Packers in trouble (1 Viewer)

Just to call it now:

The Packers will win big this weekend against Atlanta. All the tools will howl: Atlanta sucks! Wait 'till they play the Seahawks!

The Packers will beat the Seahawks. All the tools will howl: Just wait until the Packers get taken apart by Manning next week!

The Packers will beat the Colts.

It will then be their bye week, the Packers will be in first place in the NFC North with a record of 5-2.

:scared:
Aren't you supposed to start these fairy tales with "Once upon a time"? At the beginning of the season Atlanta looked like a 6" putt, but with the injuries this is more like a 5' putt on a slope. If they lose this game it is going to be a game changer.@ Seattle Seahawks

There isn't another game in those next games that are seemingly easy as this one. If I was Atlanta I would be sending the house on either Rodgers or Flynn and make them beat you through the air. A loss will probably be a great advertisement for #4 jerseys.

But I thought it was all good for Rodgers? I know I've seen multiple posts about there being no structural damage anyways...
I thought Rodgers returned and finished the game?
Not to be THAT guy that compares his old injury to a pro's...BUT...I've done that EXACT same thing to my throwing shoulder making diving catches in baseball...mulitple times, once in HS and once in college...same action, same result, no structural just strained ligaments and muscles, etc. When you sprain your shoulder it hurts momentarily and then just feels a little weak...you loosen it up and it feels manageable at the time...until it has time to stiffen. He came back in the game, but notice after he tossed that rock he grimmaced as his arm went limp at his side...pain so strong your arm goes numb.I GUARANTEE you later that night and especially the next morning, Rodgers couldn't pick up his morning coffee, brush his teeth, comb his hair, you name it...he at left-handed, and probably drove home from the game left-handed.He should probably sit to avoid real damage, but for game time they may be able to shoot it up--luxury I never had obviously--but this is a two (2) week ordeal, no doubt. I own him in my dynasty league and hope for the best, but I'm starting Warner over him the next couple of weeks unless he proves otherwise.

No, he wasn't the second best LB on his team. HE PASSED UP Barnett late last year and was really comeing into his own this year before the chest injury.

I was a defensive corridanater of 3 state championship teams AND 7 BIG SCHOOL STATE FINALIST! I know defenses.

No A.J was not one of greatest fantasy LB just yet. But within the schemes GB used he was a star! A stud. Always in the right place at the right time! Something you just don't teach! I saw his worst game since his rookie year when he tried to come back from chest injury. Something wasn't right! And now this. Probably lead to this.

A.J Hawk can not be replaced with anything even close to the level he was playing at.

G.B is in trouble!

Rodgers loss very similar to offense as A.J. s will be to D. GB can pretty much throw the towell in this season and use it to develop depth. Whatever.

It's between Minny and Bears for division now regardless if Rodgers lasts or not WITH a.j OUT.

MARK MY WORDS.
LOOK AT ME I COACH FOOTBALL !!!
Settle down...wow...GB's problem is well noted above, albeit indirectly--they're cheap...plenty of cap space and no depth at pretty much every position on the field...

Are you serious?WR is deeper than most teams in the league. LB is very, very deep. Secondary is very deep with young, talented players. TE looks pretty good. O line looks to be deep, but they do have needs at tackle. D line looked pretty deep to me, of course with Jenkins now out and Harrel on the PUP, you're missing two from the rotation.

This statement is very far from the truth.

Actually had depth at WR, Secondary has been rattled with injuries and held together.

Im not saying they should not have signed someone to play backup QB...they should have before training camp started...Flynn would not have gotten enough time for anyone to know what he brought to the table making it doubtful anyone would have snagged him off of the practice squad.

Also, should have signed Corey Williams during the season last year rather than waiting to franchise and then trade him. Though, I think TT though Harrell would be good to go.

Seems an awful lot like karmic retribution for dumping a legend.

The losses of Jenkins and Hawk are bad enough and will kill the Packers season, but not having a real backup QB in todays NFL is incredibly stupid and goes on Ted Thompson. Heres a team that told Brett Favre to go away and now they have no one.

Have you seen him in Cleveland. Trading him was fine - it's the selection of Brohm, and Brohm's struggles, that is problematic.

