Pats sign TE -- Watson owners worried? (1 Viewer)

The Pats signed Stephen Spach yesterday. Reports are unclear as of yet how he fits with team plans.

I hear the Pats have lost faith in Brady and will be starting Spach at QB this weekend.

Apparently, he's really good in windy conditions.

He's a blocking TE. If they need to go to 3 TE sets this weekend and pound the ball, I'm sure he might see 3-5 snaps.

edit: This really just makes me think RG Stephen Neal is still hurt and Russ Hochstein will play at RG this weak. Sometimes they will have Hochstein play as a third TE. Also they have used OT Ryan O'Callaghan as a third TE. I wouldn't worry about it as a Ben Watson owner.

Watson owners should not be worried about the signing of another body to play tight end. But they should be worried by Watson's ankle injury that will probably land him as questionable on today's injury report. I will see what the prognosis is for him this week and report back later today.

Watson owners need to worry about his inability to hand onto the ball when it's thrown his way. He makes a lot of drops, Prior to the dropsies, his issue was fumbles. Incredible physical specimen who doesn't do the little things, He could be an elite te in this league, I honestly think he's afraid of the contact and focuses on that instead of catching/holding the ball.

Worry about this signing, when they lost David Thomas earlier this season? Not at all.

I'm surprised the Pats don't run Vrable as a TE. He's got skillz. He would be the first 2 way player since way back.... yeah.... Troy Brown.

"My guy" (who has not been wrong all season) thinks Watson will play Sunday (even though the injury report will likely list him as questionable).

I'm a Watson owner and I'm not worried because I put him on my bench weeks ago. He's like the 4th option on the Pats then when they do throw to him - it's 50/50 whether he catches it.

There - that should help him go off this week. :pics:

Unless your guy is Yudkin, I'll wait for his reply.
Anarchy 99 = Yudkin, no?
I must not have gotten the memo. ;)
Yes Yudkin = Anarchy and vice versa. I'll put you in the CC list for memos from now on. That was my old board name from many moons ago.

David, what's your gut on how involved Watson will be if he plays? Should owners without a comparable option start him if he suits up, or is it a better idea just to play it safe with a lower-tier guy?(I won't say who to avoid the WDIS :own3d: )

I am hoping Watson plays as I sat T.Scheffler! AAAGGHH! He went off for 100 and a TD! Doesn't it seem like you always pick the wrong weeks to start your players? It almost seems like having more than one good option in FF makes life really hard.

I would be if I hadn't traded him away for Shockey

Watson's recovery has been slooooow thus far, but he might still be good for 50 and a possible score if the passing game is working alright.

One bad cut on a slippery field and owners could be hurting. I think this (along w/ the past few weeks games) means more love for Welker and Gaffney.

Maybe the weather will cause brady to shorten up his passing game? If so, and if watson is playing. Then he may see better numbers because of it.

Here's how Watson has done since Week 5 . . .1-28-0DNP DNP 2-10-03-43-13-17-0 2-26-04-33-0Watson has hardly been lighting it up of late. He also has has some struggles with drops, and playing in either a blizzard or monsoon today likely won't help any.I think he'll play because they are thinat TE and need him on the field to run some of the packages they run on offense. But I would be a bit surprised to see him do anything earth shattering today. Not knowing you your other options makes it tough to compare, but IMO Watson is a marginal option this week.

One thing that would be good to know is what teams tend to move towards a cover-2 to take out a stud WR leaving the #2 or TE open for more looks. The game I wish I would have know this info about was when the Lions played the 'Boys and Detriot (according to the announcers) used a cover-2 scheme on TO opening up Witten for a monster day. I think alot of times a TE having a "good" day is determined by the defensive coverages and the linebacker/safety who would get the TE in coverage. I actually went with Schefler in one of my leagues over Watcon (have Watson in 2 leagues from reading Joe's preseason article) due to the "uncertain" of Watson and waivers being locked on Thursday. But that good move was negated with TJ's poor showing last nite. I couldnt find a beter option than Watson in my other league so I am starting him today against the Brady owner so it would be nice for Watson to grab a couple of Brady's TDs

Any news on Watson? Boston Globe said he participated in practice today but was limited. Thursday lineups are looming so any inside news {hint: Yudkin} appreciated!

Yudkin here. Probably will be a game time decision again. Bad weather again would likely = inactive. He hasn't been worth starting fantasy wise for weeks, so I would look elsewhere unless you have really putrid options.

Thanks, yeah I am looking at McMichael as my putrid alternative and need to activate him by Thurs. Pickups closed 2 weeks ago. Oh well, decisions, decisions. Thanks again!

Patriots Inactives; TE Watson Out

Michael Fabiano, NFL.com

New England Patriots

Inactives: QB Matt Gutierrez (3rd QB), WR Chad Jackson, DB Rashad Baker, FS James Sanders, G Steve Neal, G Billy Yates, WR Troy Brown, TE Benjamin Watson.

TE Kyle Brady will see more active in the absence of Watson, who is listed as inactive
...and what of Spach I wonder?

That was last week's inactive list and has nothing to do with this week. Kyle Brady got hurt in the game agains the Jets. Here was the Pat's injury report from yesterday:

Did Not Participate in Practice

G Billy Yates (foot)

TE Kyle Brady (foot)

Limited Participation in Practice

G Stephen Neal (shoulder)

TE Benjamin Watson (ankle)

Full Participation in Practice

QB Tom Brady (right shoulder)

My bad... Thanks.

Same deal as last week. Questionable on the injury report . . . game time decision . . . poor weather . . . probably means he won't play.
