.

Well Tim that shows the real difference between you and I.  You are incapable of thinking someone is NOT reliant on the media like you are.   And that was my earlier gripe...People, such as yourself, are so dependent on the media to tell you how to think and what to think that you lose the ability to think on your own.

The media knows this, and they manipulate you terribly.
Kind of funny that was posted a couple of days before the guy that had a mass following proudly proclaiming to be "ditto heads" dies.  Now we can argue how unquestioning those that embraced the label really were, but that is not really point.  Nor am I putting you into this bucket.

Ditto signifies being in agreement.  I don't think either side is all that manipulated but instead share similar values and reach similar conclusions.  What does create problems is lack of exposure and understanding what the other side believes.  And IMHO, the left is far more likely to shutout/censure differing thoughts and dehumanize.

Well, that was certainly a post.

Ditto head is (or at least was) a derogatory term that meant  unquestioning, mindless supporter of an idea or person.  Whether or not Rush's "ditto heads" really met that definition is not an argument I want to pretend to be able to meaningfully participate since I believe that you are correct in how the users meant to use the term.   They took a term that meant one thing and used it as a label for themselves in a similar but different manner.  Kind of like what Bernie did.

ETA:  But I just found it funny that " are so dependent on the media to tell you how to think and what to think that you lose the ability to think on your own" two days before the king of  at least trying to tell you how to think died.

The bottom line is nobody can control what others do at protests, rallies, whatever.  Can a BLM protest or rally end up in a riot, looting and violence?  Yes,  Can a Trump rally or protest end up in violence?  Yes.    Can a pro or aniti abortion rally end up in violence.  Yes.  Any gathering can into a mob type situation fast.  Portland was calm at first then all of sudden all breaks loose and the next thing you know people who were there peaceful are smashing windows and throwing bottles at police.   Mob mentality without fear of getting caught takes over.
funny ...

pro-gun rallies don't end in looting

pro-life rallies don't end in burning cars and buildings

maybe its the quality of the people at the rallies ?
