A Forum For Home Leagues? (1 Viewer)

I really miss those old days of the BoTH leagues. Makes me want to rekindle my appetite and get into another league or two if there are openings of leagues migrating over. (FKA cap'n grunge for some of the old timers if you didn't know)
Well I have openings in 2 different leagues if you are really interested let me know.

I sent a twitter message to DMD and he said they tried to do an upgrade and it crashed and they are now in the process of trying to recover it.

Stay tuned.
I may be but I'm kinda picky. I don't have the patience for IDP nor do I have the knowledge or time to devote to devy leagues or complex contract leagues. I like to keep it simple.

Agree. I wouldn't mind starting up again. Been a few years other than 32 Homers that I've played.

I nominate you as commish and to set it all up. Simple redraft with a live online draft somewhere so we can all talk smack.

Thanks in advance. :hifive:
We could possibly do something using Sleeper. Pretty slick easy free interface for redrafts.

Both openings are in non IDP leagues

Also a long term huddler who has played (and plays) with many posting in this thread.

League forums here would be a wonderful new home for the old leagues.

Danke
^^^^^^^this. With Dorey gone what's the draw other than history. If that is corrupted what then?
There will be a small forum over there that I will miss.
We all have this sentiment. Sad really. Bermuda Triangle of lost souls on those seas.

Agreed. No reason to make them private. Honestly, the only downside I see (and this is me being totally selfish) is that some of my competitors/leaguemates would find out about this place. That is, the ones that aren't already here.
I mean…if you are hard core FF and don’t know about FBG you are hard core because of the rock you live under
Interboard Challenge proves all the smart lucky FF players hang out here
Are we talking the one coordinated through the old ffwarroom site years ago?
So many boards have come and gone. It's host at FFSharks now.

I still miss the food and beverage forum
It’s there, just not a lot of activity

Cart before the horse... the Huddle Forums are back up.
We all knew they'd be back it was clearly just a maintenance issue. It's not just about Huddle leagues, this would be a tremendous asset for a ton of private leagues. It's a big world that no longer revolves around one site.

Right. I should’ve said I miss when it was really active. So much good stuff in there over the years

With respect, it’s better that we talk about this now. Many are concerned about the future of The Huddle and in particular the message boards. This does make the situation less of an emergency. I still think this is worth considering, for may reasons.
Agreed. I can easily envision a scenario where the new braintrust decides against supporting the forums on an ongoing basis.

Without a champion like DMD or @Joe Bryant that understands how forums contribute to a sense of community and the value that represents, I don't think you can guarantee long-term stability there.

Valid points, guys. So, creating league forums here, as not just a failsafe but inevitably, the new place to go and host our league forums, is a smart idea. This is a win-win for everyone as all the leagues and owners would have a continued safe place to go moving forward and Joe would very likely be adding users.

Thanks GB. Agreed in I see this as possibly a fun thing regardless of what the Huddle does. They've been great for a long time and I expect that to continue.

This would be a new additional thing for here if we're able to do it.

For anyone reading this I have 2 openings still one in DAD and one in LLD.

DAD opening is a playoff team from last year 16 team non IDP league.

LLD is 14 team non IDP league we had 2 openings 1 filled once we get the other we will do a 2 team dispersal this league is also half price year 1.

If anyone has an interest let me know.

Hi everyone. I did a bit of research over at my Huddle (baseball) league forum last night and it appears InVision, the board software, ceased operations on 12/31/24 so exporting leagues is apparently no longer an option. I am not sure how we will deal with retaining our data other than an incredibly laborious copy and paste which we would start from the most recent.
Caveman Nick has already expounded fully on what the huge number of leagues over there need. If anyone is interested, a trip to forums.thehuddle.com illuminates how many leagues have their home there.

Yikes, what a mess. I'm in a good number of leagues that are hosted at The Huddle. Losing the boards there would be devastating. @Joe Bryant - we'd be doing a massive service by allowing those leagues to migrate here if the need arises. Thanks!

All my leagues have their own chat, league message board, or (as with MFL) a very complex set of pages for league bylaws, rules, etc.

All of my leagues currently use GroupMe for more direct realtime chat.

So I’m not sure what benefit it would be. Maybe it’s useful to some folks, I’m not one of them. But that’s fine - there are a lot of forums I don’t visit even here. I’m mostly a mange forearm poster.

The MFL message board sucks. Putting league forums out of the way of other FBG content sounds like a good idea.
HSG - like Snoopy said, the MFL board is absolutely useless, especially for dynasty league purposes. I am in a couple dynasties that use the MFL board and GroupMe/Discord and things get... messy. It's MUCH cleaner to have a board (like this one) where league processes can occur. Trust me, I've been in dynasty leagues hosted at The Huddle for 20 years, it just works.

Right. Which is why I’ve twice mentioned that all of my MFL leagues use GroupMe.

The last thing I want is my dynasty league members seeing me talk about my favorite players or deals I’m tryna put together.

Thanks. I think this idea could be fun but I honestly need to nail down some other things first with site things.

Let us get these things going and then I'll revisit here in a couple of weeks.

But to make sure I understand, why would people use FBG for their league chat when there are so many options like Text, WhatsApp, Groupme, and others? And of course all the platforms have chat.

I'd love to have more folks on the forum, but just not sure why they'd want to do league chat here?

Joe-
A group chat is efficient on one level.

For organizing league operations (discussions, votes, postings bylaws, etc) a forum is much “cleaner”

The biggest loss / change IMO is the slow auction process we use those boards for during the month of April. That’s all done through message board thread, which works better for record keeping, quick reference on what the current bid landscape looks like, how much salary cap is at risk for each team currently, etc.

As with everything I am sure there are other nsystems that work for other people, and each thing those message boards are used for could be handled differently. The leagues just happen to have a known method of operating that works and needs a home :)

Thanks for considering this going forward, Joe!😃
Honestly...the forum offers a "placemarker" for League business, rules discussions, rfa or auction periods with specific timestamps, trade postings and owner dues/accounting. Each league has it's own "page" or subforum. Keeps your other forums free of League chatter, etc.

Doesn't need to be passworded really. We've never had a problem with unsolicited posts from non owners. And it might be informative to others if they peek in from time to time.

We've never really needed a real-time chat function. I think most of us long timers in Fusion, for example, have each other's phone numbers and emails for trade deals...lol.

I echo what has been said above...it's always been a community. A lot of us have met in person over the years. It's much more than an anonymous online league.
More like a dysfunctional family.😂😉 Teasing.
