I don't remember poasting that
who knows? They stay hot, who knows. they've been there before. Bellichick know how to win the big one.my money, in the AFC, is on the Chargers. they have the hot hand, can they keep it up?i think the NFC is WIDE OPEN.It feels like people are starting to write them off, but it's looking to me like they've got another one in them. They've been pretty good this season, other than the Saints embarrassment. They did go into Indy and outplay the Colts. The real question is, if not the Pats, who?The Colts will either crumble from the pressure of trying to go undefeated or (much more likely) be destroyed by NOT trying to.The Chargers? Last I checked, they are still coached by Norv Turner. The Vikings? They are coached by Childress and have a 40 year-old QB that has 3 playoff wins over the past 12 years. The Saints? Only knock on them is the Saints winning would be just too perfect. It would be awesome to see Brees and the Saints get a ring, thus it can't happen. The Bengals? See Saints. The Packers? I'd love to see that too, but their signature wins are the Cowboys and Ravens. 9 wins isn't that impressive when 6 of them came against Detroit, Cleveland, STL, Chicago.I like the Ravens and Broncos, but neither has the look of a legit contender.Strangely, the only 2 teams I can't completely write off are the Eagles and Cowboys. One's headed by an inaccurate QB that threw up in the SB and the other is coached by Wade Phillips (Can't write them off b/c I'm not sure Wade doesn't have a "Coughlin" in him).Given the landscape, I think the Pats' chances look pretty good.

I cannot remember a time when we have had two teams in each conference with records similar to that of the Saints and Colts and have heard comments like this as frequently as we have. I'm not saying it's not accurate, but it seems peculiar.I think the AFC and NFC is wide open. Should make for a great post season.![]()
As great as the Colts have been this year, the two teams that I have to believe the Chargers would least like to see in the playoffs again are the Patriots and the Steelers.I'm split on the Pats being better off as the # 3 or # 4 seed. I think Indy is going to be flat that first playoff game after resting their players so I would have a lot of confidence with the Pats as the # 4 seed going into Indy and knocking them off. However, they probably have to go to SD and beat the Chargers at some point so maybe they are better off being the # 3 in case Indy loses to Cincy (or another team) and that way they would host the AFC Championship. The more that I'm thinking about it that would seem to be the most plausable way for them to make the SB as winning back to back on the road to INDY/SD would be a tall task.
before the jax game I think I heard some stat about the pats having the greatest differential in plays run, but all that stuff is really just bs.basically, the question becomes whether a team is competitive with the top teams, and at that point all the stuff in the past doesn't matter, and all that counts is how you execute on a given day.I think a little too much is made over small sample sizes, a game here or there, or some random play.if faulk gets a couple more inches to convert, beating the colts, does anybody's chances to win in the future really change at all?the pats have played baltimore, denver, and the colts --- 3 of the better afc teams, and they've all been pretty close games.who wins these future matches will be decided in the future on the field.for those who pick san diego as the team to beat, I know a lot of people felt the same way in '06, and even some in '07, believe it or not.just bear in mind, the pats have been without some key starters on both lines these past few weeks, so it's possible they'll be a little stronger in the playoffs than they've been lately. After this weeks games tale a look at the PF and PA rankings. They aren't as bad as some may think.
I tihnk you're jumping to a number of conclusions based on - well, nothing.I dislikje the Colts resting Manning and Co yesterday, but I still think they easily handle NE if they meet in the playoffs. The Chargers are startign to peak. I think they could beat NE AND Indy right now.Vikes seem a bit in disarray, but they match up well against NE, it could go either way.Saints I think beat NE handily.Bengals and Pack, probably not.I really don't see NE as a sure thing in the playoffs. It feels like people are starting to write them off, but it's looking to me like they've got another one in them. Nah they're not even close to a sure thing. Do they have the experience in big games? Of course, but there are a few really solid teams in the AFC playoffs this year. It should be fun in both conferences.I tihnk you're jumping to a number of conclusions based on - well, nothing.I dislikje the Colts resting Manning and Co yesterday, but I still think they easily handle NE if they meet in the playoffs. The Chargers are startign to peak. For some perspective, the Seahawks beat Jacksonville 41-0 this year. The team that played today can beat anyone in football; whether that team shows up for four quarters consistently in the playoffs who knows.

