If the Patriots and their fans wanted the benefit of the doubt when ANYTHING shady even looks like it MIGHT be going on, they shouldn't have gotten busted for Spygate and been forced to pay the biggest fine and penalty for cheating in the history of professional sports. Tell me that others did it too and that it wasn't a big deal, but in the end, if it didn't help they wouldn't have done it and if it was wrong they wouldn't have paid the price they did.

It's been anything but a model franchise and skepticism by everyone else is the price you pay when you get caught.

The NFL was always going to have a hard time proving anything. My best guess at this point is that the Patriots do what they do to the balls knowing full well they end up lower than the legal limits and that's what Tom likes. They're detailed enough with how they plan things out that it's insulting for them to say they don't monitor that stuff. Can it be proven? Of course not, so they're safe from that, and it's looking less and less likely that anyone physically did anything to the balls. But all of this is probably going to result in rule changes about how balls are prepared and tested before (and during) the game, that's almost a certainty.

Is that intent to get around the rules? Who knows, everyone will judge that differently and if they get in trouble with the NFL, that's probably what it'll be about. And it doesn't matter if others do it, it matters who got caught doing it. But that's what the Patriots do... they push the envelope any way they can to get an advantage, and some (especially players it seems if pregame shows are any indication) feel it's a shady way to operate a franchise.

In the eyes of their fans, Bill and Brady can do no wrong and if I were a fan of theirs, I'd probably see it that way too. But public perception is very different.

Good lord, umm yes, just like they changed the rules about steroids when they found the Steelers were cheating.

It was ok when the Steelers let 2 PSI out of the football (after the refs checked them), but one NE bal (the 1 the colts handled) is 2 psi under the rest 1 psi or less many just a few ticks under and they are cheaters.

When Bradshaw said the Steelers did that in the70's, it was widespread across the NFL (which he did point out) and both teams used the home team's footballs. They beat the snot out of the footballs to make them easier to grip. You and ROCKET need to get a room a discuss that stuff. And steroids were in every locker room in the 70's - the Steelers definitely took part though, and it was a completely different NFL culture.

This wasn't a witch hunt at all. When a team with a history of cheating and is found to be p.laying with illegal footballs, it was and is worthy of an investigation no matter what it turns up. We don't even know that yet. And the Patriots didn't get the benefit of the doubt because of their history. They didn't deserve it from anyone. I (like a TON of other people) believe it was another way the Patriots were pushing the envelope... not necessarily illegal, just playing within the rules and finding a loophole to get an advantage. Whatever that is, it is.

And yeah, most people believe there's going to be rule changes coming and more strict monitoring of the footballs.

There's nothing that the Patriots have accomplished that any Steelers fan would ever be jealous of, my friend. The Patriots have 3 Super Bowl titles obtained under the cloud of Spygate, and a very talented coach and QB whose reputations have been tarnished by cheating. LOL yeah, jealousy. The Steelers have 6 championships, steroids are never really mentioned outside of a few Patriots fans who see that as a way to justify whatever the Patriots have done, and have won twice in the past 9 years.

The NFL has been investigating the Atlanta Falcons' use of artificial crowd noise in the Georgia Dome over the past two seasons, sources told ESPN.

The team could face stiff penalties if the NFL determines that they pumped fake crowd noise at the Georgia Dome.
The offense is expected to result in discipline, with the Falcons being fined and quite possibly losing a draft choice, according to sources.

"We were informed during the season that the league office is looking into crowd noise during our games," a Falcons team spokesman said. "We have cooperated fully with them, and we're awaiting the outcome."

Atlanta has been accused of piping in the noise while the opposing team was huddling, trying to call its play. Some around the league have argued that silent counts have rendered crowd noise more irrelevant, and it's difficult to discern how much of an advantage it gave the Falcons.

The Falcons went 3-5 at the Georgia Dome this season and were blown out there by the Panthers, 34-3, in Week 17 with the NFC South Division title on the line.

But to suggest that the Patriots have imbued a culture of cheating while the Broncos have been choirboys is disingenuous. For example . . .

