Over 40 monkeys escape from research lab and are on the loose in South Carolina (1 Viewer)

Any updates?
24 more renegade monkeys recaptured.

"Twenty-four monkeys were captured on Sunday, a day after another of the 43 escaped monkeys was recovered. A “sizeable group” remains active along the compound’s fence line and bedded down in the trees for the night, police in Yemassee, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of Savannah, Georgia, said in a statement. Veterinarians have been examining the animals and initial reports indicate they are all in good health, police said."

So we caught the dumb ones. It's the ones we really have to worry about that are on the run. Ha ha

You've been money in this thread.

You would have at least 10 laugh emoji's from me had they been available.

Now it's not only monkeys invading the low country, we have man-o-war on the beaches. Run for your life . :scream:
What's next ? :shark:

Just a reminder to people making jokes that monkeys pose a serious threat to humans. Wouldn't take em long to take over if they started to organize and take it seriously.
I have prepared accordingly in the upstate of SC. Should an offensive be mounted and move north, my personal war of aggression against the monkey invasion force will be appropriate.
Start hoarding poo, gonna be a lot of flinging going on

Reading this warms my heart. Way to many jokes in this thread. I prefer paramilitary actions. Appreciate you man. Onward.

"Only 11 of the 43 Rhesus macaques that escaped last week now remain outside the Alpha Genesis facility in Yemassee, police said in a statement. Alpha Genesis officials told police that the two monkeys captured Tuesday were eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and appeared to be in good health."

Any updates? Any monkeys killing humans? Any sighting of them clothing themselves and learning to drive? Those are thing that should cause concern..
I don't know how many of you have the Twitch app, but if you do you can see video of an orangutan driving a golf cart. Quite disturbing.
That's my concern. They learn to drive and they become nearly impossible to contain.
“Left turn, Clyde”

Down to 13 monkeys aka "the Sequel"

Authorities have asked locals to refrain from operating drones there "as they can startle the animals and cause further stress."

Is it really the locals flying the drones or the monkeys planning their attack ?
Stay tuned.
That's my concern. If you look at all conflicts in the history of mankind step one is gather information. These monkeys could very well be in step one. If that area all of sudden loses power we really need to act quickly.

Pretty sure all you need to do is publish a limit on monkeys in the local communities and the necks would take care of the problem. It's already deer season so they are in the woods already.

Here's what troubles me, these are test monkeys so ostensibly they aren't making it out of this gig alive anyhow. Sure, some of them might be in a longer term study but they are monkeys, test monkeys to boot, they'll make more. So why are they trying so hard to capture the escapee's instead of just neutralizing them, patching the hole in the fence and moving on? Methinks there is something more to these primates than meets the eye, they're "special" somehow. Monkey super warriors? We just saw a weaponized dead Russian war whale wash up on the beach in Norway. They want these monkeys back just a little too much for my liking.

A local company has printed t-shirts saying " Lab Monkey 5K Freedom Run" and has sold about 400 t-shirts so far. LOL
I love America. I'd print shirts that says "Keep the monkeys away from your daughters"
All of the escaped monkeys were female
We don't judge around here, buddy.
Ha ha. Right. It was mentioned above that life finds a way. I actually forgot all were female, but my ego is so large I'm standing by my comment. Ha ha

This is why we need the laughing emoji.

DUDE!!!!! Don't say you weren't warned. I'm going to go buy more ammo right now.

The escape, which occurred on Wednesday, Nov. 6, is the "latest in a long list of violations from this USDA and NIH-funded laboratory," said Nancy Mace, U.S. Rep. for South Carolina's 1st District, in a Tuesday statement.

“For years, Alpha Genesis has racked up federal contracts and taxpayer dollars while consistently violating animal welfare laws and exposing the public to dangerous escapes,” Mace said in a letter. “NIH and USDA need to step up and ensure South Carolinians don’t bear the risk of this lab's negligence.”

Approximately 5,000 monkeys bred for biomedical and scientific research are housed at two Alpha Genesis sites across the state.

"Housing over 10,000 primates, including 3,300 on NIH’s controversial Monkey Island, the lab has faced frequent federal citations for unsafe enclosures, poor veterinary care, and preventable animal deaths," Mace wrote. "Yet oversight remains minimal, with recent inspections confirming multiple violations, including escaped primates and fatal neglect."

Alpha Genesis primates, Mace alleges are "subjected to painful and deadly experiments involving dangerous pathogens and invasive procedures."

It has been determined that the enclosure the monkeys escaped from was new and in perfect working order. The employee that accidently left the gate open immediately walked off of the job and has not returned.

In an unrelated escape, about three hours further north, two emus named Thelma and Louise have escaped and are on the loose. Details to follow.

You have to wonder how many bananas it took to pay him off.

Tough read. As a dog owner of 3 and huge animal lover, this just feels sad so to me. Also just reads dark. Monkey Island? Wth.
