Or is the Rodgers-J.T. O'Sullivan grudge match?

Anyway, discuss the game in this thread. Game starts at 6 pm San Francisco time, 8 pm Green Bay time.

Grant and Jennings not expected to play again for the Packers. No confirmation on the rumor the Niners are trying to lure John Brodie out of retirement to start at QB.

From what I have read, there was a good chance Alex would have started but one of Alex smith's friends, since they were 14yrs old, committed suicide last weekend.

JTO is scheduled to handle the load for the first half and then Alex will come in.

I was listening to The Huddle earlier this evening on ESPN Radio and John Clayton was saying about how much money Rodgers lost by sliding GB in the that draft years back.

He estimated it to be about 49 million dollars! I guess this is the contract that Alex Smith has/had along with signing bonuses? I don't know.

But still.....wow. I'm rooting for Rodgers.

Rogers could easily have 2TD passes. Lee dropped one in the endzone and Driver dove for a pass when it looked like he could have just run through it, dropped it anyway.

The Driver pass was just a hair ahead of him; it certainly should have been caught, but I don't think he could have caught it quite in stride.

Rodgers sacked on third and 2. He went through three reads and then pulled the ball down, but too late as the pocket had collapsed. His passing has been good but he still needs to work on his pocket presence.

overall, Pack had good chances, but failed to take advantage of them.

SF really had no opportunities.

SF on the packers goal line (missed the play that got them there)

Good lean, Foster gets TD. Pack should of stripped the ball - they had him stopped well behind the line

Coulda......... Woulda......... ShouldaThe stats say 6/11 for 27 whole yards and sacked FOUR times by a horrible pass rushing defense, I don't think the 49ers had 4 sacks in any game last year. Rodgers has zero pocket presence, he is not impressing me at all, I'm thinking of a 4 letter word, starting with B and ending with T.

Sort of. There has been disconnects. but that was a perfect pass to Lee. Do you think VernonDavis would of dropped that? Noway.

I'll give you that on Lee's drop, it was a good pass. Rodgers doesn't seem very aware of the pass rush and is taking way too many sacks, something Favre wouldn't be doing, I see a rough season for Rodgers, real rough.

I am not terribly happy about the Packers performance, but I am not terribly depressed.

If this is how the Packers look for the next two preseason games, then they are going to have a bad start to the season

very tough schedule to start. I could definitely see a 2-4 start with Rodgers at the helm.

If they play like this, I wouldnt bet on better than 3-3I still think they will get better. Grant, Jennings, hopefully the O line.

Like it or not, it's going to come down to Rodgers. Teams are going to blitz him like mad to start the year. He won't get the respect that Favre earned. He gets sacked waaaay too much, not only in the preseason but in his extremely limited time in the regular season. I looked it up a while back but I think he played parts of 5 games and got sacked 9 times. It's not just the sacks, it's that he's had trouble staying healthy despite barely playing.

wow. morgan 59 yd td rec. word had been strong on this kid.
Does the kid look as good as advertised? I'm trying to decide on my WR4/5. Can't decide between the #2 guy in a good passing offense (Kevin Walter) or Morgan, who is in a pretty weak offense, but a Martz offense that probably will throw a lot.

Pack have to get Grant and Jennings back. Otherwise it will be a long season

Who looked better tonight, the guy the Packers kicked to the curb who has been on his new team for 8 days with a 83% completion ratio and a TD or the Packers knight in shining armor who has been on the team for 4 years to go with his 4 sacks, 50% completion ratio and an INT?

Yea those are two huge blow against Rodgers. Jackson is worthless. The Packers really miss Grant at RB. That said, Rodgers just didn't show any confidence tonight. He was hurt by the two big drops, including a wide-open Lee in the end zone, but he looked jittery, held the ball too long and made some bad decisions. Rich Gannon was talking about all of that during the telecast. The biggest problem I had with Rodgers was there was never a feeling that he was going to make a big play to keep drives alive and get the Packers into the end zone. You need that from your QB and a team with Super Bowl aspirations must have that. The 49ers, by the way, are awful. J.T. O'Sullivan had a great throw for the TD but other than that he was awful. They may have the worst collection of QBs in the league - even worse than Chicago's.