I'll give you depth at WR...but with no one to toss the rock to them. Dude, what's THE most important position on the field? The loss of what position will sink an NFL ship faster than any other? My overall point is why have cap space?--what free-agent acquisition are y'all poised to go after that you can't sign a half-### QB that's taken a few NFL snaps. And 'young talent' is not 'depth', it's cheap filler with upside. Philly has secondary 'depth', Dallas has secondary 'depth'...guys that WILL stop the bleeding, not just HOPE they will...

I saw him last year in GB.I see him playing a different position in a 3/4 and he is doing as much if not more as Pickett is. And that Cleveland defense so far has sadly been just a bit better than the Packer D.

I think he thought Harrell would be ok...but instead, Harrell decided after his rookie season was pretty much a waste, to celebrate and eat a ton and get out of shape...then the back issue flares up while lifting trying to push himself back into shape.

And look, I like Harrell and think if he gets right health wise he will be good (just by what I saw of him at Tennessee)...but right now, we need help on that Dline and the D is getting worn down late in games...not sure why it would be a bad thing to have another solid guy to plug in up the middle.

Speaking of Harrell...he was actually in shoulder pads at practice today...shocking, I know...

other injury/practice news for today...

# QB Aaron Rodgers was present for the first part of practice but he wasn't in pads and didn't participate.

# Others who were out: S Atari Bigby, CB Charles Woodson, RB Kregg Lumpkin, CB Al Harris, FB Korey Hall, S Aaron Rouse, LB A.J. Hawk and DE Jason Hunter.

# Nick Collins was back, no pun intended.

# Hawk went through walkthroughs and then did a rehab workout.

I'd take Green Bay's secondary depth over Dallas' any time. Tramon Williams, Will Blackmon, and Aaron Rouse all held their own against Tampa. If your beef is QB depth, that's fine. I agree. But this team has pretty good depth overall.

Quite a turnaround from the first two weeks. The division is still open for anybody, but contrary to what I thought before the season started, it'd appear that the Bears have the best shot after these injuries have played out. Freaky.

All of it depends on how hurt Rodgers really is and whether or not he can string together more offense than the depleted defense let's up. I wanted to count them out before the season starts. In spite of the fact that Rodger's good games came against a Vikings D that they had a great gameplan for, and the hapless lions, I am not going to write the Pack off just yet.

The Vikings STILL have a lot to overcome before they become the serious threat I would love them to be, the Lions are the lions, and the bears are proving to be very surprising. The Packers have to step up in a lot of areas as well to be more consistent, but I think that unless Rodgers' injury keeps him out for a month or more they've got just as good a shot as ever at winning the division.

who would replace AJ assuming he will not be in the lineup this week?
Desmond Bishop? I think this kid has some talent, maybe the opportunity to showcase it is now?
I was thinking probably Tracy White.related note: Packers signed DE Kenny Pettway yesterday.
According to Will Jordan, Pettway's agent, the Packers signed the 6-4, 248-pound end, who was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the cutdown to 53 on Aug. 30. In two seasons with the Jaguars, Pettway, 25, played in 17 games and had 14 tackles and three sacks. He is considered more of a pass rusher than a run defender because of his size.He was a seventh-round draft choice of the Houston Texans in 2005Pettway's name was in the news quite a bit in Jacksonville because he was a passenger in the SUV in which Jaguars offensive lineman Richard Collier was shot 14 times on Sept. 2. It was revealed this week that Collier was paralyzed by the shooting and had to have one of his legs amputated above the knee.
Follow up to this.Article on jsonline seemed to say it could be Bishop or Chillar instead of White if Hawk cannot go."Injury reportLinebacker A.J. Hawk (groin) took part in the team's walk-through but he did not wear pads and worked with assistant strength and conditioning coach Mark Lovat during the full practice session. The Packers have two choices to replace Hawk if he can't play: Brandon Chillar and Desmond Bishop. Chillar has more experience at the position but Bishop played some against Tampa Bay."Though, I have been told by one that I am embarassing to Packer fans by bringing such info to the table...maybe I should delete it.

