Parcells is retiring (1 Viewer)

Not really surprised but huge news. Will be tough to find a decent replacement at this point...

What is the report based upon?

Edit- wow, big news.

Who do the Cowboys hire now?

If true, great news for Dallas. The Tuna was out coached several times this year, most notably the loss vs. N.O. and the Seattle game.

:goodposting:And I'm a Redskins fan. It's going to take some doing for the Cowboys to hire a coach of his caliber who can lead that team, especially with TO on the roster. This is not good news for them.

:goodposting: Cowboys fan here. Hall of Fame coach, but he did not show it with the Cowboys (except maybe the year that they got to the playoffs with QUINCY CARTER as their QB).

can we speculate that it was TUNA or TO... and Jerry went with the TO? curious Pat Crayton owner here...
I was thinking similar things.Although maybe not a direct "him or me", this could increase the possibility of TO coming back to Dallas next year.

He had to. The New York and East coast media were having an increasingly difficult time proping up the overinflated legend. Everytime he coached he made it harder to sustain the myth.

I guess this means jerah choose T.O. over Tuna. The train wreck should be in full force in no time.

The irony here is that Parcells was as good at anyone at deflecting attention away from TO and managing him on the roster, and yet TO was probably a significant factor in driving Parcells away from coaching. The biggest favor the Cowboys can do for a new coach will be to dump TO, but I don't think JJ is smart enough (or humble enough) to understand that. They'd also better dump Bledsoe because I think he's going to be the kind of guy to grumble about his backup role and undermine Romo with that team, something that he didn't dare do with Parcells there.

I know that it is near a fool's errand to guess what value players will have when a coach leaves a team when we have yet to know who will take over a team but Dallas RB corp value could be in flux.

A correct guess could lead to a good "buy low" on M. Barber or J. Jones.

In Parcells case, shouldnt "retiring" be in quotes? The fat tuna will resurface in a couple of years.
:excited:By most accounts Parcells intended for the Jets to be his last gig, but then his divorce cleaned him out so he took this job for the money. His tired, flat appearance during much of this coaching tenure in Dallas seemed to support that IMHO. This was his last hurrah.

I think Jones has already stated he wants Wade Philips. That means the Chargers lose both their OC and DC. Not good.

I'm going to a small event next month where Bledsoe's doing a "meet and greet" thing, and am supposedly going to get to meet him. I definitely don't want to be the dork fawning over the celeb, but it's pretty tempting to try to dig up some dirt on Parcells, TO, and Bledsoe's attitude about sticking around there. Probably I'll just play it cool and leave him alone, but if someone else starts the questioning it could be like sharks in the water.

The bottom line is that this is just not a good time to be hiring. There aren't a lot of prime candidates (most of the top, young, untested guys from the NFL coaching ranks were hired last year) and the Cowboys won't be the first team to hire someone this offseason, and are about the 5th team or in line to even start setting up interviews.

they can have wade. He's not HC material.Nick Saban? :excited: What about Martz? or Russ Grimm, nah, nobody wants him.If I'm Jerry I pony up the cash/picks and go after cowher

Get me Bill Cowher.
One year too early for that.
Find someone to coach for one year in the interim then.
It's funny, but I was just about to post that that's what I think will end up happening, though they of course won't in fact say that. Basically, under the circumstances unless they surprise everyone and lure a top college coach like Carroll or Weis, I think they hire a second tier head coaching prospect (a retread like Phillips or a not-highly regarded assistant) who will keep the seat warm for a year or two until they can line up someone they really like.

Bledsoe is very classy. When Tom Brady took over for him in NE, there was a little complaining, but not much. And same in Dallas. Just enough for the fans and the media to know Bledsoe was upset about losing the job. In both instances he supported the starting qb and was never a distraction. Too bad there aren't more players in Dallas that can claim that...

If that's the case I bet Jerry Jones is meeting with TO right now to find out who TO wants to coach him.

wouldn't put it past TO to have already given JJ a list....

 Get someone in for a year, preferably someone large enough to physically fight TO in the Valley Ranch parking lot after a season of building tension. Then get rid of both of them and bring in Cowher in 2008. If Wade Phillips really is on Jerry's wish list as a HC, then I am thinking he is thinking along those lines as well.Local radio has also mentioned bringing Norv Turner back, which would help in the mentoring of Romo.

As a 49er fan: NOOOOOOOO!!! Turner helped bring respectability to the offense this year, and definitely groomed Alex Smith. San Fransisco NEEDS him to stay.

:fishing: Turner is the last guy you want there with TO. Besides, aside from Aikman I haven't seen one success story for Turner in coaching young QB's.

Very accurate Redman...I sure as hell hope Norv Turner stays right where he is.Wouldn't be surprised to here Maurice Carthons name come up as well as Sarkaisian again.Carthon becauae he's a BP guy who is still regarded as more of a HC than a Coordinator (Phil Simms take) and Sarkasian because he has been in the league and is a QB guy to bring Romo along.

 :lmao: :lmao:
I can assure you, and hope you report back. Bledsoe is a HUGH jerk. You won't come back warm and fuzzy.Let us know how it goes.

It is what it is said:
Forget Charlie Weiss...that ain't happening. Guaranteed.Look out for Jimmy Johnson here...
Why on earth would Johnson return to coach under JJ? That's like Parcells returning to work for Kraft in NE, is it not? Anyway, Jimmy has flatly indicated on a number of occasions that he absolutely does not want to coach again. I just don't see that happening.

Not saying he would be the right choice... just saying what local media has been saying.