- Reports of speakers in linemen's helmets by a former player

- Fines and personnel firings for videotaping a 49ers walkthrough in 2010

- Twice getting fined almost $1 million and twice losing third round draft picks for violating salary cap rules

- Von Miller getting suspended for trying to cheat on a drug test

- Wes Welker getting suspended (admittedly probably should not have been)

- Matt Prater, D.J. Willims, Ryan McBean, and Virgil Green getting suspended for violating substance abuse rules

- Getting accused of privacy violations last year by the FTC

- Having suspensions for team executives for their own DUI issues

It hasn't even been proven that under inflated footballs reduce fumbles. It's only been asserted. Are you going to use those studies to both prove deflated footballs reduce fumbles and that the Patriots deflate footballs?

The video taping part - that was done by a former Patriot, was a primary reason he was fired, and he is no back with the Patriots so that one I'd on NE too, ad far as I'm concerned.

To be clear up front, I am of the mindset that many teams have tried to get a competitve advantage and border on breaking the rules, so TO ME these things are not that big a deal. But to suggest that the Patriots have imbued a culture of cheating while the Broncos have been choirboys is disingenuous. For example . . .- Reports of speakers in linemen's helmets by a former player

- Fines and personnel firings for videotaping a 49ers walkthrough in 2010

- Twice getting fined almost $1 million and twice losing third round draft picks for violating salary cap rules

- Von Miller getting suspended for trying to cheat on a drug test

- Wes Welker getting suspended (admittedly probably should not have been)

- Matt Prater, D.J. Willims, Ryan McBean, and Virgil Green getting suspended for violating substance abuse rules

- Getting accused of privacy violations last year by the FTC

- Having suspensions for team executives for their own DUI issues

- Joe Mays getting suspended for an illegal hit

- Shanahan playing with in game injury reports that were not even close to accurate

If the Patriots had done all that, they would be REAMED. Again, I personally don't care. But the bottom line is teams don't roster all "A students" and Eagle Scouts. And teams try to get away with what they can.

It seems there was just 1 ball at under 2 psi, the one the Colts intercepted and had on their sidelines.....

The rest all appear to be less than a pound under with many just a few ticks off.

The outlier is the Ball the Colts had access to, how many times did they stick a gauge in it, how much air did they let out of it either intentionally or unintentionally

That's what I mean. It seems weird that a team would allow its balls to be all of the place at the get-go. According to BB, the team has a process for preparing their footballs. You'd think that would produce a consistent level of inflation across all 12 of them.

I love that two weeks into this ridiculous situation, you guys are annoyed by Pats fans defending the team against allegations that most likely will result in nothing.

At this point, I think it highly unlikely that the NFL has proof that that patriots deflate their balls. That doesn't mean they don't do it, it means the NFL simply won't be able to prove it. It also means that the league will monitor Patriot footballs very closely from here on out.

As for me, I will be operating under the assumption that the Patriots have been doing this since 2007. I'm just glad they won't be getting away with it any more.

If the Patriots and their fans wanted the benefit of the doubt when ANYTHING shady even looks like it MIGHT be going on, they shouldn't have gotten busted for Spygate and been forced to pay the biggest fine and penalty for cheating in the history of professional sports. Tell me that others did it too and that it wasn't a big deal, but in the end, if it didn't help they wouldn't have done it and if it was wrong they wouldn't have paid the price they did.

It's been anything but a model franchise and skepticism by everyone else is the price you pay when you get caught.

The NFL was always going to have a hard time proving anything. My best guess at this point is that the Patriots do what they do to the balls knowing full well they end up lower than the legal limits and that's what Tom likes. They're detailed enough with how they plan things out that it's insulting for them to say they don't monitor that stuff. Can it be proven? Of course not, so they're safe from that, and it's looking less and less likely that anyone physically did anything to the balls. But all of this is probably going to result in rule changes about how balls are prepared and tested before (and during) the game, that's almost a certainty.

Is that intent to get around the rules? Who knows, everyone will judge that differently and if they get in trouble with the NFL, that's probably what it'll be about. And it doesn't matter if others do it, it matters who got caught doing it. But that's what the Patriots do... they push the envelope any way they can to get an advantage, and some (especially players it seems if pregame shows are any indication) feel it's a shady way to operate a franchise.

In the eyes of their fans, Bill and Brady can do no wrong and if I were a fan of theirs, I'd probably see it that way too. But public perception is very different.

I don't think I've ever disclosed this, but I grew up in the 70's and the Steelers were my favorite team during that period. Given the ridiculous opinions expressed by Steeler fans regarding the Patriots the past two weeks, I'm about ready to renounce my Steeler fandom. Just not at all well informed, and not at all befitting one of the best dynasties in football history.
