Footballguy
- tied for 6th in their own conference (out of 9 teams)

- last team selected for postseason play (64 teams selected)

- not ranked in the top-25 in any of the polls

Which brings us to........

Saturday 6/23: Oregon State 11, North Carolina 4

Sunday 6/24: Oregon State 9, North Carolina 3

Take that, warm-weather baseball powerhouses!!! There's a new dynasty in town, and they are the Oregon State Beavers!!

College World Series Champions. First repeat champs in 10 years.

i don't get the 'almost didn't make it' schtick. yeah, their conference record was horrible, but their W/L record on the year was almost the same as 2006 and they are the defending champs. These guys didn't get a 3 seed by accident.

Go beavers. Who is on the bump today? I might bet this.

Watched my beloved Wichita State Shockers win our regional last night. Thanks to Texas losing we get to host a super regional against UC Irvine next saturday. Best of three to go to Omaha.

Pretty short Roady from Wichita. Anybody ever been to the college world series. Tough to pick up tickets?

A 3 seed in college baseball is pretty awful. 64 teams make the tournament, a 3 seed puts them in the 33-48 range.edit: an at-large team with a 3 seed probably was one of the last teams in. think a 12 seed in the hoops tourney.

Don't get too excited.

Even if they win today, they are going to get SMOKED by MI next weekend.
Who?Oh, and don't you think this little team from Corvallis heard this refrain a few times last year? Who's got the ring?

Score. Board.

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Oregon State’s only hit of the game drove in the only run of the game as the 25th-ranked Beavers beat Michigan 1-0 in NCAA Super Regional baseball Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. Joey Wong’s two-out single through the left side scored pinch-runner Braden Wells from second base as OSU (43-18) captured the opening game of the best-of-three series.

[Michigan's Zach] Putnam, a sophomore righthander, was perfect for 5 1/3 innings and still had the no-hitter going through 8 1/3 innings; he finished by allowing just the one hit and three walks while striking out eight.

How 'bout that! Breaking up a no-hitter in the 9th?! That's gotta be a sign!

I'm not even a Duck. I went to college in Mississippi. I've just had season tickets to the Ducks since 2000 because I love football.I root for OSU too.

Much funner if the Gamecocks are involved.

That was an absolutely brutal thing to watch. It would have been different if the kid had a monster shot on a mistake etc, but the kid at the plate got the end of the bat on the ball after being completely fooled on a relatively obvious pitch situation and shot it between the SS and 3B. Putnam completely dominated that game and got the L to show for it. I felt for the kid.On a side note....what is up with that field where half of it is turf and the other half is grass

Not to mention the noodle-armed outfielder who couldn't get the ball from shallow left to home plate in time. That was the weakest throw to the plate that I've ever seen.

:bye: I couldn't agree more. Looked like Barry Bonds out there. However, when it got to the infield it just died. That kid threw the ball from 20-30 feet from where the SS plays.....sad.

Oregon State 8, Michigan 2

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) -- Oregon State shortstop Darwin Barney can spot the very pitch in a game that signals pitcher Mike Stutes is on.

He saw it early during Monday's game, when the defending national champion Beavers eliminated Michigan 8-2 to earn their third straight trip to the College World Series.

"I believe I looked over at Joey (Wong) and said, `Uh-oh, they're in trouble,'" Barney said when he saw the curveball.

Stutes allowed two runs on three hits over eight strong innings at the NCAA Corvallis super regional.

Barney was 3-for-5 with three RBIs for the Beavers (44-18), who will face Cal State Fullerton in their opening game of the College World Series on Saturday.

It is Oregon State's third straight trip to Omaha. Last season they won six elimination games en route to the title.

That relay throw to the plate last night in the 7th was a great play. Has a lower seed/ranked team ever won the NCAA before?
