Paying respect to another owner (1 Viewer)

Wanted to take a moment and pay some respect to the best fantasy football owner I have known. He goes by the name of Lott’s Fingertip here on the FBG message board.

A bit of background: I have played in many leagues with various formats with him so it’s not just redraft or dynasty that he dominates in.

In our first league (redraft) he won the championship something like 6 out of 9 yrs. Hard to remember the exact amount because it was pre MFL and I don’t have the records.

We then started a dynasty league in which he has been in the superbowl 6 out of the first 9 yrs with a good chance of being there again this year. He’s only won 2 of those superbowls.

In the next dynasty league that we started he was in the first 2 superbowls winning 1 and was in the hunt the other 2 years. He’s in the hunt again this year.

I just think it incredible the way he has the ability to maintain his teams throughout the years.

I have others owners that have impressive resumes as well but nothing compared to his.

So does anyone else have a similar experience with a fantasy owner?

Some people really know what they are doing and some people have luck on their side almost constantly. Sounds like the guy you're talking about has both.

There's a guy in one of my leagues that has won it the last 3 years. He's in 1st and had a bye so he's in the semifinals right now. One win away from the championship. He's middle of the road in points scored and dead last by a solid 80 points in points against. I could rabble all day about how lucky he is and has been the past 3 years but I'd rather not. He's a decent drafter and manager, but more just lucky.

When I first started playing IDP there was a guy named Ray that played in our league for the first two years. Won the league both years and then had life issues that caused him to leave.

Two years isn't an eye-catching run of dominance or anything in itself but it was clear, had he stayed he would have had this type of run.

When I think of good/great teams that I have encountered, I think of Ray and his teams. He was a great owner, classy, and had great teams. I think I learned most of what I know about dynasty teams from watching him kick my teeth in those early years and how he built and maintained his roster. And I guess there was something to it because my own team has now had a good run in itself.

I've seen other teams do great things over the years: win their division for 5-6 years straight, go to 3 or 4 straight title games but fantasy playoffs are so squirly and unpredictable, I've never seen a team actually win a league for 3 or more years in a row. Maybe that's a statement that the league is competitive. Maybe for people who play in leagues where someone dominates, maybe its a statement that the league is not that competitive. i don't know. I guess that is subjective.

But either way, I think we can all recognize the great owners when we see them. Ray was mine, so far.

Years ago I used to be in the No Mercy leagues. When I got out of the business I gave up my No Mercy team to my good friend Steve that had recently got hooked to fantasy football. Over the past four years he's accumulated the best overall record and scored the most points. Each year he's moved up leagues until now he's in the Great White league. He's even been blessed with being a commish for one of the under leagues. The team name is Evolution.

For those not in the know, the No Mercy leagues are composed of the elite and people that work in the business. Its a group of 8 leagues that you move up or down in from year to year depending on how your team performs.

In my 17 year old league, I've won the most championships and have been considered the best owner of the bunch. About 8 years ago, a friend of ours joined and has been quite the shark. He has consistently been a high seed in the playoffs and is always making shark moves. Heck, hes probably a FBG for all I know.

There have been grumblings that he's overtaken me as the top dog of the league, even though I've won more championships then he has since he joined out league (3-2). He has been dominating the regular seasons lately and i've always seemed to be #2 in scoring or W-L records. So while those grumblings definitely irk me, I cant help but respect the guy for bringing his A game.

We have yet to meet in the championship game but came close numerous times. Here we are in the semi-finals and like clock work, he's the #1 seed and I'm the #2 seed. Hopefully we can get the dream matchup once for all

You do realize there are at least two constants in your leagues, him and you. So is he really that good or ...

Frank-N-Beans is not just a top shelf franchise that always conducts itself with dignity and grace but it also makes a d*mn fine Friday evening meal.

I don't think there is anything creepy abt this thread at all... There is one owner in particular in my main dynasty league who somehow always seems to be able to get a lot out of very little in his trade offers and he is so stinking frustrating to debate with because he brings just enough truth to the argument to make his points seem plausible even though to an outsider his pts would seem absolutely ridiculous... He has just enough influence in the league to get what I wld call unfair value in trades and even though he always tends to "win" the trades easily it seems the other owners still deal with him... Our league is only 3 yrs old but he remains in contention with top pts & record every yr

Thanks, Dad! It is always nice to earn a father's respect! ;)

I've never really had an owner dominate in any of my leagues but in my old league I'd like to pay respect to the Purple Haze. I had never even met the guy, but he is the only one Ive ever played against who rivaled me in smack talk. Me being from New Jersey and him from upper New York State we had a ton of ammo to throw at each other. He actually ended up having a stroke and had to quit the league. After his departure the league was no longer the same and I eventually left.

His game has become easy, there is no pressure they are even playing on house money.

I would like to pay respects to the owners that are consistently high scoring teams but have no luck. They make the playoffs every year and yet never win.

They show up at the draft and still pay all the money know more than everyone and play real hard but yet never win the big prize.

Without them (me), there is no "Fingertip".
