I would be shocked if they actually physically deflated the balls after the 'weigh in", but if this comes out as the case, I'll be the first to admit what they did was wrong.

What if it was the 'hot air' theory? That they filled them with warm air knowing they'd drop before kickoff? If this is the case, for the sake of argument, is this even "illegal"? The rules state balls between the given PSI's must be submitted to the refs (and they were). Is it not the same as a fighter/boxer "weighing in" at the official weigh in at a certain weight, knowing damn well he was going to be a different "technically illegal" weight come fight day?
in a fight, it's not technically illegal to be a different weight than at weigh-in. all that is required is that one make weight at a fixed limit before the event.

There is nothing illegal about it, technically or no.
Right,

Well is it technically illegal for the ball to be a different PSI at kickoff? Or are teams 'required to give balls 2.5 hours prior to kickoff within the proper psi"?

If this really is rampant I feel bad for all the teams that cheat and still suck.

If this isn't rampant I feel even worse for the teams that suck and don't cheat.

It's entertaining watching you guys get apoplectic yet again while I look forward to watching my team in yet another superbowl. I love watching this team. If they're really pumping hot air in the footballs then lol. Actual genius not just football genius imo.
I find it hard to believe it'd be possible to fill footballs full of hot air, but if that's what's going on I guarantee you patricia thought it up

Honestly I'm shocked NE was able to win at all with all this defective equipment.
28-0 in the 2nd half after the refs re-inflated the balls to their proper PSI.

Clearly, the under inflated balls were an unfair advantage to the Colts.

Why isn't that kid-hating, angry drunkard, Kravitz, investigating this angle?
The result doesn't have anything to do with the legality. If you attempt to murder someone by firing a gun and miss, does that mean you're not guilty?
Probably don't want to use murder in any analogy with this.
In fairness, a Patriot has committed murder as well.
Allegedly

I specifically asked why this is a scandal and that wasn't, the two best teams last year were 1st and 2nd in players found guilty of using PEDs. The players were disciplined and that was it.

Through all the #### and bluster its clear that the haters argument comes down to "we aren't haters, this is a systemic problem" - my response to that is, how is this - but not that a systemic problem?
Just a quick check, how many active players on each SB roster had tested positive of PEDs?
I think it was 6 and 4. Might have only been 5 on the active roster for Seattle with Browner inactive I believe. But really, does the number matter?
how many were first offense? if it was second offense was it more severe discipline?
Idk, go ####### look it up yourself. The point remains, its clearly a systemic problem and nothing came of it.
they got disciplined, that is what came of it

:lmao: since spygate all the pats fans wanted was 1 more super bowl win so they could finally shut up those mocking them for not winning since they were caught cheating. Now, they have this. :lmao: just can't catch a break. The Tom Brady/Belichek era is going to forever tarnished. Oof
I think you grossly underestimate the pats and us pats fans

Anyone that doesn't believe this is a much larger issue and "normal operating procedure" for the Patriot's is simply a NE fan.

If it is found that the balls were deflated AFTER inspection then this is clearly cheating. The issue is going to be will the NFL start an investigation that this was the only time the Patriot's deflated the balls? This WASN'T the first time they cheated. It was simply the time they got caught.

It doesn't matter if the game's outcome would or would not be affected by this particular cheating event. If found that the Patriot's cheated under the rules of the NFL, there should be a suspension of at least the Super Bowl for Belichick and, in my opinion, it should also contain a suspension of the ENTIRE 2015 season.

Didn't the NFL suspend New Orleans coach for an entire year after it was found that his defensive coordinator had bounties. It was also discussed by many NFL players that bounties happen in every game all the time, but the NFL threw down the gauntlet.

Time to step up and make an example of the Patriot's here, and suspend Belichick for the Super Bowl and the entire 2015 season.
Buffalo radio was suggesting a Belicheck suspension for the SB also, depending of course on the outcome of the investigation.
shocking.
I know right? It is shocking that the Buffalo market, that has to play a team twice a year, a team with a history of cheating and behaving as if they are above the rules, to want appropriate discipline for their LATEST transgression (that we know of).
They're just lucky the pats sat their starters in week 17.

