On train from Florence to Venice right now...fielding questions (1 Viewer)

Nice! Going there in December and making that exact run, although looks like in the opposite direction. Total length of train trip is only 2 hours?

Yes, it is a high speed train, with only 1 brief stop in Bolgna. 63 euro for each first class ticket. Second class is 41.

We did 4 nights in Paris, 5 nights in Florence, 3 coming up in Venice and 1 more in Paris before we fly back.

For some reason, my GPS isn't picking up the speed of the train, but the Internet tells me the train tops off at 155 MPH although the line can go up to 190.

I was on a train in Japan that went 170 and a train in China that went almost 200 MPH.

Favorite site in Florence?
Tons of hot women from all over running around.

David at The Academia blew me away. It is amazing. My wife loved seeing The Birth of Venus most of all.

Renaissance art does get a little old for me, but I love the architecture.

would do you drive at all over there? how is traffic, in general?
I wouldn't drive in Florence. It's a walkers city. Streets are narrow, winding, and confusing. The locals if they drive, have scooters, small Fiats or maybe smart cars.

You could rent a car if you wanted to go out to the countryside, although we didn't.

For some reason I could see myself riding a 170 MPH train in Japan but not a 200 MPH train in China.

Curious to hear afterwards if you did it all over again would you spend 3 days of your trip in Venice..
Good question! I had a bit of a love/hate thing with Venice. It is incredibly beautiful, but very touristy. My wife and I joked that it felt like Epcot had expanded their Venice section, and Disney ran the city. I don't really mind touristy places, we travel somewhat frequently, but I don't really feel a need to be off the beaten path. However, Venice took touristy to another level.

Venice was on the bucket list, so I'm glad we went. Being 3 days at the end of a long trip was good amount of time. I wouldn't want to do longer.

FWIW, I didn't expect to like the Gondola ride as much as I did. That was fun!

OTOH, I don't see myself returning to Venice. I could easily see myself going back to Florence and we will definitely go back to Paris.

The bullet trains in Asia are also extremely quiet and smooth.

I also had to take a commuter train in Japan and it is super quiet. You barely hear the tracks and no one inside the train spoke. The trains were also remarkably clean.

Jealous. Congrats on the 10th! What cities have you seen? Preferences?
Parisian women are thin and dress really well. they know how to put together an outfit and look good.

Women in Florence were incredibly hot. They were young, tan, and dressed sexy. It didn't matter if they were local or visiting, so many beautiful girls. What a great city to be a single guy in. Great restaurants, bars, and places to gather.

Venice was a mixture of everyone, plenty of hot, plenty of not.

Thanks, Saints! My favorite cities to visit are Paris and New York. Italy is my favorite country to visit and IMO has the best food and wine for my taste.

We've been to Thailand, Japan, China, Turkey, Egypt, England, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Israel, Greece, France, Canada, Mexico, and several Caribbean Islands. More to come, we knock them off as we can. We try to mix in domestic travel too, so we add as we can. There are too many places on our list and only so much vacation time...

I didn't like Venice at all. Impossible to navigate your way around the city. Nothing but narrow alleys that may or may not dead end into the water. I guess that can be charming but this was at the end of our two week Italy trip and I wasn't feeling it.

Congrats on your tenth. Sounds like a great trip. Have you been to Rome before or are you saving that? I would really like to go to Tuscany, just seems so laid back.
