Questions of softness aside, I'm surprised by how quickly people, including the head coach, are declaring Jennings superior to McFadden. Is that really the case? I always thought the issue with him was only health, but when he's not hurt, you want him in your lineup, both in real and fake football. So I'm just surprised to see him getting healthy and hear this talk about him just getting a few touches in a backup role.

Does anyone think there's a chance we could be sleeping on him and that we could see a scenario where Jennings "starts" but McFadden tears it up tomorrow against Dallas?

McFadden hasn't been the same since 2011. Everyone thought it was the zone blocking scheme last year so they switched to a power blocking scheme this year which he has played very will in the past. However, it hasn't made a difference, McFadden just doesn't look very good out there anymore.

 
He's been at least RB2/serviceable when he's been able to stay on the field. 14, 19, 14, 10 &amp; 21 FPS when he's had at least 12 carries. Not the same as back in the day, but I'd take that from my RB2.

That's the problem though isn't it. He gets injured way to often and he leaves a lot of games early.

 
With Moreno very iffy I'm going to roll the dice on McFadden today as RB2. He might only get 5 carrries, but with 5 carries against the Cowboys D I'll take my chances he takes one of 'em to the house. They are turrible.

I think he'll get 10+ carries and 2+ receptions. If he breaks one those two numbers will increase.Dal D is horrible so this could be a sneaky week for DMC. Can't trust him but the upside is there today. He could pay off big time for those in need of an RB2. There's been a voice in my head telling me to grab him off the wire and plug him in, but it's hard to do so over the much safer floor Vereen provides (0.5 ppr).

Seriously though, I wouldn't be shocked at all by a huge day today from one or more Raider RBs and I'm not convinced Jennings is tremendously more likely than a healthy DMC to be the top scorer.

I am hurting at RB2 this week. Right now I have McFadden on the bench in favor of either Mathews or Mendenhall (I said I was hurting). I keep having this feeling that McFadden could go off today, but I can't risk the 5 carry for 8 yards game. He needs lots of carries to have a chance to break a few big ones.

I think the key variable is his health. Unfortunately it's an unknown. I would feel better about it if he had practiced fully this week.

 
Thought I was set with Jennings for this week and McFadden coming back makes me think about Ray Rice against PIT again... Screw it, DAL will make both OAK backs startable!

Jets are maybe toughest team to run on in the league. Watch Jennings is out so DMac can give us a nice 12-20 performance.

I was at the game yesterday seated fairly close to behind the Raiders bench and just the way I saw him move around on the sideline looked to me like a guy who was not 100% and not entirely confident in himself. One time he exited the game after a carry he had a slight limp, reached back to touch his hamstring and than started the process of walking it off.

Obviously a very non expert opinion on my part so take it for what it's worth. If any of you have ever tried to workout or exercise after an injury you know what I mean when you don't quite feel right. When after every action you compelled to do a self check on the problematic area to make sure everything is still okay.

All that being said I tend to think the 10 day break should have him pretty close to 100%.

Two last things on DMC:

1. If DMC leaves Oakland as I suspect there are going to be a whole lot of Raiders fans on the jersey market. The amount of DMC jerseys worn by Raiders fans versus other current players was astounding. I don't exaggerate when I say it was like 50 to 1. I saw one Denarius Moore and few Charles Woodson jerseys which people probably had left over. For the most part Raiders fans either wore DMC jersey's or a past great Raider player. What does this mean for fantasy? Absolutely nothing. Just drove home to me how little star appeal the Raiders have on their roster which again means absolutely nothing unless you think from a marketing angle the Raiders would overpay for him,which I don't.