Comon, one spygate incident (which other teams apparently did) does not mean they have this "MASSIVE HISTORY OF CHEATING!", and this is only their LATEST (THAT WE KNOW OF) in a LONG history of breaking rules.

The exaggeration in here is incredible. Especially by fans of rival teams of the Pats. I'm not even a Pats fan and the juvenile exaggerations are getting out of hand. Just relax and cheer for your team.

Its mostly the "we don't even know what were talking about, but half of us are convinced that the Patriots are literally worse than hitler, while simultaneously giving no #### about much worse #### happening all the time."
Even a son of a ##### like Hitler didn't cheat at the 1936 Olympics when Jesse Owens won the Gold Medal.
and he's a well known loser.

so, really, hitler is a lot like the jets

...

In most cases, you're not breaking the rules if you aren't the Patriots.

The Seahawks had more players found guilty of using PEDs last year than any other team, Broncos the second. Why wasn't that a scandal? Why is this a scandal?
Wes Welker was suspended for adderal this year, which was subsequently removed from the PED list.

Matt Prater was suspended for alcohol stuff this year.

Von Miller was suspended last year for submitting a diluted urine sample, allegedly related to pot.

beyond that, i'm having a hard time finding Broncos suspended for any drug stuff...gotta go back to Kenny Peterson in 2007.

link

I'm not here to say the Broncos are squaky clean, just not sure where you are getting your info on the Broncos being the second highest PED team.

laws of physics dictate the ball be a different PSI at kickoff. That's why it matters what the conditions were when the balls were re-tested.

I'm not a Bills fan, or a fan of any AFCE team. I just live outside Buffalo. And it's not just my exaggeration-I read an article recently (sorry no link) that listed a bunch of stuff-some I had forgotten about (like the home crew cleaning snow covered field for a GW FG for example, forget who they were playing) that the Patriots have done over the years. A pattern begins to appear that's been delineated in the media everywhere.

I never even had a problem with the Pats until relatively recently (3-4 years) and you can thank the Pats fans on this board for that.

ahhh, called out for being wrong and runs from admitting it with the "ya but, cheaters" argument. Typical.

Patriots fans are literally the worst.
Lol i wouldn't go that far.

From my experience they're pretty informed and can intelligently debate and talk sports.

Philly fans are the worst (again, just from my experience).

Refreshing to see the annoyed Pats fans in this thread acknowledging the black eye Belichick has given the franchise and the NFL in recent years regarding these cheating allegations. It's entertaining, though, to watch the mental gymnastics of the "typical" Pats fan, the ones that give the group a bad name, in this thread. Desperately using any excuse and insult they can hurl to defend their precious coach, who's legacy, let's be honest, will be as a conniving cheater. It's a shame, since he really might be a Hall of Fame caliber coach.

But these Pats fans act like the team can do no wrong and has been ultra-succesful. The Calgary Stampeders have won as many Super bowls as the Pats over the last decade. They haven't been the best team in the AFC over that span...or the second best...or the third best...

Not hard really. To get the 2 psi pressure drop you just need air that is 40 degrees warmer than the temperature outside (during the game the temp was around 45. So any room where the heat was say 85 degrees plus would work (a sauna for instance or just an office with the heat cranked up). Then you just pump in air with a hand pump to the correct pressure.

Over time the temperature inside the ball will decrease which will also decrease the pressure of the ball.

Good job*.

and proud. It's a blast rooting for a team that wins all the time. I know I was supposed to be all sad about the patriots losing in 07 but it was like oh by the way, sorry your team didn't win four titles in seven years. Here's a second red Sox championship. And the Bruins and Celtics. I thought bostons run might finally be over and here we are watching another home town team playing for yet another title. It's silly. I'd hate us too if I were you. Go ahead. Post lots of asterisks and tell the world how important proper ball inflation is and always has been for you.

