Owners to Discuss Gameday Roster Expansion

Amongst the rules slated for a vote at league ownership meetings, there is a proposal to increase the game-day active list from 45 to 47 players, plus a third quarterback.
Thoughts on the implications of this?

Would this alter the rules regarding the "emergency" QB?The current 45-player setup has really given a premium to "versatile" players (guys who can play multiple positions like OT and OG, or DE and DT, etc.) but I'm not sure an increase of 2 players is going to change that very much. I do know that it's not very fun having to watch guys play positions they are unfamiliar with because of bad luck (i.e. multiple injuries to the same position in one game).

Really? I enjoy it, as long as I'm not a fan of the snakebit team. Especially when a kicker goes out, and you see the team make decisions like if they want to go for two or have their punter try the extra point. It's not something I'd ever root for, and I like slightly bigger rosters, but it's intriguing.

I have never really been a big fan of having a 53 man roster and only dressing 45. You either have the guys on the roster or not. The only real benefit for a time in not dressing all 53 is when you have someone out with a short term injury. Additional players can give a team more flexibility in terms of not playing starters on special teams, more specialized parts and covering in game injuries. Two more players moves us towards what I think is ideal anyway.

From fantasy football standpoint though if there is not that pre-game announcement of inactives, it will make the "gamemanship" from certain NFL teams more possible and adds to the frustraion of the FF owner.

Yeah, this is where I was coming from. It sucks to watch your team struggle because of fluke injuries. But, if I were watching a game that didn't include "my" team, I agree, it would be intriguing to see that college QB turned WR come in as the emergency QB in the 3rd quarter with his team down by a TD. :lmao:
