It seems safe to assume we have probably seen the last of The Deflator on the Patriots sidelines.

As part of the leagues announcement of the punishment of the team and Tom Brady for #DeflateGate, the Patriots admitted that employees John Jastremski and James McNally have been indefinitely suspended without pay by the club, effective on May 6th.

Jastremski was an assistant equipment man with the team, and a full-time employee, while McNally was a game-day attendant for the officials locker room, and the self-described Deflator.

The league announced that neither can be reinstated without league executive vice president Troy Vincents approval, and spells out that: If they are reinstated by the Patriots, Jastremski is prohibited from having any role in the preparation, supervision, or handling of footballs to be used in NFL games during the 2015 season. McNally is barred from serving as a locker room attendant for the game officials, or having any involvement with the preparation, supervision, or handling of footballs or any other equipment on game day.
First one to squeal will get the bigger payday for the interview. ......which one will it be folks.
Brady already set up Swiss bank accounts for both of them.

How does the teflon hoodie escape punishment again??

He should be suspended for 4 games too
Given the Sean Payton punishment how could he not?
I thought Payton tried to cover up Bountygate?

"According to the league, Payton ignored instructions from the NFL and Saints ownership to make sure bounties weren't being paid. The league also chastised him for choosing to "falsely deny that the program existed," and for trying to "encourage the false denials by instructing assistants to 'make sure our ducks are in a row.' "

Don't like the Pats and was glad to see them lose their draft picks.

But just as I constantly railed on last season when they sat Peterson this new thing of just suspending players left and right for enormous chunks of the season is not so much bad for the NFL as it's terrible.

Need to find another way of discipline. We still have months to go before the season and already we are looking at an opener without Bell, Blount and Brady. For smoking pot and arguably knowing about letting air out of a football. This is good for the game? How?

As a fan I only hope this Brady suspension forces the real people that can make this stop into action. Those people are the networks who are seeing their product the product they paid for get diminished.
Gold, Jerry. Gold! :lmao: :lmao:

There is no way in hell this punishment

stands. Brady will miss two games. #Patriots will end up losing a 3rd round pick. Favorite it.
Kraft already stated he wouldnt fight any judgment the NFL handed out.
Yes he did. I don't think he will accept this however.
Add one more to the dishonest list in New England.
Can't trust anyone over there. Owner, Coach, QB, Ballboy. What's next.
I hear Goodell is thinking about investigating Bob Kraft's involvement in Myra's death, he thinks it is a bit suspicious how quickly he started dating young hotties.

The NFL managed before Tommy got here. in fact, it managed for 30 years with the patriots sucking out loud.

It'll survive.
It's not about survival it's about putting the best product out there. The networks did not pay all that money to see players suspended and just hope to survive.
I wonder if anyone will tune in to watch Garrapolo vs. the Steelers in week 1.

By the way, you don't NOT suspend a player because of the networks. You know that, right?
That makes zero sense, you know that, right?
Let me put another way.

The television viewing experience for people for a single nationally televised game should not affect anyone's decision on a punishment.
Well yes it should when that business is entertainment related. Does not mean you don't punish players, means you find another way that does not diminish the product on the field.

I'll watch the opener. Millions will. I can't imagine a single football fan with any knowledge of the game will not at least slightly less excited watching that game then they would be if several marquee players were playing.

It's stunningly difficult to get TV ratings of non-nationally televised NFL games. If someone can find them I'd be curious to know what impact no Peterson had on Vikings games last season versus 2013.

Vikings only had one nationally televised game last season, week 5 against Green Bay. Out of the TNF games telecast by CBS that was the second lowest rated TNF game of the year, only bettering Atlanta vs Tampa.

One game is not a trend so not enough data to make an argument and no matter how you you slice it millions watched. I'm just contending less watched then would if he was playing, just like I think less people will watch when stars like Brady don't play.

It may all seem like minor drops in vieworship at first, but we are still pretty early in this new era of hammering suspensions. More to come and and I still contend each and every major player that is not playing strips a little away from both the product and the vieworship. Again, I don't see how this is good for the game or the fans who support the game. Find another way to administer punishment other than removing the players we want to watch play.

so, how do we get a gauge that's 4 lbs off?

4 lbs seems like a lot when the range you're measuring is 1 pound and 3/10ths of a pound is some great competitive advantage.

that'd be like some guy's breathalyzer reading .39 instead of .07 --- that doesn't seem like it'd work too well.

how often would you guess one of those gauges would be 4 lbs off?

so, we have 3 gauges heard from now -- one is apparently 'correct', one a half pound off, and one 4 lbs off?

what if 2 guys each grab a gauge out of the bag to measure a group of balls and one gauge is 4 lbs off in one direction and the other 4 lbs off in the other direction?

or do you think it's more likely one guy gauges all 24+ balls every week?
You're trying to deflect things teflon boy. The Patriots intentionally deflated the balls and everyone knows it. Everyone that matters that is.
just trying to get a few facts straight on this, and you won't find a sharper group of guys than the shark pool, so I think this would be the place to ask.

think I still have a few unanswered out there if you want to field any of those.
They're beyond irrelevant. Don't you get it?

