Passing yardage by team in 2006 (1 Viewer)

Based simply on yardage, here's how I feel each team will end up (number next to each team is how they finished last year):

IND (3) - 1st in '04 & '03; passing more in '06 and back on top

STL (4) - Top 5 past 7 years; pass schedule easier than rush

ARI (1) - No choice but to pass in '05; Edge vs Arrington...hmm?

OAK (10) - Great pass schedule, brutal rush schedule

KC (6) - Same as above

NE (2) - Healthy Dillon/Maroney will make Brady pass less in '06

CIN (5) - Moved 'em down 2 spots with injured Carson

DAL (15) - TO catapults them 7 spots

PHI (8) - Losing TO drops them a spot, but McNabb/Westy OK

GB (7) - 7th in '05 with only Driver; age moves em' down 3 spots

NYG (11) - Nice ground game keeps them from moving up

DEN (18) - Hello Walker, goodbye Anderson; will pass more in '06

DET (26) - Martz will make sure they rack up passing stats

SEA (13) - SA's running eats into Hass's passing stats

TEN (9) - Will rely more on run this year, dropped them 6 spots

NO (14) - Moved down 2 spots with balanced rushing attack

SD (12) - Is 5 spots enough to drop them with Rivers at the helm?

MIA (16) - Will go up a few more spots if Culps gets healthy faster

CAR (17) - They don't pass as much as you think

MIN (20) - No real reason to move them up or down on the list

JAX (19) - 19th past 2 yrs; you want Leftwich as your FF QB1?

CLE (23) - Should improve from last year, but not by miles

BAL (22) - If McNair comes to town, move em' up about 4 spots

WAS (21) - Their D holds teams, Portis runs; no big need to pass

PIT (24) - Always be run-first; Ben is good NFL QB, not FFL QB

TB (25) - Another ground pound team with little reason to pass

NYJ (28) - Should finish near the bottom again in passing yards

ATL (27) - 167 YPG in '05; if Schaub comes in, move em' up alot

HOU (30) - Hey, at least I moved them up a spot from last year

SF (32) - 119 YPG in '05, same QB in '06; VD moves em' up 2

BUF (29) - Lost Moulds, same QB problems; not looking promising

CHI (31) - CHI gets off on winning with such a pitiful passing O

Please add your input and criticize my rankings. That's what we're all here to do...share your thoughts.

I'll take the over for JAX...they didn't draft all those WR weapons to finish below average in passing yardage.

I think i would move ariz. up t0 2 and drop stl. a few spots...(6th or 7th)

now that there is a real team playing and not martz playing fantasy football with a real team on sundays, i think qb production down.. wins up!!

I don't agree with the comments on Zona but ....

St. louis will drop as they learn a new O

Oakland seems to high to me but I can see the argument

I think Cincy will be even lower. I don't think Carson comes back with all guns blazing and can easily see them pounding and pounding their RBs and taking shots with Chad until Carson gets more comfy. It would also minimize the mistakes Wright(or whomever) makes when they fill in. I think they're good enough to not have to "press" and rush Carson.

Carolina comments make me want to ask you how much Delhomme threw for last year

But none of those WR's are gonna make a difference this year, seeing that JAX already has Jimmy Smith, Matt Jones, Ernest Wilford, and Reggie Williams. Perhaps JAX drafted a slew of WR's in the hopes that one would pan out to become the eventual replacement for Jimmy Smith?

Delhomme threw for 3421 yards, which placed him 11th. But you have to factor in that while he played all 16 games, there were a number of teams that put up more yards; they just did it with multiple QB's. Carolina ended up with the 17th most passing yards. It just seemed like more because all you saw on sportscenter last year was Steve Smith running wild. Jake still did well as an FFL QB, because he tied for 4th in the league in TD passes with 24 (Steve Smith had 12 of them).

Those are the guys he's talking about. Jimmy Smith is still good and Jones, Wilford and Williams are coming up.

That's right...let's not forget about Mercedes Lewis at TE and Drew as an explosive 3rd down RB.

Grants, I am a Giants homer, but you have them in the same spot they were last year. This year, you have:

A very young QB with a huge extra year of experience under his belt

Plaxico with his second year in the system and second with Eli

Sinorice Moss as a huge weapon on screens and underneath will break off a few long ones that the Giants wouldnt dream of last year.

I'm not saying you should draft Leftwich early and lock him in for the year as your fantasy starter. But if you can get him late, he might be a steal. He had decent stats in 05 but they are even better when you recognize the fact that the O-line was terrible before Khalif Barnes was put in the starting line up. Here's a look:

Weeks 1-4 (Pre-Barnes)

3.25 sacks allowed per game - would have ranked 29th in the league

99.5 rush yards/game - would have ranked 21st in the league

3.6 YPC - would have tied for 27th in the league

Weeks 5-17 (Barnes)

1.75 sacks allowed per game - Would have tied for 7th in the league

131.2 rush yards/game - would have tied for 8th in the league

4.1 YPC - would have ranked 12th in the league

That's a pretty big impovement. Byron's stats also improved greatly once Barnes was the starting LT. In the 6 games he played with Barnes at LT he had 10 passing TDs, 2 rushing TDs and just 2 INTs and close to 1,500 yards. Those project out to some impressive numbers.

Stats aside, I watch every Jags game including preseason and go to camp every day it's open to the public. This is the first season I've thought Leftwich will be a legit fantasy starter. Before the injury it seemed clear that Leftwich was finally "getting it" so to speak. If he can pick up where he left off it should be a very productive season for the Jax QB.

While I agree that Byron is a good QB, his situation I liken to Ben Roethlisberger. These two guys are both fine, but they are asked moreso to not lose, rather than to win. When you have a defense as good as JAX or PIT, your QB doesn't have to put up great stats. The only way I see Byron's stats shoot up is if JAX falls behind in lots of games. And since I don't see that happening, his pass attempts will remain relatively low.

I agree that under Del Rio, it's very unlikely that Leftwich will ever put up huge numbers. But a year like Hasselbeck had last season is possible and would make him a solid fantasy starter. Only 9 QBs had more than 20 TD passes last season and Leftwich was easily on pace to break 20. Around 3,500 yards and 25 TDs would seem to be the high end for him, but that's not bad. He was close to on that pace last season and at or beyond that pace with Barnes in the line up. I can't say enough about the differince Khalif Barnes made once he was starting. It was night and day.

Tampa with a low ranking is interesting to me. I've been wondering if Gruden really intends his offense to be run oriented, or if he's just waiting to find a new Rich Gannon.

I think Tampa's passing game has been limited by QB play, if Simms can continue to progress I think you'll see TB evolve into a top passing team. Gruden has proven he can put together a high octane passing offense.

He had no #2 WR nor TE worth talking about really. Now they have Meshawn and(some on this board seem to think) they uncoverred a gem in Drew Carter. Keary an impressive rook, played hurt all year which leads me to wonder how much a soph slump was and what was due to injury. Numbers:

4th lowest attempts, 5th lowest completions YET 4th best in YPA and 6th in TD. After those low comp/att #s, 16th in yardage. That strikes me as a team amking the most of their opportunities in the passing game.

There's alot to indicate to me that they will improve. You have them dropping two spots.