Bishop was the one who was in for Hawk and out of position on the back breaking final Tampa touchdown run... (sigh)

Speaking of Harrell...he was actually in shoulder pads at practice today...shocking, I know...
Harrell had pads on but no contact while he is working out. He can't officially practice until October 13th. From JS Online...Each day, while the rest of the team is practicing, Harrell joins assistant strength coach Mark Lovat for an hour of movement drills aimed at preparing him for his return to the football field. He’s done before the meaty part of practice begins and generally showered and gone before his teammates are back to the locker room.Harrell’s teammates might not see him much, but he’s around. In preparation for his return from the second of two back surgeries Aug. 25, Harrell, the team’s 2007 first-round draft choice, spends three to four hours a day working with trainers and strength coaches building himself back up so he’s physically able to play football again.Since the back surgery, Harrell has taken turns working with assistant trainer Bryan Engel, strength and conditioning coach Rock Gullickson and Lovat. Engel takes Harrell through the rehabilitation exercises, Gullickson supervises his weight lifting and Lovat runs him until his legs are about to crumble.Harrell generally works out four hours a day. He is not allowed to take part in defensive meetings, so once he’s done with his physical work there isn’t much for him to do around the facility. Gullickson said Harrell was down in the dumps during training camp when his back prevented him from practicing, but since the last surgery — a minor procedure to repair a disc problem — he has been aggressive in his approach.Harrell’s work in pads Thursday is part of that process. He did not do any contact work, but that will come soon enough. Nunn said he would have a program ready to get Harrell on the fast track for playing again, setting up individual drills to help get him in football shape once he’s cleared medically.

Meant just to joke that he was actually in pads.It was on the side and most of his team does not see him very often because he is usually done with that work before they hit the big part of their practice. So far though, he looks on track to come back and has worked pretty hard to get where he is right now by all accounts.Maybe he has the attitude now that he lacked this offseason as far as working.I sure hope so.

Then why the discussion in this thread? If y'all are so stacked with depth behind every position--excluding QB--then why all the talk? Even with Rodgers in there the last couple of weeks your squad has looked rather average...but that big a fall due to 1 or 2 injuries? You went to the NFC Title game last year, so your major pieces seemed to be in place heading into this season...so why not spend a couple of bucks to beef-up the depth with veteran players?--what would that hurt? So what's the money for? Y'all wouldn't give up a 4th for Moss because you didn't want to pay him.My point is simple...GB seems to be playing money-ball like the A's and Indians...stay young, hope for contention, save some money. Your boys could've done SO much better the last couple of years to put together a deep and talented squad with youngsters and vets alike...that's all.

Aren't you supposed to start these fairy tales with "Once upon a time"? At the beginning of the season Atlanta looked like a 6" putt, but with the injuries this is more like a 5' putt on a slope. If they lose this game it is going to be a game changer.@ Seattle Seahawks

Indianapolis Colts

Open Date

@ Tennessee Titans

@ Minnesota Vikings

Chicago Bears (Gold Pkg.)

@ New Orleans Saints

Carolina Panthers

There isn't another game in those next games that are seemingly easy as this one. If I was Atlanta I would be sending the house on either Rodgers or Flynn and make them beat you through the air. A loss will probably be a great advertisement for #4 jerseys.
Leaving Driver and Jennings one on one. Love it. Even Flynn could figure that one out...
How many times has Rodgers gotten drilled because neither he nor any other Packer could see him or pick him up? I believe it is around 3 times so far this year and if they don't get the running game going there could be a lot more of those. The last thing you want to do to a young QB is sit back and play coverage and allow him to get comfortable.

I'd take Green Bay's secondary depth over Dallas' any time. Tramon Williams, Will Blackmon, and Aaron Rouse all held their own against Tampa. If your beef is QB depth, that's fine. I agree. But this team has pretty good depth overall.
1 or 2 injuries? By my count, here it is: Harrel, Al Harris, AJ Hawk, Atari Bigby, Charles Woodson (still looks damn good), Nick Collins, Aaron Rouse, Charlie Peprah, Cullen Jenkins. Those are the defensive injuries right now. 1 or 2? You'll notice the entire starting secondary is nursing injuries.
