The HeadSmart experiment and some work I've seen from a highly respected MIT guy on another site show pretty conclusively that the ball pressure can change up to 2 psi due to atmospheric conditions. I haven't seen one experiment conducted yet that disproves this, and I'd love to see it if someone can find it. All I've heard to the contrary are overblown (pun intended) slight of hand opinions from guys like Bill Nye that focus only on disproving a certain part of BB's story (ie - friction can't cause a significant change in air pressure).

We don't know yet that the balls were measured pregame. So if Indy inflated the balls to 13.5 then a 1 psi drop due to atmospheric change would still keep them within range when measured at halftime.

Felger and Mazz had a great interview with Mike Westoff, the old Special Teams Coach for the NY Jets, and one of is chief rivals over the years. As much as I dislike the Jets, I have to admit this guy sounded like a very credible guy when it comes to talking about BB. He said a lot of interesting things about BB pushing the envelope over the years. He was very matter of fact about it and told some great stories about former Pats players coming over, etc. In short, the crux of his belief is that BB pushes the envelope right up to the edge, but that he doesn't do anything egregious or out of the ordinary, he just does it better and it is therefore more obvious. Most interesting, he stated pretty emphatically that he doesn't believe the Pats tampered with the balls. He believes Belichik, which I thought was interesting and noteworthy.

You guys are all knowledgeable football fans. The crap BB does has been going on for decades. In the late 80's the Giants played the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game at San Fran. As you know Bill Walsh used to script and rehearse the first 15 plays, so that no signals had to be called in from the sidelines. When the 49ers got the ball the first time, Walsh told the refs that his headset wasn't working, which meant that the Giants had to stop using their headsets as well and couldn't call in plays to the defense. San Fran marched down the field and scored easily. Parcells confronted Walsh after the game about it and said, "If you ever do that #### again I'm going to call you out on it". Walsh paused, then slyly remarked, "Just a little gamesmanship Bill".

The initial report was that the 12 backup balls were used. But late last week another report came out saying that the original 12 Pats balls were re-inflated and that's what was used the 2nd half.

As you know Bill Walsh used to script and rehearse the first 15 plays, so that no signals had to be called in from the sidelines. When the 49ers got the ball the first time, Walsh told the refs that his headset wasn't working, which meant that the Giants had to stop using their headsets as well and couldn't call in plays to the defense. San Fran marched down the field and scored easily. Parcells confronted Walsh after the game about it and said, "If you ever do that #### again I'm going to call you out on it". Walsh paused, then slyly remarked, "Just a little gamesmanship Bill".

That's all fine and dandy. But it was BB who stood in front of the mic on Saturday and arrogantly stated how the Pats never do anything to cross or even approach the line.

The issue of whether or not it was a sting is the most fascinating and perplexing part of this story. If it was a sting, you would think they'd have measured and marked each ball pregame so they could have an apples to apples comparison at halftime. You'd also think they would have watched the ball boy like a hawk and seen him inflating the balls, unless of course he did that in the Pats locker room en route to the field. You'd also think the refs would have videotaped both the pregame and halftime gauge measurements.Of course we are also assuming the NFL is capable of all of the above intelligent actions. That might be the worst assumption of all.

There's a difference I think between using new eligible linemen in a completely legal formation, and using a new formation on kick offs as they did a few years ago against the Jets that generated controversy, versus pushing the envelope by tampering with footballs. I believe BB does the former. I don't believe he does the latter.As stated above, if I find out otherwise, then he should be fired, tarred and feathered.

Oh sorry, I've been busy. I'm still being arrogant and laughing at the haters. Belichick's conference was the nail in the coffin. The NFL won't find anything and I doubt there'll be as much as a $25,000 fine.