And while we're making this about you, can i just ask, as a jets and giants fan, is it more embarrassing for you to have to root for a second team? Or to keep the jets as one of them? Something fun to ponder while you watch your none good teams in any sport.

This the article?

Honestly that's pretty small. The Snowplow Game was before anyone was involved with the Patriots that's involved now. Everything else has been mentioned in this thread ad nauseam.

Patriots haters are literally the worst. Always looking for the most idiotic excuses to try and discredit the best franchise of the past 15 years.
Fixed :) You Pats haters are quite the funny bunch. You can sit here and cry wolf all you want, but at the end of the day I'll be watching my team compete for yet another Super Bowl, while you sit at home stewing over your Pats hate and how you can't stand us.

You want to talk about "integrity of the game"? You should look to the Colts, who lost on purpose to draft Luck.

I'm a huge, lifelong Red Sox fan. I live in CT. I also like the Whalers and Celtics. I've seen a bunch of championships. I happen to like the NY football teams.

Congrats on the amateur psychology. I hate the Patriots. They were always a joke organization in a joke town. I've admitted that a million times.

Please name the players on Seattle's active roster during the SB 48 that had tested positive for PED use.
or Broncos.
Figure it out
See, I actually knew this off the top of my head. It was one. Bruce Irvin. How many players do the Patriots have on the active SB roster this year that have tested positive for PEDs?
Couldn't tell you, but I'm sure its more than none - and its an actual problem that should be curtailed, but instead were talking about ####### footballs.
Maybe that's why they didn't make a big deal about it. Don't run away from your argument.

Good job*.

It's silly. I'd hate us too if I were you.
yeah, it's pretty crazy what's been going on in boston --- how is this even possible?

did some guy bring a magic goat to a game or something?

every time you turn around somebody's playing for a championship

And while we're making this about you, can i just ask, as a jets and giants fan, is it more embarrassing for you to have to root for a second team? Or to keep the jets as one of them? Something fun to ponder while you watch your none good teams in any sport.

The town of new England is very upset that you feel that way.

Patriot fans are like the cheating ##### bag boyfriend who calls all of his girlfriend's friends #####es because they call him out for his cheating. Like its their fault and they're just jealous, not that he is a cheater.

Blame us for not liking cheaters.

I get it, if it was my team I would like to celebrate in our success and ignore accusations. But don't come on message boards and try celebrating your team. You look foolish. They cheated(if true), and you cant call it anything other than that. The rules were made for a purpose. It doesn't matter if they are dumb rules, or if other teams break the rules. If you broke them you are a cheater. Bottom line

What was the air pressure of the ball involved in the Dez Bryant incomplete pass?

Let's talk for a second about the word "cheating" and how the media affects perceptions.

Last year, the Seahawks won the Super Bowl with more players on their roster caught using performance enhancing drugs than any team in the league (Denver was second).

On the spectrum of cheating, it simply doesn't get much worse than this. But did the media call it Steroid-Gate? Did they once use the word "cheaters" to refer to the Seahawks? Of course not. Because that wasn't the storyline they chose.

Now let's look at what the Patriots are being accused of and why everyone has labeled them cheaters and undeserving of the Super Bowl: They might have let a tiny amount of air out of some footballs - an amount so small that even the refs couldn't notice when handling them. An advantage so negligible, that when the balls were taken out of play, the patriots actually performed better.

At worst, using slightly under-inflated balls without the refs noticing is akin to getting away with a pass interference call.

Ask yourself this - Is it possible for a team to do something any less serious and any more insignificant and still be labelled cheaters? (if you can think of something, let me know, I'm honestly curious)

Add the word "gate" to the most mundane act and it will sound like a scandal. But that doesn't make it a scandal, that's manipulation. And if it were any other team, this wouldn't make a single headline.

Wait, I thought this all started because of the INT Brady threw and the Colts player noticed it was a soft ball?
Yep, back in November. Happened again in the AFC Championship game, that is when someone on the Colts made a stink about it, because it happened twice.

Being a dad should give you the perspective that cheating is cheating and if they are found to have broken the rules that it is wrong of them and winning does not out weigh cheating.
