Packers UFA are really weak (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
The youngest team in the league, already $20M under the cap (projected) and the only UFA on the roster are:

Tracy White - LB - Special Teams dude

Craig Nall - QB - Late season add for protection

Rob Davis - Long Snapper - 39 years old and all he does is snap

Ryan Krause - TE - ground beef

Frank Walker - CB - 5th or 6th CB on roster (inactive 4 games)

Corey Williams - DL - steady but unspectacular DT (who can play end) - will get way too much money as a FA - would stay with the Packers if they were willing to pay, which Ted Thompson is not (and Ted has a pretty good record going with these calls). 2007 1st rounder waiting in wings to start in his spot.

I think the packers will struggle next year. They caught a lot of breaks early in the year and just seemed to have everything fall in place for them until they lost to the Giants. I thought they beat up on a lot of weak teams for most of the year. I think they will be rated high in a lot of preseason predictions but I have a feeling they will be next years saints.

I would not call Corey Williams weak.Id love to see them be able to bring him back. He wants to stay. But...with drafting Harrell, he may be as good as gone.Agreed on the rest. I could see them keeping White as he was a good special teamer.

The only break they caught was staying relatively injury free other than OL where their depth saved them, and at RB where it was a gift in that they discovered Ryan Grant.

Guess we'll see. Fortunately, they still play in a terrible division. As long as: 1) Millen stays in Detroit, 2) Childress stays in MN, 3) Jerry Angelo is GM of the Bears.......I like the Packers' chances.

Struggle why? They were pretty good this year...and that young to boot. With a favorable cap situation. The guards moving into their 3rd year and the 3rd year of the line being together.alot of breaks? Or they made their breaks. I don't think too much just fell into their lap. They went out...played hard...and won.Beat up on alot of weak teams?Like Washington, NY, Minny, San Diego? Its not as if they got 6 games against the Jets, Dolphins, and Bills.

I would not call it as much of a terrible division.1) Even with Millen, the Lions are improving.2) Childress aside, the Vikings showed they were a tough team. Give them a QB and anyone who can catch and they could be dangerous.3) Agreed...though, if he just gets smart enough to get a QB...they could be a scary team.I think the division is shaping up to be a pretty good battle next year.

Well, there's that and the annual "Will he stay or will he go?" Favre watch to keep Packer fans busy, eh? :boxing:
Annual? You yahoos that keep bringing up this crap need to put the blame where it belongs............with the media. They're the ones that keep throwing the fuel on the fire. It almost as sad as people like you that keep bringing it up time after time after time after time after time after time. Get the message?

They got SD and the NY Giants early in the year when both were struggling. Minnesota and Washington are mediocre teams. Its probably more of a hunch than anything. I saw a lot of weird bounces that just seemed to go the Packers way. The football gods have a way of evening these things out. Why would anyone think the Saints would struggle this year?

Exactly. At this point...he is under contract to play QB for the Green Bay Packers. He owes us no announcement unless he is going to retire.

The Giants struggled multiple times during the year...as did SD.The Saints also had a few injuries (and really played more on emotion than just talent last year).

Because they have a mediocre defense and an overrated running back. Plus they had some key injuries (McAlister in particular)

1) the Lions were the recipients of an easy schedule this year; once the schedule got tougher, they folded2) agreed, though I question if Childress is able to admit that T Jackson is not the answer3) the team is aging, and Angelo cannot draft well on the offensive sideGreen Bay looks to be in great shape - a few holes to fill, but ample cap room to do it.

The biggest key for the Packers next year is simply that if Favre does retire, Rodgers is more than good enough to step in and, at minimum, be a servicable QB... add that to the great defense we have and our very good RB situation (Grant is great, but Wynn & Jackson were rookies last year) and the I just don't see how the Packers are going to fall off next year. Too young, too deep, and way too talented...

You're 100% correct. When the instigating media asks, "Brett, will you retire this year?" they never listen hard enough for the "I will not speak about that. It's a dead issue as far as I'm concerned" answer that Favre has repeatedly given them for the past 4 or 5 years....... :goodposting:

Why do you let it bother you? Or is it just a stupid comeback because you have nothing of substance to offer? I'll give you some advice if you don't like it just ignore it and move along, unless you have some kind of agenda. You'll look a lot less foolish. I really find it hard to believe that Favre's decision whether to retire or not creates such a stir. Nothing better to be concerned about in your life?

Bothers me? I find it highly amusing, actually. Packer fans holding their breath to hear what Bretty will say/do next and acting like it's the big, bad media creating the story when the man himself does absolutely nothing to stop the circus. Couldn't possibly be that he loves the attention, hmmmmmm?

The NFC in general was weak. Dallas did the same thing. Look at Tampa and Seattle. I expect the same thing nexe year. Brett will be back and the team should contend for the division again. Not sure why you think they will struggle. Hopefully Ted will have a good draft and sign a couple FA's and we'll be fine.

Corey's gone. He's going to break the bank with probably a team in our division and you know how Ted feels about bidding wars.

Beergogglz is an obvious Packer hater with nothing else to do but troll around in Packer threads spreading the doom and gloom. Clearly he can't find enough news on his own team to talk about. His shtick is old.

Corey Williams need to be moved on, team has more than enough talent on the line to replace him. Williams has been just a platoon type player since he was drafted by the Packers.

I think the division looks pretty tough, as the Bears down year can be attributed to injuries, and the Vikings should continue to improve. Who knows what the Lions will do, but they have to get better at some point, eh?