WEEI looking for the bright side.

- The Pats lost the first game of their super bowl seasons.

- This rests a 39 year QB for the stretch run into the playoffs.

- After Jimmy does well in his first games, they can trade him and get the first round pick back.

Those Pats are always one step ahead I tell ya!
grapeoppolo or brady?

No Brady and Blount? Time to close shop, NFL.
The very first game of the season..the showcase game. Without two of its biggest stars and absolutely a buzz kill for the defending Champs to begin title defense. Tommy it's not that players will be missing from a game, it's this sense that the NFL will try to ballyhoo it like they always do, talk it up like, etc they always do, MA,e it sound like it's an excellent beginning to another awesome season and, it just isn't.

What it is is a watered down version of "only game on" that now has about 40% of the excitement it had...and it's still months away. I usually have to wait for week 3 of TNF to begin that silliness.

I think it would bother me less if the kickoff game was moved to a more exciting match up. As it is, this socks because it's not a true reflection of either team. There's nothing to look forward to. Regardless of who wins, there's an asterisk beside it.

And before anyone calls me a salty hater, yes, yes I am. The Bills haven't made the playoffs in almost 20 years. Along the way they've lost so many close games under ridiculous circumstances. They've missed the playoffs by razor thin margins. Some years they've just been terrible as they church GMs, coaches and QBs. And throughout the whole time, the Patriots kept winning and winning. And everyone talked about how it was because of the "Patriot Way" and how teams like the Bills just didn't know how to win.

And it turns out that they've cheated over and over again. In a league where winning and losing is often determined by inches, or seconds, the Patriots have given themselves illegal advantages over and over. As I watched the Bills lose game after game at the last second, or after a crazy bounce, or after an improbable fumble or interception, the Patriots kept winning close games in the closing moments. And it was all a lie.

As a Bills fan, it's possible that I've been cheated out of watching my team win clutch games against a key division rival, or win a playoff berth, or win playoff games. All because the Patriots were cheating and giving themselves a small advantage in a game where inches truly matter, it's :bs: And we'll never know if the Patriots would have earned all those wins and titles legitimately because they DID cheat. They can't claim they did it legitimately because they didn't, and we'll never know just how good they really were. The Patriots deserve to feel all the misery Bills, Jets and Dolphin fans have felt over the last 15 years. Their achievements are a lie. Their dynasty is a lie.

So yeah, I'm a hater. I hate that the Patriots robbed the Bills of a fair game. I hate that Bills fans were robbed of a potentially different history. And frankly, Patriot fans should hate it too. They should hate that the Patriots cheated and that it puts their entire dynasty in question. Maybe if they hadn't cheated, nothing would have changed. Maybe they would have won every game that they won and put up the exact same statistics and won the same number of Super Bowls. But nobody knows that because they DID. So now other fans can rightfully call into question the whole thing. The Patriots gave us ammo to call into question the whole thing. Instead of being able to celebrate their 4th Super Bowl win, fans have to try to come up with reasons to ignore the cheating, or minimize it, or point out ways other teams cheated, or blame ago dell, etc. The Patriots cheated and now their fans are cheated too.

Stop blaming the NFL, or other fans, or the Colts or Goodell, or whatever. Start blaming the team and player who put their entire achievement into question over a PSI here or there and some film. If it truly didn't make a difference, then they are not only gigantic fools, but screwed over their legacy for themselves and their fans for absolutely no reason at all.
nah, I'll keep brady and the dynasty and you can keep the bills

remember that one game a few years ago where mckelvin, or whoever it was, had that crazy fumble on a return which gifted the pats a miraculous win and you guys were burning hatemail into his lawn?

good times..........#billmcneal

At this point, I just need SWC to come in here and summarize this entire mess in one dense, action packed, dance party of a non-punctuated paragraph. That would make my day.

Robert Kraft: tl;dr

Blah blah blah... window dressing... misdirection... prevarication... we will accept the findings of the report and take the appropriate actions based on those findings as well as any discipline levied by the league.”

Statement from Robert Kraft: “Despite our conviction that there was no tampering with footballs, it was our intention to accept any discipline levied by the league. Today’s punishment, however, far exceeded any reasonable expectation. It was based completely on circumstantial rather than hard or conclusive evidence.

