Green Bay Packers cornerback Ahmad Carroll was arrested Thursday night after an altercation with police outside of a bar in Fayetteville, Ark., according to a report in the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Carroll was in Fayetteville visiting friends when the incident occurred. Carroll played for the University of Arkansas before he was selected in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers.

Carroll's attorney, Sam Hilburn, said his client was charged with resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors. Carroll was kept in a holding cell for 15-20 minutes before being released on a $1,500 bond.

Hilburn said the disagreement began at a piano bar when a bouncer wouldn't let Carroll and his friends in.

"They said it was full, but it wasn't full," Hilburn said. "One of the guys got into a disagreement with the bouncer and punches were thrown, but Ahmad had nothing to do with that. Ahmad just walked away."

After the incident, Hilburn said Carroll and his friends went to another bar where they were confronted by police.

"After Ahmad said he didn't know anything about what happened at the other bar, one of the cops told him he was free to go, and when Ahmad tried to walk out of the bar, the other cop wouldn't let him go," Hilburn said. "He grabbed Ahmad's arm. Ahmad jerked his arm away and then the cop pulled a taser out before he arrested him."

Hilburn said he's already talked to three witnesses who said that while some of the people in Carroll's party had been drinking, that Carroll said he had not had anything to drink.

Hilburn said he didn't thing anything serious would happen as a result of the arrest.

"It's not serious. He didn't do anything," Hilburn said. "After they released him, he was signing autographs for the other policemen before he left."

Earlier this month, Packers middle linebacker Nick Barnett was kicked out of a Milwaukee nightclub after allegedly attacking the venue's emcee. No charges were filed, though, the emcee said he plans to file a complaint.

awful nice treatment for someone that assaulted a police officer, something stinks here

Arkansas has some pretty lenient laws from the looks of things. Assault on a police officer is only a misdemeanor? :banned:

Carroll claims he was grabbed by a cop. He made this claim about 100 times during the NFL season. Guilty -- Holding, Defense, #28 ...

:P

From the article, all it says is that the cop grabbed Carroll, Carroll pulled away, and the officer then pulled a taser.Im guessing thats one of those charges that quickly goes away.

I guess it's possible too that the article might just have been poorly written, not that I'm one to criticize but.......

I judt don't believe that he would walk away, not his style. Carroll was always going against the grain. One time UA was called for holding three or four times in a game. The next week Coach Nutt had all the DBs practicing wearing thick gloves to limit their ability to grab and Carroll was quoted as saying, "It doesn't matter how Coach has us practive, I'm still gonna hold."IMO, he is his own authority and I wouldn't trust his word against witnesses or the police. He probably won't be charged, but you see this same attitude in his play.

FAYETTEVILLE — An owner of a Fayetteville piano bar says former Arkansas Razorbacks receiver Dedrick Poole punched a doorman after he and Green Bay Packers cornerback Ahmad “Batman” Carroll barged inside, demanding star treatment.

Don Ray, co-owner at Willy D’s, said Poole hit Benny Hicks in the face Feb. 16, breaking the doorman’s cheekbone. Fayetteville police are investigating a battery report filed that night by Hicks.

Police arrested Carroll, also a former Razorback, early Feb. 17 on charges he assaulted an officer who tried to question him about the ruckus at Willy D’s.

Carroll, 22, of Atlanta, will plead innocent March 10 to charges of misdemeanor assault on police, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, said his attorney, Sam Hilburn of North Little Rock.

Ray said Wednesday that Poole and Carroll caused a scene at Willy D’s after they weren’t immediately allowed inside. The piano bar at 216 W. Dickson St. was at capacity with 180 people, Ray said, and Poole and Carroll were told to wait.

“They weren’t happy about it,” Ray said. “They pushed their way inside, and Ahmad started flashing a business card around. Benny figured they were football players by the way people were flocking around them, but he didn’t know who Ahmad Carroll was.”

A bouncer ushered Carroll and Poole out the front door, and the two quickly squared off with Hicks, Ray said.

“Ahmad and Poole were pushing and grabbing Benny,” Ray said. “Ahmad was the most verbal, but it was Poole who punched him. Benny’s all of 150 pounds. He was hurt and bleeding. It was a bad scene.”

Fayetteville Police Sgt. Shannon Gabbard confirmed Thursday that Poole is the suspect in the battery, but he said no one has been arrested. Prosecutors will ultimately decide whether to file charges, Gabbard said.

“It looks like [Hick’s ] injuries are fairly significant,” he said. “It could be a felony, depending on how severe the injury is and what it takes to fix it.”

Ray said Hicks could need reconstructive surgery. Hicks didn’t respond to a request for comment made through Ray.

Poole couldn’t be reached by telephone.

Hicks reported the battery about 11: 30 p. m. on Feb. 16, and police began looking for Poole and Carroll in the Dickson Street area.

Officer Hunter Carnahan found the men at On the Rocks Patio & Grill, 339 West Ave. Poole stepped outside and gave a statement, but Carroll tried to leave.

Carnahan told Carroll he wasn’t free to go, and Carroll became belligerent. Carnahan put his hand up to stop Carroll from leaving, but Carroll slapped it down, an arrest report states.

Carroll resisted arrest by saying “no,” and Carnahan drew his taser gun, the report states. Carroll eventually complied.

Through Hilburn, Carroll has denied assaulting the officer.

Carroll and Poole contend they paid a Willy D’s bouncer $ 100 to go inside, then were denied admittance, Hilburn said.

As Carroll talked to a manager outside the bar, someone punched Hicks, Hilburn said.

Ray on Wednesday denied Willy D’s staff took money from the men.

Carroll threw something that might have been a bill in Hicks’ face at the door, but staff didn’t take it, Ray said.

Willy D’s will pursue criminal or civil restitution from Poole for Hicks’ medical costs, he said.

Carroll was in Fayetteville for off-season training, Hilburn said.

At Arkansas, Carroll was an All-SEC cornerback in 2002 and 2003. He also earned All-America honors as a sprinter for the Arkansas track team.
