One Baseball MOMENT you'd go back to see (1 Viewer)

Dr. Detroit has a cool thread cooking about players you would go back to see but as I really thought of that, I thought of individual moments in trying to figure things out. I guess I'm looking at lore in the pre-highlight era of things that may or may not have happened.

Number one.... Did Babe call his shot?

Honorable mentions:

Josh Gibson hitting a home run OUT of Yankee Stadium allegedly

Mantle Hitting the Yankee Stadium facade

Ruth getting thrown out stealing to end game 7 of the 1926 World Series

Merkle's boner

The 1919 series isn't a single moment but it would be fascinating to watch with some historical perspective

I'd like to go back and watch Game 1 of the 1919 World Series and see Eddie Cicotte hit the first batter.

Others:

- Booby Thompson

- Bucky ####### Dent

- Gibson v Eck

- Reggie hit the transformer on top of Tigers Stadium

- Don Larson's World Series Perfect Game

- Billy Sianas being asked to leave Wrigley Field during the 1945 World Series

Ruth getting thrown out stealing to end game 7 of the 1926 World Series

Merkle's boner

I was dillydallying with my 'other moments' list when you posted it, but that was obviously the first thing I thought of. Great call

The game when Paige walked 3 straight players to pitch to Gibson.
I never heard this legend, do you have any more on it?The Satchel moment I've heard and would love to see is when he instructed his fielders to either sit down or leave the field and he strikes out a batter or the side or something to that effect. Johnny Vander Meer's second game would have been cool, as would be Larsen's world series perfect game. And of course, Thompson's homer is a given.

The game when Paige walked 3 straight players to pitch to Gibson.
Never heard of this one. I think this thread is going to introduce me to a lot of baseball moments.
My bad. The legend is that there was one on and Paige had a one run lead. He walked the bases loaded to pitch to Gibson and struck him out three pitches.
Paige's legend was further enhanced by his colorful and flamboyant nature, which caused him to become the subject of often-repeated folklore. Stories surfaced about the times he instructed his outfielders to sit behind him in the infield while he proceeded to strike out the side with the tying run on base. Paige also enjoyed facing the opposing team's best hitter when the game was on the line. On one occasion, he intentionally walked Howard Easterling and Buck Leonard to load the bases so he could pitch to Josh Gibson. Paige then struck out black baseball's most dangerous hitter on three pitches. In another instance, Paige walked a batter, called over to him as he stood on first base, "There you is, and there you is going to stay," then proceeded to strike out the next three batters.

Will have to think about this, but the first thought that came to mind is Mays' catch.
That's a good one. It's always exciting to see an OF run down a long drive but the circumstances (World Series, Polo Grounds CF, young Mays) put this one right up there.I'd like to see the final inning of the 69 Mets' clinching game--the two runs in the bottom of the 8th and Koosman shutting down the O's in the top of the 9th.

1934 All-Star game in the Polo Grounds.

Carl Hubbell strikes out, in succession: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons and Joe Cronin.

Hall of Famers, all.

The first thing that came to mind for me was the 1919 World Series also.

Jimmie Foxx hitting one in the left field 3rd deck of Yankee Stadium

The game where Shoeless Joe got his nickname

Wow. I can only imagine the field day the media would have if a player pulled that today.

I am not sure of the specifics of that game but a lot of negro league baseball was barnstorming. They entertained as much as competed so the ethics of baseball didn't really apply.

Carlton Fisk's homerun

Nolan Ryan beating the #### out of Robin Ventura

Dock Ellis pitching while tripping on acid

Actually being in the crowd for any of Jackie robinsons first games, home and/or road, would actually bs fascinating to see if the crowds were against him or a few chuckleheads