“We are humbled by the support the New England Patriots have received from our fans throughout the world. We recognize our fans’ concerns regarding the NFL’s penalties and share in their disappointment in how this one-sided investigation was handled, as well as the dismissal of the scientific evidence supported by the Ideal Gas Law in the final report.

“Tom Brady has our unconditional support. Our belief in him has not wavered.”

One was more a lockerroom/team issue and had been warned.

The other was more about the lies than the crime.

HTH
If the media would got whipped up to a frenzy over the Saints vicodin cover up, the consequences should have been as bad or worse. There is no reasoning behind these decisions other than appeasing the mob.

So if Brady's suspension is reduced to, say, 2 games on appeal, how angry will all the currently-happy people on this board be? :P

As punishment for the Patriots’ “more probable than not” tampering with footballs, the league has suspended quarterback Tom Brady four games, fined the team $1 million and taken away their first-round picks in 2016 and fourth-rounder in 2017.
Overreact much Goodell. He has to up the ante with every punishment. What will he do next time?
brady will have to fight the lions

Too harsh, IMO.

Brady, I could have seen MAYBE 2 games. I expected a fine of MAYBE $250,000 for NE. Definitely think Goodell over-reached here.

He is obviously trying to send a message, but this was too much. Although the Pats and Brady screwed up by failing to fully cooperate, I don't think it warranted this much.

I don't get it. How can Brady appeal if he is not complying with the investigation?

It's like him saying " I'm totally innocent.... But don't check my phone records or emails ".

That is the one thing that will truly set him free if he complies and is found clean.

It's like getting pulled over and refusing a breathalyzer. Him refusing is not allowing them to prove his innocence too.

85 Bears would be more appropriate.

Not as harsh then. Brady is 4-1 vs the lions.

Stop employing cheaters and you won't have to keep making these statements.

I think he'll probably start with them not proving his guilt.

Then he will calmly explain that he shouldn't have to hand over his personal information and the NFLPA will agree with them, as they have in the past with others.

It will get reduced and everyone will be just as happy. It's not the suspension that we are most happy about. It's the fact that this is yet another blemish on this so called dynasty and it's no longer just a salty hater thing. It was deemed cheating by the league to the extent that it warranted such a harsh penalty. This and spy gate will forever stain their legacy. And there is no way to say it otherwise.

Maybe Barry bonds and lance Armstrong didn't need the extra help. Who knows if it was an advantage or not. We will never know. But like it or not, their names will always be tainted. Along with the patriots.

What does Brady do when the deflator and/or the lackey sit down with one of the hundred reporters that are calling them non stop.
Most people already think Brady did this, and he has been punished already. why care at this point?
Brady says he didn't have anything to do with this. These guys look like they are about to get canned let's see what they have to say. How did they do this, who told them to do it. If fired, maybe they'll want to look into suing for wrongful termination. There are a ton of angles, ton of questions. Every big talk show, sports talk guy, investigative reporter etc has their booking guy calling these guys 10 times a day.

Appealing a suspension is in the CBA. I believe that for the appeals, the player can argue whether the punishment is consistent with the punishment of other similar violations. If it is not consistent, then it can be reduced.

That's why Tagliabue (who heard the Bountygate appeals) threw out the suspension for obstruction. Historically, the league punishes obstruction with a fine, not a suspension.

http://keepingscore.blogs.time.com/2012/12/12/reading-between-the-lines-of-the-bountygate-ruling/

So if any part of Brady's suspension is for obstruction, then it may get reduced.

I know that some people are here just to troll the Patriot fans but this is not a good decision for any team in the NFL. It not like a GM and coach can know and control every player on their roster. All it would take is for one player to emulate Jerry Rice and use stickum. Goodell would have to come down with an iron fist. Say goodbye to your first round pick.
They should be able to control the ball boys.
How much power does a ball boy have compared to an NFL star? If he didn't cooperate, he be picking road apples.
Well, they cooperated, and now they pickin' road apples.
yeah, so much for escaping punishment by cooperating.

brady's out 4 weeks, those guys get their texts ridiculed on the net and lose their jobs

If you have to ask...

I think the evidence shown in the report was enough evidence to put Brady's innocence in question. And not complying is damning him more.

It's like if I was driving the speed limit, straight in line with my seatbelt on. I wouldn't be breathalyzed. But if I was swerving all over the road and stunk like booze they would accuse me of drinking and at that point I would have to prove my innocence not lack of guilt.

In this case Brady stinks like booze. Everything is pointing that he is involved. Him not complying and showing that he was not involved is a major read flag.

This just it. If he was innocent he would have already done this. The fact he did not cooperate is a part of the suspension and fines etc.

The Pats turned over the phones cause they were their's. Kraft assumed it would all be good cause Brady told him there was nothing going on.
