I am done with the NFL for good. I am canceling the NFL network the minute I get home. I will NEVER give the NFL another dime of my money. This careless over reaction to an obvious sting by the NFL is a disgrace. Unfortunately for the Pats and Tom Brady, they were hung without being able to discuss this joke of a report by a biased entity.I will never watch another NFL game. Thank goodness the Pats won that Super Bowl, because at least I can enjoy THAT memory as the last memory I ever have of NFL football.

Let the moron haters stew in their victory lap (the punishment), I'm done. Deleting my Twitter account because I don't want to read any more about this. All I can say to the NFL the non Pat's fans is go **** yourselves and I hope you suffer horrible misfortunes.

I've been a football fan since I was a little kid in the late 60's and early 70's, and I'm very depressed that a 40+ year love affair that I had with the NFL is now over. Fair warning to anyone out there that gloats to my face (in person), you will be sipping your meals through a straw for several months.

Honestly, I don't even care if this punishment gets appealed, though I feel Brady and the Pats will take it like the little #####es they are. I damn them to hell forever if/when they do. I don't care what happens anyway, it's over.

For the people here, thanks for the 10+ years of enjoyable conversation, this is the best message board on the Internet, and everybody here deserves much better than the over zealous punishment the NFL handed out today based on no proof. Best of luck to everyone here. I won't be around anymore except to congratulate you if the Pats win again next year.

Yep, 100% done. All NFL/Football related accounts on Twitter have been unfollowed and unliked on Facebook. NFL ball has gone in the trash and my Patriots gear will be going to goodwill tomorrow. Will be signing out of here and not be returning too.

**** the league, said I'd be done if this happened and I'm sticking by it. Hope Brady sues the living crap out of them and they lose the antitrust exemption.

I would like to commend the NFL here. Honestly. Regardless of how solid or not their evidence may have been, they came to a conclusion he did wrong. They did not back down regardless of this player's stature as a premier player and a face of the league. Everyone was saying cause he's a big time player in the league he'd get off with a slap on the wrist. Good for the NFL on standing their ground.
Commend them on being inconsistent?

4 games for their MVP, $1 Mil and next years 1st?

That is overboard.
It would be if it were NE 1st offense but its not!
Like first offense ever? Whens the clock start over? The next time the Saints, Falcons or Browns break a rule are they gonna have magnitudes more serious penalties?
Of course!! you can't honestly believe that this decision was based upon a imaginary "the Pats against the world" mentality? You can't seriously believe that.
No it was more along the lines of every team has done something and this "first offense" nonsense is complete garbage.
Other teams first offenses didn't decide the biggest American sporting event of the year either.

Lol, canceling the NFL network in May is a pretty severe step, kudos.

Ok, you're sort of right, the Saints appealed it, Goodell heard appeal, and the Saints could have got one pick back, but apparently didn't in the long run. ESPN at http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7792405/nfl-upholds-suspension-new-orleans-saints-sean-payton-mickey-loomis-joe-vitt

NFL denies Saints' appeals

The NFL upheld its discipline in the New Orleans Saints bounty case, meaning coach Sean Payton will begin his yearlong suspension April 16.

The league announced the penalties Monday, noting that the bans for general manager Mickey Loomis (eight games) and assistant coach Joe Vitt (six games) stand and will begin after the preseason. Payton's suspension will last through Super Bowl XLVII, which is being held in New Orleans.

The NFL's statement said that commissioner Roger Goodell will review the status of all three individuals after each suspension ends and sources told ESPN that Payton, Loomis and Vitt will have to adhere to league restrictions during their suspensions or put at risk their timely reinstatement, possible reductions of financial penalties, and possible modification of a forfeited 2013 second-round draft pick.

A league official tells ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that means, for example, that Payton is "not allowed to engage in any coaching activities. Roger [Goodell] commented on that at the league meeting press conference, saying he's not naïve enough to think there won't be some contact but [Payton's] not allowed to coach from home ... If a player has a baby, can he call to congratulate him? I don't think we're going to worry about that, or have a wiretap on his phone."

The team was previously fined $500,000 and docked second-round picks this year and next for a three-year pay-for-pain system that rewarded injury-causing hits by Saints defenders. While the Saints cannot salvage their 2012 second-rounder, the league's announcement suggested there could be a modification of the 2013 pick penalty and reduction in the individuals' lost pay, although the fine will not be reduced.
So it sounds like there was a possibility of getting the 2013 second back... but I don't think they did. Looking at the 2013 draft, the Saints did not make a 2nd round pick. So I gather that part of the penalty wasn't revoked.
It doesn't sound like the draft pick was ever going to be subject to any contemplated appeal. It just sounds like the league reserved the right to voluntarily reduce its punishment if it felt like it, but ultimately decided not to.

There is no way in hell this punishment stands. Brady will miss two games. #Patriots will end up losing a 3rd round pick. Favorite it.
Kraft already stated he wouldnt fight any judgment the NFL handed out.
Yes he did. I don't think he will accept this however.
A loss of draft picks? He absolutely had to be expecting that as a result. As well as a fine. Not sure what else he would fight.

Just follow the example, cheat and steal the stuff u want.

I want the NFL to check the game balls at halftime at Lambeau when its -15

I PROMISE the balls will have less air - physics cannot be escaped .... and whomever the Packers are playing, both will be fined and players suspended and draft picks lost.
The point is that both teams start with a level playing field, or relatively so. What happens naturally from that starting point, so long as not man made, is fair game. Who knows, without experimentation I would guess that the pressure would drop as the ideal gas law is a law, not a random event. Now on the other hand the leather and the bladder may also contract from the cold acting to increase the internal pressure, whether that would offset the air pressure loss from temperature I cannot say. I don't even know that the leather and the bladder would shrink at all under those temperatures, but it seems they would since most materials do. Maybe we should get some of those MIT guys on this.

