ON THE CLOCK - With the #1 Overall Pick, Cleveland Selects... (1 Viewer)

What you thinking?

I see 3 distinct possibilities...

1 - Browns grade 2-3 QBs as even, and select Saquon Barkley #1 overall, then take best QB available (unlikely, but possible)

2 - Trade down, take best QB at 4

3 - Take their franchise QB at #1

.... I'm going to assume the Browns go QB at #1, and Select 2018 National Champion and Heisman winner, Baker Mayfield

They'll talk themselves into a non-Rosen QB since he's outspoken about not wanting to play there. Or deal the pick to the Giants.

Won't matter until they ditch Hue. What an asinine move to be applauded for your GM hire and then force him to retain a trash HC who throws his team under the bus every week, plays the victim, and can't scheme his way into a win in 31/32 games despite some intriguing young talent and the odds being on his side.

They got to dump Hue. I've never seen a guy handle a rookie QB worse than he did with Kizer. I don't know how you can tell any future QB to believe in Hue at this point.

If Hue somehow stays, I think they'll end up with Lamar Jackson.

I don’t see a scenario the browns don’t go QB. I just hope they hit this time. I feel bad for em

I'd throw 28 Mil/Year at Cousins and draft talent.
If I'm cousins there's almost no way I sign with Cleveland.

They have receiving talent. Gordon, Coleman and njoku have potential to be great, they could draft Barkley and improve their line. On paper they look great. But nope. I'd stay the hell away.

I’ll send you $50 if they take Mayfield number one.

Goff? Kizer showed flashes at least. Made some really nice deep throws all season (that one to Gordon today was gorgeous). Goff looked entirely incompetent.

If I’m the Browns, I want to get both Barkley and a franchise QB. At 1.03, Indy could snipe Barkley but probably won’t go after a QB. Lock up Barkley at 1.01, let Rosen go to NYG like he wants to, and take Mayfield or Jackson at 4.

I' gonna say they make the "right" move on Rosen at 1 and he ends up a complete bust. Not because he sucks , just because the browns drafted him.

it's a qb at 1. not sure who at this point but they can't afford to d$%^ around with trading down.

Sure. And the head coach was fired.

It's amazing watching the browns continue to make mistakes and have bad luck while the 49ers, arguably in a worse (or equal) position just a year ago, suddenly look like they could contend.

The quick turnarounds by the Rams and it appears the 49ers sure make it look like firing the entire browns organization would be the right call.

Sign a vet QB.  Take Barkley at 1.   Take BPA at 4.  Fire Hue.   Bring in real HC to develop Kizer and QB drafted in second round.

I think I'm actually on board with this idea.

I really don't think they get cousins. Possibly if they hire a coach he likes but he's going to have better options, like Denver or staying in place.

Trade a conditional 3rd(?) For Alex Smith?

Tyrod Taylor seems like an option.

But I'm pretty sure I'd look to sign Sam, Case or Teddy.  Bradford seems most likely to be available at a reasonable cost.

So sign Sam, attempt to develop Kizer, and like I wrote earlier, draft Barkley and Fitzpatrick. Probably after trading back a bit.

I'd sign Bradford and draft Mason Rudolph in the second. They could grab Fitzpatrick and Barkley and be well on their way. First they have to get a real coach.

Taking Baker Mayfield would be almost the only way they could screw this up and continue to doom their franchise, so that's probably what they'll do.

I do hope he says something about, "wrecking this league," first.

Even they aren’t inept enough to take Mayfield with a top four pick.

I think he woll be good eventually but going to the browns would destroy him
He shouldnt be turning pro this year. End of story.

Ive said it countless times, last season he looked very good. Had a LOT to clean up, and expected him to.

He didnt. he regressed. Which is beyond worrying for me. I dont like it, and I dont want my team spending a high pick on him, either.

Not this year, anyways.

Funny thing, in a way, that's almost exactly how many of us (me included) described Kizer. Except for Kizer staying in college wasn't an option (iirc)

I like #2 if Darnold stays in school. Not much chance anyone jumps ahead of #4 pick to grab Mayfield but it makes Rosen more valuable.

Problem for the Browns.....

Top Ten:

Browns

Giants

Colts - Luck

Browns

Bucs - Winston

Broncos

Jets

Niners - Garopopolo

Bears - Trubinksy

Bengals - Dalton?

5 of the spots need a QB in the top ten.....two in the top four are owned by the Browns....so they can't even really leverage two teams picking 2/3/4 against each other to trade for the number one.  To me...moving out of the top ten (say maybe ARI at 13) is counterproductive.  Bengals MAYBE move up.........but I doubt that. Giants might be in love with a QB and would pay something to move up to maybe thwart DEN or NYJ from sneaking in.

With 4 (potential) top ten QBS....they have to get one and then go BPA with the other.

I'm all for Cousins. Been wanting that for months, but for the purposes of this thread, kept it draft related.

Cousins + Barkley at 1.

Ooo man. Yes, yes, yes.

The Browns hava many needs.

RB does not appear to be one of them.

FWIW I don’t think Cousins will want to play in CLE.

But if he does, the Browns should be looking at someone other than RB.

In which case they could trade down a few spots since Barkley isn’t expected to go 1.01

The cynical part of me wonders if it even matters who they draft at this point. But then I see the Niners go from 1-10 to 5-0 with the right QB, so maybe they can turn it around.

A veteran NFL scout told MMQB's Peter King there is "no way" the Browns will pass on Wyoming QB Josh Allen at the No. 1 overall pick.

Per King, this scout was "one of the first to trumpet Carson Wentz" as a high first-round pick coming out of North Dakota State. "There is no way Cleveland, at No. 1, will pass on Josh Allen," the scout insisted. "This is Wentz reincarnated. Allen is a perfect (GM John) Dorsey quarterback. Just watch." Dorsey, of course, is the Browns' new general manager and will over see the team's 2018 draft. Dorsey recently spoke of Chase Daniel and Russell Wilson in a similar light, so we certainly can't rule out him drawing a comparison between Allen and Wentz.
