Otis fad diet thread — yoga, fasting, and kevzilla walking on🚶‍♂️ (1 Viewer)

Adriene Day 15 was a 20-minute session called "Reset" that I already remember nothing about, despite having done it yesterday.

Today's Day 16, "Anchor," started with a mantra!  :X   Outside of that, a really fun practice IMO with a decent amount of challenge (Dancer pose at the end).  There was a bit where we were in plank and then walked our hands back to a forward fold, then back and forth between plank and forward fold.  That was fun, and I wish it had gone on longer.

I had a bad week weight-wise after going off the rails and making little attempt to get back on for the rest of the week.  Back to the grind today.

Had a long weekend, 'Thanks MLK!' and it was a mixed bag.  Did something walking or yoga everyday, still no booze, but food choices were not always the best.  Oh well.  Still also building up the strength/endruance from being sick.  Still feeling better each day, so that's positive.

Already did a 40-min down dog yoga session today.  It was a bit rough, but I got through it.  Will walk the dog later and try to make decent food choices.

Keep up the good work!

Doing a Biggest Loser challenge with some of my buddies and I dont understand how they lose so much weight. One lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks. Another lost 9 in 2 weeks but is 50 lbs lighter than me. I was able to lose 7 in 2 weeks and have been extremely strict and done the Peloton most days. I just dont get it.

The challenge goes until the beginning of May so kind of hope they burn out and Im the tortoise.

Was the initial weigh in on the honor system?  Were they wearing full hiking packs?

Were you already trying to lose weight before you began the challenge? You might have cheated yourself out of that initial week plunge.

Hold my beer.

Just spoke with the GI doctor, and he refused to pull me off of the clear liquid diet saying that it is the surgeon’s call. Once I get the green light I need to do a “6 food elimination diet” for at least a month, which means giving up wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, nuts and seafood.

Before talking to the doctor my game plan was to go pescatarian since chicken, pork and beef create the most problems for me, but it sounds like I’ll be back doing the whole food plant based diet for a while.

Down another 4 pounds for a total of 40.

Damn, Dickies. Also, forgive me for being minor-key jealous.

Another shortcut that definitely isn't for everybody is cold. I lost 11 pounds in a week last Feb. in the ice storm/grid cluster. That was suboptimal, but to the extent that you can stand to be be cold this winter, it can be a force multiplier.

Just finished Day 12. We started a few days behind.

I can finally sit comfortably cross legged without slouching. And Day 12 was a #####. She had attitude as well.

Ah yes, had to go back a page, but I see that's the one I did while drunk.  :lmao:   So I don't remember the attitude.

Day 13 is one I really liked a lot.  Wonder what you'll think.

Have you enjoyed any of these?  Anything you might go back to again, or just trudging through the 30 days to be done with it?

I think "trudging through" is a perfect description.

A couple days ago, my wife got distracted when we were supposed to do it and said "just start it without me". I just laughed.

Checking in. Just finished Peleton ride and had 2 good walks with my lab. Also core work, push-ups and stretching. Shoulder area is hurting - need to figure out what’s causing pain with motion. Eating really well. No slip ups. Did drink over the weekend. Mostly vodka/soda but wine was calling me last night. Had 2 glasses. Will be booze free rest of week. Good news is it hasn’t led to bad food choices. Just would rather limit it further. Haven’t weighed in in a few days but clothes feel looser and look better in mirror. Good signs. Onward we go

This series is my favorite of hers that I've done, even though gianmarco hates it!
I like being dramatic, especially for a joke. It's good stuff. I don't mind it at all but it's not something I would actively seek out on my own. I still don't think I'd ever go to a real yoga class. But I also wouldn't have even tried it without the recs here for it, especially from you.

I've done martial arts (traditional karate) and I find many similarities in terms of body movements and how good it is for you but I would choose karate training again without hesitation as I always really enjoyed it.

I've never done karate, nor can I type the word without hearing in my head "Kah-rah-TAY."  Don't think I'd go to a real yoga class due to embarrassment, but I'd think most guys might wish to for the yoga pants.

It's cool that you're doing it with the Mrs, even if it's not your jam.

Day 17 of Adriene's Move program was called "Snuggle."

Anyone else still doing the program?  @bostonfred @gianmarco?  I don't think RAIDERS started it...
I got to day 5 and totally wussed out on the six pack abs day. I somehow decided not doing it was better than doing it half assed.  Ran tonight and getting ready for bed now but I'll try to get back to it tomorrow. Stayed under calories today and hit my numbers, anyways.

I could be down to give 30 days of yoga a try once I’m able to eat again. I’ve given the 30 days 2 feeble attempts, but haven’t managed to complete the entire 30 days. I’m convinced it would be a great thing for me to do more often because I’m the absolute least flexible person on earth.

I was considering doing this same program again starting Feb. 1, but I could put it off until you are ready.  I'm enjoying it more than my random stabs at her practices, and I'd be interested to see whether my performance is improved the second time around.  Keep it in mind if you're interested!

a real yoga class is awesome.  there are men and women in yoga pants!

imagine the best flow class you've ever done.  with almost zero chatting.  the only real talking, is simply to describe the next move.  add in a heated room.  pretty f'ing great..

Despite not tracking food at all, I'm down two pounds this year so far.  Probably just from lack of booze.  A few better food choices and that would probably be a better number.  Slow and steady.

Just did a yin yoga session, 40-min with my down dog app.  I'm really enjoying yin yoga.  It helps that since I've been practicing yoga for close to a year I can hold deeper poses now, like Janu Sirasasna Variation (one leg bent with heel near butt, other leg straight, fold down over long leg) while grabbing the foot in poses like that.  Don't know if I will walk the dog today, it's currently trying to snow w/ a 20mph wind.  Will eat well today.

