Maroney

G Att Yds Avg Lg TD

ARTIFICIAL 3 31 188 6.1 41 2

GRASS 7 107 389 3.6 27 1

Dillon

ARTIFICIAL 3 34 119 3.5 17 3

GRASS 7 87 391 4.5 50 4

Pats put down new Turf field

Dilllon's avg is a full yard less per carry on Turf

Maroney's avg is a 2.5 yards per carry better on Turf

Plus Dillon wore a red jersey this week in practice ... Could this be the week Maroney establishes himslef as The Back?

Possibly, you can bet we'll see alot of running out of the Pats.

However, Id be willing to bet moreso on next week at home against the Lions as Maroney's coming out party.

I don’t understand why people keep making comments/predictions/prognostications about when an RB becomes the sole/primary back?

It's not just you and it’s not just with the Pats but I just don't know why so many people have a hard time comprehending that this two headed monster IS the Patriots' running game.

They have two great backs that get to feed off each other, both with a different running style and both effective. It is working out well for them so I wouldn’t expect to see any changes.

This is a situation that has worked well for so many other teams so it might just be a new trend. Other teams that are mixing it up are all doing well on the ground; Atlanta, New England; Dallas, and Denver (previous years more then this one) and this is just off the top of my head so don't quote me.

I don't understand anyone who follows football thinks Maroney will be their feature back this year unless Dillon is injured and can't play. Come on people.

Of course things could change if Maroney averages 6.1 yards a carry and dillon 3.5

Why did the Pats change to a Turf feld knowing that Dillon is old, beatup and less effective on turf?

Well said. Quite simply, this is why RBs like LT and LJ will always be drafted at the top of the draft.

Maybe the grass maintenance during the winter was too much of a pain in the ### for the stadium operators and in consultation with the Pats team decided to switch it.

Seems like the new turf will benefit Brady more than anyone else. Have you seen his home/away splits? Pretty incredible. With that torn up middle of the field, Brady can't dance his way out of trouble and his jersey has been getting awfully muddy.

All the other events at Gilette Stadium has taken its toll on the field and it has just been in terrible shape all year. The Rolling Stones played there a few weeks ago and really roughed up the turf and between the Pats and other events, it has never been able to recover. I am guessing that the Pats think that turf is better then the terrible field that they have been playing on all year.

Is this artificial surface permanent, or just some sort of emergency measure for the rest of the season? Will they go back to grass next year?

From what I understand, this is just for this season. I am not sure what the intent is for next year but I do know that this was a reaction to the terrible condition of the field this year.
