3. WHY ON EARTH WOULD ANY FANTASY FAN WANT THE COLLEGE SYSTEM???? Imagine...you're up by 20 points late in the MNF game, but your opponent has his RB in play...in a tie game. 4 OT's later...his RB has added 41 yds, 4 receptions, and 3 TD's...and you lose.
This would be one of the best things about it. Monday night I could be 20 points down and after 4 overtimes I could be a winner.

Slightly favor the NFL system. Which is to say I believe that the NFL system is closer to how it should be for both college and NFL. Exact same system, except that each team is guaranteed to get the ball for at least one drive. You'd see far fewer field goals on that initial OT drive, that's for sure.

From a statistical standpoint alone, the college system would be a nightmare for the NFL. With incentive-laden contracts the way they are, you'd probably find a lot more games ending regulation tied just for the stat-boosting aspect of the new overtime scenario.

The college overtime system already has a "who blinks first" atmosphere, so to that extent why wouldn't we just give each team one down with the ball on the one yard line and make overtime truly resemble penalty kicks at the end of soccer games? The only difference there being that they don't count goals scored on penalty kicks towards your season total.

Strongly favor NFL. For those saying that it is unfair for the team who gets the ball first to go down and win the game with their opponent never seeing the ball in OT, I say, play some defense and you will get the ball. And I am a Broncos fans who saw that happened to them yesterday. Offense, defense and special teams are all part of the game. The college format is very exciting, but it inflates scores and stats way too much.
The college format would ruin fantasy. I mean guys can get huge numbers in the extra sessions. It is a slight advantage in NFL now if you go to OT, but nothing, and I mean nothing like if the format changed. Every league would have to have some type of rule about overtime, and possibly eliminate it from scoring all together. This would cause the website to change their format, etc. It would be a mess. I love the college format for college football, but for NFL, keep it the way it is. Not to mention, this would mess with records, imagine what Tom Brady could do with a few more posessions. Oh my!

What percentage of overtime games are won by the team that wins the toss on the opening drive?
Last I heard it was like 61%.
I think that 60% is for the team that won the coin toss.I was looking for percentage of winning the coin toss AND scoring on the 1st drive.
From 1974-2002, the game was concluded in one drive 27.7% of the time, which is probably way lower than whast people would have expected.LINK

The college system is more exciting, that is for sure. I don't really care much one way or the other so I went with slightly favored college. I can see pros and cons for both, so at the end of the day the NFL might as well make it exciting.

Which overtime format do you like best?J
Great Thread... I listened to Ditka today on M & M and I totally agree with him... both teams should be given equal opp to win the game.when the Bears kick the FG in OT; why can't Den then be given the ball... if the Bears D can hold them all 4 downs and keep them out of FG range.. Game Over.
I agree with this. After the first team scores, give the other team a possession to match or beat it. Some of the most exciting football to watch is when a team needs to score on their current possesion or lose the game. The NFL's current system just seems to be a race to get into FG position. It might make teams think twice about trying a 50+ yard FG in OT since it won't end the game.

I would like to see an overtime quarter....play for a length of time....if no one is ahead double over time....

One more vote (the NFL is listening and planning to go with what we decide, right?) for the "first to four points" option that SSOG offered.
