Old songs (> 30 years old) you've rediscovered (1 Viewer)

I recently moved and discovered an old box of cassette tapes that i made when I was in high school (graduated '81). One of them was labelled "Southern Rock." Total awesome flashback. I only wish my commute was longer so that I could get more songs in before getting to work. Two standouts for me:

Blackfoot "Highway Song" featuring one of my favorite guitar solos ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkGU6IDBOZQ%C2

And..... Atlanta Rhythm Section "Imaginary Lover" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHimj-crMrA%C2

Don't like either band much but love both these tunes:

Styx- Miss America

Kinks- Catch Me Now I'm Falling

I can't believe that this year is the 30th Anniversary of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I8mWG6HlmU&safe=active

My god, I'm getting old.
And last week was the 30th anniversary recording of We Are The World.Thirty years later, there is still no rational explanation as to why Dan Aykroyd was in the chorus.
Elwood Blues is the best I got for an explanation.
I may be 1,000 miles off base on this but, for some reason, I thought Dan was either friends with or shared the same manager as Lionel Richie and Kenny Rogers

Makes sense. Song would have been nothing without Kenny Rogers and Lionel Richie. Sacrifices had to be made.

To the point of the thread...... I'm not a big Kinks fan, but I love "Til The End Of The Day". It's one of their early records and gets lost behind "You Really Got Me" and "All Day And All Of The Night".

Well, Richie co-wrote it and the manager (Ken Kragen?) was one of the prime movers behind getting the recording together.

He was still on a mission from God.

Best I could find:

  • Dan Aykroyd was in the chorus. He was a singer in the fictional band The Blues Brothers, but was invited to represent the movie industry.
    Code:
On the VH1 "I Love The 80's" special, Lionel Ritchie joked about Dan Aykroyd being in the chorus: "We needed Dan's voice".

Just heard this song yesterday on the Sirius XM 1st Wave. Pretty sure I haven't heard it in 30 years and totally forgot it existed.

King - Love & Pride
whoa.... nice one.

creepy trivia- I looked exactly like that guy back then. the face resemblance is uncanny, even the hair cut... the whole thing.
Kudos for being able to pull off that cockatoo haircut. My hair would never grow that long.

it never got quite that long, but hell- I played soccer and was in a band... it pretty much went with the rulebooks for those two things.

I remember seeing April Wine as the backup band to Styx. The crowd loved them!
It may have been mentioned up thread or elsewhere, but that studio (Le Studio in Quebec) in the April Wine video is the same one Rush recorded their videos for "Tom Sawyer", "Limelight" and "Vital Signs" (probably the whole Moving Pictures album). They are also all there on YouTube.