2. DMC will be my most interesting guy to track in FA. A lot of his issues have been his own so playing with a new team is not a certain cure all but when you look at the crappy QB's and supporting cast on the offensive side of the ball he's played his entire NFL career with it's stunningly bad. I can recall his rookie year reading and exchanging e-mails with Raiders beat writer Jerry Mcdonald who said DMC was best RB he'd seen in camp since covering Raiders and he thought he would one day be an 80 catch a season back with the Raiders plans to utilize him in a Marshall Faulk role. I recall last years OC, Greg Olson, stating DMC was he best pass catching RB he'd ever seen. All of this but it's never really translated to high pass catching totals, even if you played with stats and projected a full 16 game season he's never been on pace to crack 60. So what I'm getting at is I would be very excited to see him get a chance to play in a more wide open offense which does a better job of getting RB's the ball in space, especially via the passing game. I would love to see him in a place like Atlanta if they just decided to move on from SJAX.

Very true. He still has 5-6 potentially useful years left. Would be good to see him on a team that can use him with creativity. I think he is a dynasty buy right now. Could pay off huge if he goes to the right place!

Looks nothing of the sort to me and even earlier this year before he got hurt I think he was leading or tied for the league lead in 20+ yard runs.

He's not really a cutter. More of a run bender. He needs holes, and the Raiders don't really open any...

I don't disagree. Plenty of areas one can knock DMC. Durablity, stiff running style and lower body strength are what comes to mind for me as his shortcomings so far, I just don't see anything in his game which looks slow and plodding.

He's a free agent next year. He could land a starting gig somewhere and turn it around, right? RIGHT??!?

Dude is right... In my 20 team dynasty (a league where RBs are looked for anyway a team can get one.) I STILL cant get anyone to buy DMC. My only option is to hold him and hope he has a 2010-type season all over again (1600 total yds and 10 TDs) I would be VERY happy. ####... Id be ok with 1200 and 10 TDs.

Then there's Trent as my RB1. My teams ceiling is unbelievable. I was always told patience was the key. "I guess we will see next year."

Ideally he goes to New Orleans and takes the Pierre Thomas role (and eventually the Sproles role) where he'd be a fantasy monster in PPR leagues. I can also see a number upgrade in Atlanta if they part ways with SJax

If I'm a GM, there's no way I give him a ton of guaranteed money. Where he goes will tell you a lot about his attitude and whether or not he's worth investing in from a fantasy standpoint. If he just takes the biggest upfront paycheck, I'd avoid him like Ebola.

Over the last two seasons, McFadden has rushed 319 times for a pitiful 1,072 yards (3.36 YPC) and scored six touchdowns. He's been injured in every single season of his six-year career and recently lost his starting job to Rashad Jennings. The Raiders will be able to find a cheaper and more reliable backup in free agency or the draft. Meanwhile, McFadden could be forced into a starting role this week with Jennings in the concussion protocol. More on Jennings' status will be known following Wednesday's practice.

Beat writer Steve Corkran answered a question in a live chat by saying, " don't see [GM] Reggie McKenzie even making McFadden an offer." McFadden has missed four games and parts of others this season, posting a meager 3.5 YPC on 103 attempts. He wanted to bet on himself this season and try and land a big deal, but that plan has backfired. McFadden has missed 27 games in six seasons with a multitude of injuries. Look for the Raiders to either try and re-sign Rashad Jennings or go with a young back in the upcoming draft.

McFadden missed Wednesday's practice with an ankle issue, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

McFadden, who had missed three games with a hamstring issue, returned to action in Week 13. His good health was short-lived though, as coach Dennis Allen said Wednesday that the ankle injury McFadden sustained in last Thursday's game "was more than (the Raiders) originally thought." On the plus side, Rashad Jennings was able to practice Wednesday after suffering a concussion in Week 13.


 
He is actually helping us those of us who have byes in Week 14 out. His plan is to let Jennings get beat up by the Jets D, then come back fully healthy to tear it up weeks 15 and 16. Yeah - that's the ticket..

 
I think the positive spin is that DMC is showing his true colors. At least he won't be on the Raiders next year.

No player is this injury prone. He simply wants out.

....and given recent history I'll be the one to pick him up! :ph34r:

Seems with my drafting I've had him frequently--and as long as the cost is cheap--when he's healthy it can put you over the top. Just don't count on it.

If Jennings broke both his legs in week 14, and If McFadden ran for 250 yards and 4 touchdowns, I'd still have a tough time starting him in week 15.