Add one more to the dishonest list in New England.
Yeah, I dont think Kraft will go against his own word.

He may make a speech against the finding/result though.

Amazing link. We think we have it good with the zootainment that Pats fans here provide....but this shows that we've been deprived all this time. Come on shark pool Pats fans, step up your game.

What's your point? Do the Packers intentionally change the weather to reduce the air pressure in the footballs?

Yes, that sums it up better than I did.

notice the timing of this news

goodell tries to sneak it in under cover of the arrington story
Vincent: So Roger, when should we release the punishment for Brady and the Patriots?

Goodell: Is there anything going on in the news up in Boston?

Vincent: Looks like they just released Kyle Arrington.

Goodell: Perfect. With humongous news like that, we can release the punishment and it'll be DAYS before anyone up there even gets wind that Brady was suspended.

haters will see this as awesome because they know its excessive.

reasonable people can do nothing but laugh when other teams do the same type of stuff and get warned.
It's the culture of cheating in New England that probably makes the punishment as harsh as it was. This is like getting Al Capone on tax evasion.
I agree with this

Much like Rick James the Patriots appear to be habitual line steppers

Same owner, same head coach, the QB and equipment guys were with the team during spygate.

I don't care what anyone says. Tom Brady is one of the best in football!

Id put him right up there with the lance armstrongs and the Barry bonds of the sports world.

Go pats*

I think everything but the first round pick is more than fair, and Brady's suspension time a little light (I though 8 games, maybe appealed to 4 at best). To me that seems a little much, very similar to Sean Payton being suspended for bountygate (which I didn't agree with at all). At least in this case there was some instance of Kraft not allowing McNally to be interviewed a 5th or 6th time, but it seems to me this should be mostly on Brady.
NFL probably wanted to make the punishment so harsh that anyone involved with the team will think long an hard about what the next consequences will be for further violations. Force a culture change in the org.

The Gr8est

The Gr8est

In the Starting Line-Up

I got to hear the punishment announced on my way home and it was stunning. The local sports talk hosts, central Texas, were focused on on how great it was that Brady will be back, if the suspension holds, in time for his first game to be in Indianapolis against the Colts, the team that turned them in.

So there is a thought about how the rest of the country views this.

As for me, I am almost certainly done with the NFL, I see it just completely illegitimate now. We can say how much we love the Pats and pro football but that is just whistling past the graveyard. This ruling was the killer shot that finally killed the NFL, you can miss what you loved about the NFL but it isn't there any more. It is dead, and you are longing for what it was when it still alive.

That is understandable, but we'll all face reality in our own way. I am already starting the process of mentally separating from it.

The league is a dictatorship with a grudge against the Pats, and how do you thrive in a malevolent dictatorship that is judge, jury, and executioner, when you cannot challenge their rulings. You might kick yourself for ever letting them put you in that position, but that is the reality. The investigation was a farce and there was nothing proven against the Pats or Brady, but the hammer came down regardless. I could point out the discrepancy between punishment leveled against the Pats compared to other similar, or worse, offenses, but we Pats fans are already aware of that. This is more proof of that to clear thinkers but at this point it doesn't matter.

I saw the greatest dynasty, greatest head coach, and greatest QB of all time give me some of my greatest sports memories ever, and I thank them for that, but I will not spend any more of my time, money and energy on the corpse that used to be the NFL any more.

So the league found no proven guilt, and exonerated the schmuck and BB, but still hammered the franchise with the most severe punishment ever; we can only imagine what the penalty would have been if they could actually prove something against the Pats.

My hopes now are that Brady appeals the suspension and ultimately sues the NFL and the whole corrupt enterprise is exposed for what it is. Following that, once Brady has cleared his name I hope he immediately retires from the NFL; the league doesn't deserve having him in it.

I also hope BB resigns as head coach of the Pats and announces that he will never take another job in the NFL. I am sure he would be just as happy coaching a college team like Navy. Like Brady the NFL does not deserve BB.

I'll stick around to see how this all unfolds legally, but unless the legal challenges result in Brady and BB made completely whole, and all stolen draft picks and fines returned (except the 1 million dollars, I don't care about that), then I am done with the NFL.

All NFL records, honors, and accomplishments stop today, there will be nothing legitimate to compare to the past NFL going forward from today if this stands.
It's over, fellas. It was a run.

Become even better at cheating. That started just before superbowl 49.

Don Yee's (Brady's agent) statement:

"The discipline is ridiculous and has no legitimate basis. In my opinion, this outcome was pre-determined; there was no fairness in the Wells investigation whatsoever. There is no evidence that Tom directed footballs be set at pressures below the allowable limits. In fact, the evidence shows Tom clearly emphasized that footballs be set at pressures within the rules. Tom also cooperated with the investigation and answered every question presented to him. The Wells Report presents significant evidence, however, that the NFL lacks standards or protocols with respect to its handling of footballs prior to games; this is not the fault of Tom or the Patriots.

The report also presents significant evidence the NFL participated with the Colts in some type of pre-AFC Championship Game planning regarding the footballs. This fact may raise serious questions about the integrity of the games we view on Sundays. We will appeal, and if the hearing officer is completely independent and neutral, I am very confident the Wells Report will be exposed as an incredibly frail exercise in fact-finding and logic. The NFL has a well-documented history of making poor disciplinary decisions that often are overturned when truly independent and neutral judges or arbitrators preside, and a former federal judge has found the commissioner has abused his discretion in the past, so this outcome does not surprise me. Sadly, today’s decision diminishes the NFL as it tells its fans, players and coaches that the games on the field don’t count as much as the games played on Park Avenue.”
