I believe the NFL's operations manual listed the penalty for under/over inflating a ball was a $25,000 fine.
and a first second and third round pick with suspensions and lifetime bansThe rules must say something about lifetime bans for this, right?
I don't see how you can let Brady be involved in the game if this is proven true. Pete Rose-esque banishment, IMO.

And AIDS. He should be given AIDS.

I'd suspect there's a big difference between over/under inflating the balls before the ref inspects them and doing it afterwards.

AIDS isn't so bad anymore.

But why would you overinflate them at all unless you were trying to gain an advantage outside the defined rules? And, btw, no one has proven the Pats did ANYTHING, whereas Rodgers apparently offered it right up that they have engaged in shenanigans.

There is an astericks next to the rule. It says only if the Patriots are caught.
Yeah, this has been going on for a while now.

Nice job, troll. :bye:

Of course, not disagreeing.

Just suggesting that doing it and presenting them to the ref for his approval might be viewed quite differently from inflating/deflating the balls after the ref approves them and/or the game starts.

There would be no penalty for presenting the balls to the refs for inspection in a state that would not pass. They would either toss the ball or change how it was inflated. In essence, they would not be catching a team doing anything wrong = no penalty.

The story I heard on the radio was that Rodgers would have the equipment guy over inflate the balls and give them to the refs, who would take air out to get them in the accepted range. The story I heard on the radio then claimed that AFTER the ball was inspected the equipment guy would add more air into the ball to over the threshold. Now who knows if the story is true and if that would technically be illegal, as the weather and the two hour wait until kickoff could have resulted in the extra pressure going down and the balls could have been right at the legal limit. And realistically, other than those who are Boy Scouts and insist on following everything to the letter of the law, would there really be that much difference if the ball was 0.1-0.2 PSI over inflated?

For the rules auditors out there, should SEA be penalized if Lynch does not wear official league mandated cleats? How about if they are not the proper color? Technically that is against the rules, so the Seahawks should have to forfeit a frat pick, right?

If it could be shown that the shoes gave the Seahawks an unfair competitive advantage, sure, why not?

The league hopes to conclude its investigation into whether the Patriots illegally deflated balls in Sunday's AFC Championship Game within the next 2-3 days.

"The team is in place in New England now interviewing staff members," were the words of league official Troy Vincent. "We obviously want to get that on the table, get that behind us so that we can really get back to the game itself." The Pats are at risk of losing draft picks if the league determines there was malfeasance. Master that he is, coach Bill Belichick's history of skirting the rules won't earn him the benefit of the doubt.

why do cheating scandals ALWAYS follow the Pats? not the Giants, not the Eagles , not Pittsburgh..the Patriots and Patriots only..where there is smoke there is fire..From breaking the rules on FG attempts that Rex Ryan brought to light in pregame warmups in a game v. Pats in '13, to which the Pats got called for the penalty using that illegal formation..from that to the spygate, to the deflated balls, etc..they cheat.apparently they always have..

its one thing to have someone like LT or Hollywood Henderson allegedly keeping a water bottle mixed with coke on his belt in the Sb, it's entirely different when you actually alter balls, plays, or even tackle eligible plays, or when you spy on your opponents so badly that you're fined HUGE, and lose a draft pick, and the league burns the tapes to save your owners a$$ from retribution..

I love the 'haters gonna hate' clowns in this thread..cheaters gonna cheat, and these Patriot backers who summarily dismiss the 'annoying scandals' are absolutely clueless..the Pats cheat. They get asterisks with every single BB victory..and so does Brady..it's just how it is..

On the lighter side, Bruschi comes out to say the Giants deserved the win vs. Pats in their first SB, saying they were the better team, and that the Pats were an all-time great team..no they're not, they're not even in the discussion..THEY DIDNT WIN ANYTHING!!! it cracks me up that blowhards like Teddy B. make silly comments like that..the Pats team was not an all-time great team, that phrase is reserved for the Giants that beat them twice, or the Aikman Cowboys, Montana and Young Niners, Steelers, etc..

no one will EVER mention the 2007 Pats in the same breath as the '72 Dolphins, or any of these other teams..get off the soap box, Bruschi.it's over.you lost to a better team.period. yours wasnt 'great' it won nothing..

Well, if anything over the past few days, you've proven yourself a clown.

Please tell everybody about how great Mike "McCarty" is for three hours again. That'll be rich.

Does Bountygate count?

For those that are always wanting to bash the Pats, here are some incidents throughout the years that got teams docked draft picks.

  • 2012 New Orleans Saints pay the price for Bountygate, surrendering a pair of second-round picks (2012 and 2013).
  • 2011 Lions forfeit seventh-round pick for tampering with Chiefs players.
  • 2008 49ers forfeit fifth-round pick for tampering with Bears linebacker Lance Briggs.
  • 2008 Patriots forfeit first-round pick for Spygate scandal.
  • 2002-05 Broncos forfeit 2005 third-round pick, 2002 third-round pick for circumventing salary cap between 1996 and 1998.
  • 2001-02 49ers forfeit 2002 third-round pick, 2001 fifth-round pick for salary-cap violations.
  • 2001 Steelers forfeit third-round pick for exceeding 1998 salary cap.
  • 1986 Patriots forfeit third-round pick for illegal use of injured reserve list.
  • 1981 Broncos forfeit third-round pick for contract violations involving Bill Thompson.
  • 1981 Raiders forfeit fifth-round pick for illegally sequestering two players in 1978.
  • 1980 Eagles forfeit third-round pick for holding illegal tryout.
  • 1980 Raiders forfeit fourth-round pick for evasion of player limit.
I don't understand I thought only the Patriots ever get caught doing anything wrong.
In 1970 The Colts were awarded the Miami Dolphins 1st rd pick for Joe Robbie tampering with and basically signing Don Shula of the Colts after talking with Steve Rosenbloom of the Colts. Carroll Rosenbloom was vacationing in the Orient at the time and said Steve Rosenbloom didn't have the authority to negotiate with Robbie. Pretty cheap price for Shula wasn't it?

only one team has even been penalized a first round pick.

The New England Patriots
Guess not

so, this documents that the Patriots are one of a small, but not exclusive group of repeat offenders.

As JohnnyU pointed out this list is incomplete, yes the Patriots are repeat offenders, but in 1986 Kraft didn't own the team. How can you hold that against him and this current version of the Patriots?

My comment was meant to poke fun at the argument, not at the Patriots history itself.

Some folks aren't terribly intelligent.

Opps, sorry. My sarcasm radar is broken!

I'm wondering if there is any repercussions for a team accusing another of wrong doing that is found innocent? If there isn't then I can see a trend here with teams making filing complaints just to get back at rivals. I'd love to see BB toss out a different allegation at every game next year, win or lose.

He could start with the grass not being the correct length, crowd noise being pumped in by the home team, the opposing team using stick em on their gloves, the scoreboard operator not running the play clock correctly, etc. The possibilities are endless. He would have nothing to lose and could give the league a different mess to deal with every week. This is almost as big of a joke as the injury report.

I have a feeling the drunk broad that Wilfork pulled out of the car is a key figure in the deflating of the footballs, my gut tells me the NFL will make the connection soon.