Keep up the good work!

Krista, you should go give a martial arts class a try.  Seriously.  Most places will let you try a class or two for free.  I will likely be in the minority and there's certainly some bias, but I would recommend looking for a traditional karate class.

So krista posts about Snuggle last night, but I don't see it until this morning. A couple of hours later I refresh my YouTube feed on another Chrome tab, and what do you suppose is there?

:oldunsure:

19 days in, 12 pounds down. I've put in 50 miles of walking, trying to hit a 5k every day. Still haven't drank at home, so that cuts things down. Onward!

Wife does yoga with Adriene, I told her what you all say about her, she got mad. She loves the talking, but has noticed that her "studio" has changed.

A young woman entered the tiny, 2nd-floor gym just as I approached. Not wanting to appear as an Insta-Perv, I decided to just make a couple of slow laps around the entire complex instead. It's also a lovely day, and that's over tonight. Took about the same amount of time, didn't injure anything.

I think I would enjoy it.  I also think there's a near-zero chance I ever do it.

Your wife is obviously not a true Adriene fan.*  Back in the fall she referenced that she was in the PNW working on a new series, which I assume is this one.  That's when her mom had a stroke and she had to return to Texas, and Benji returned way later.  Not sure if she had already finished it or she went back, but it seems this is a place she was using only for this series and then will be back to her usual.

She needs a Chatter and a No-Chatter version.

*Kidding.

I like Adriene chatter when it's "together we meet... in downward facing dog" or other extended directions that you begin to recognize after you do a bunch of these.  I like the beach ball thing and all the modifications so i can do this with someone at a very different skill level and we both get something out of it.  I like knowing her cadence a little bit because when she has you do a twist and says reach reach reach reach she's not saying it a 5th time,  she's just going to say and release.

I don't mind the occasional oh look a bird. But it feels like she forces it now.  I don't mind her affirmations especially when we're either resting, or in a position we're supposed to hold for a while.  But when I'm doing side planks and she starts a story i want to shut the thing off. I like her dog and her genuine interactions with him. In an early video he just walked up and licked her face. But you don't need to force it.

One of my favorite Adriene moments was when she was explaining a shape and how you shouldn't do i love you a bushel and a peck and I was totally doing i love you a bushel and a peck and I was so glad i was at home at that moment.  But it was so descriptive of the exact mistake i was making.  Give me all of that chatter.  And even some of that wind down, give your belly a little pet as you absorb the nutrients of this session. She obviously genuinely cares about her irl students and it carries over to her virtual students.

First time this year that I stepped on the scale and it was higher than the beginning of the week. I know there are daily fluctuations and they all say not to weigh yourself every day, but I still hate it.

It did make me look back at my food log and guess what could have caused it (soy sauce on sushi probably). It also drove me to be extra conscious about my choices today and get that weight down.

Got a surprise call from one of the doctors that was on the surgery team and she told me I can advance to a liquid diet as opposed to a "clear liquid diet".  Now at least pureed soups and smoothies are on the table.... which I immediately made for myself.

Ran.  Stayed under maintenance.  Got my protein and fiber.  Not sticking to 1000 calories under and haven't made time for yoga in a week but at least I'm vaguely going in the right direction.

Adriene day 18 was 30 minutes called "Savor."  Easy stuff all the way, but kinda fun anyway.

I used to be a regular ITT and was pretty fit from my early 30's to my late 40's.  Regularly working out cardio and lifting.  Staying between 210 - 225 (anything over 225 and I'm starting to get fat).  The last 4 years though I got lazy, developed some bad habits of boozing too much and eating non-stop when I did, I ballooned all the way up to 265.  Not crazy but way way too heavy for me.  Anyway, I've had a ton of medical issues the last year and the results were that I lost 45 pounds and now I can pretty much eat whatever I want and stay the same weight.  Now the eating whatever I want thing carries it's own host of problems so don't think that's like the greatest thing ever.

Anyway, I'm 8 months out from my final surgery and I started lifting again 5 weeks ago.  Got sick of looking skinny fat with no shirt on and wanted to rebuild some semblance of muscle.  Been running a 4x/week push-pull routine and mixing in some light cardio and long walks.  It feels great to feel like I'm back in the groove and I will be using this thread to keep myself accountable (assuming I can stay unbanned for a decent amount of time).

Good luck everyone and keep at it!

Ate decently yesterday, but didn't get to walk the dog.  Just too cold/windy, I can handle one or the other but the combination of freezing temps and 20mph winds is beyond my level of dedication.

Did a 40-min down dog full practice yoga session this morning.  I've been struggling with balance poses since I was sick last week, so of course this session had tons of balance poses.  I did my best.  May get on the treadmill this afternoon, but that will really piss off my dog.  Will eat well today.

Keep up the good work!

I was happy to step on the scale and see that my deviation yesterday was just a short lived issue.  I was down from my Monday weight and will just keep going with the same plan.

Stayed below my calorie limit yesterday and spent 55 minutes on the Peloton.

checked this out ...thinking I might try this out ...MIGHT

Been riding 9-12 miles every day this week.

Even though I can only have puréed foods, I’m feeling super bloated and full on just a morning smoothie and late afternoon bowl of split pea soup.  Maybe my stomach has shrunk, because I’ve only consumed about 700 calories on the day

Adriene Day 19 was 20 minutes of “Explore.”  Started slowly but then got fast and good.  One of my favorites from the series, partly due to…
