http://blogs.charlotte.com/panthers/2008/0...y-afternoo.htmlJust FYI. Looks like they have gotten smarter moving Thomas Davis to the weak side, but not smart enough because Richard Marshall is still only playing in the Nickle.July 27, 2008
Sunday afternoon highlights
A few highlights from Sunday's training camp practice at Wofford:
-- When the Panthers switched from their base starting defense to the nickel scheme in passing situations, here's what happened:
BASE
LDE -- Tyler Brayton; LDT -- Maake Kemoeatu; RDT -- Damione Lewis; RDE -- Julius Peppers
SLB -- Na'il Diggs; MLB -- Jon Beason; WLB -- Thomas Davis
LCB -- Chris Gamble; SS -- Chris Harris; FS -- Charles Godfrey; RCB -- Ken Lucas
NICKEL
LDE -- Stanley McGlover; LDT -- Brayton; RDT -- Lewis; RDE -- Peppers
LBs -- Beason; Davis
LCB -- Gamble; SS -- Harris; FS -- Godfrey; RCB -- Lucas; Nickel -- Richard Marshall.
So, what happened was Marshall and McGlover came in, Kemoeatu and Diggs went out, and Brayton moved inside from an outside position.
------
And Gamble has a cast on his hand but they are still starting him in the base defense.
At least its an improvement.
Also I am reading that the DTs are not playing well and there are concerns that the Panthers will be soft up the middle. This could hurt Beason if he is forced to fight off too many blockers.