Pats seem like a team that dominates bad teams (TEN, BUF, JAX, ATL, CAR), competes with medium strength teams (NYJ, BAL, MIA) and can't beat the good teams (IND & NO).If you look over their schedule, in hindsight it's a very week schedule, not too many good teams on it.I agree with everything you posted. The Patriots would be very lucky to win a single playoff game. There is no way they go to S.D. or Indy and win this season. Their defense simply isn't good enough.P.S. I am also a lifelong Patriots fan.As a lifelong Pats fan, I can tell you with near certainty that they don't have it in them this year. Something drastic would have to happen for this to fall into place. Their offense has sputtered all year long, for a wide variety of reasons. Prior to the season beginning, I think a lot of people thought that with Brady back, it would be 2007 again. Not so. His accuracy is not what it was. Is it his ribs? His finger injury on his throwing hand? The defense was said to be in horrible shape and for the first half of the year they seemed to play over their heads. The poor defensive line has exposed the weak secondary though. The line couldn't generate a rush if there was a chest with $10 million sitting there for the taking. They were at a point where they woulda, shoulda beat the Colts earlier this season, but now I'd be surprised if they can win more than 1 playoff game.
based on what? on ### kicking of a terrible Jax team? He hasnt looked that good recently besides that game IMOTom Brady is heating up at the most opportune time.
The Jags aren't a great team, but terrible? Not a terrible team at all.based on what? on ### kicking of a terrible Jax team? He hasnt looked that good recently besides that game IMOTom Brady is heating up at the most opportune time.
Not terrible, but not very good, either. They had an easy schedule. I mean, they got drilled on the road by the hapless Seahawks, needed OT to beat the 1-14 Rams at home, and also barely beat teams like Kansas City and Buffalo at home. The Jags aren't a great team, but terrible? Not a terrible team at all.based on what? on ### kicking of a terrible Jax team? He hasnt looked that good recently besides that game IMOTom Brady is heating up at the most opportune time.
terrible team that gave the Colts all they could handle
I can see the Pats knocking off anyone cept maybe SD. I think they WALLOP Indy if they get a second crack at them. The Jags and Colts always play close games; that happens a lot with divisional games, even when one team is much better than the other in a given year. Heck, the 49ers beat the Cardinals twice this year. And the 5-11 Jags beat the 12-4 Colts once last year (at Indy no less), so yeah, I wouldn't read too much into the Jags and Colts playing two close games in a way that makes the Jags better than they really are.terrible team that gave the Colts all they could handle
so you're writing off the Chargers, huh? dismissing Turner as a lousy coach? c'mon now, he's had his bad moments but he is a very, very good coach..Chargers are on a roll, and can beat anyone left in playoffs...they one team you don't want to play at this moment , is San Diego...Can't write off the Bengals or GB..It feels like people are starting to write them off, but it's looking to me like they've got another one in them.

And they were one 4th and 2 conversion away from beating your team so what does that say?If anyone is counting on a New England Super Bowl this season, they must be on crack or watching games from the 2007 season. This current team will never be confused with a Super Bowl team.

That the Patriots are not very good at winning very close games this year? In games decided by four points or less this year, the Patriots are 1-3; the Colts are 7-0. I'm curious. What at all would lead you to believe that the Colts can handle ANYONE easily let alone the Patriots who kicked their ### up and down the field the whole game. You dont think the Pats want another shot at the Colts? If you're arguing that one game proves that beating Jacksonville is inherently meaningless, then you're truly an idiot. Did you even watch the game you are commenting on? I suspect not. As to your other comment about record, studies suggest that point differential and other more sophisticated approaches than W/L have more predictive value. Does that make the Pats a great team right now, by itself? Certainly not; they have a lot of questions. However, I think saying things like 'better teams generally win' adds nothing to the discussion and is not of any value in trying to project forwardFor some perspective, the Seahawks beat Jacksonville 41-0 this year. The team that played today can beat anyone in football; whether that team shows up for four quarters consistently in the playoffs who knows.

FYP.To be a little fair to the OP - this was before all of the receivers for NE Wes Welker got banged up.
