I was at an event this morning and ran into my friend Mickey Spagnola, Dallas Cowboys beat writer. He said some in the Dallas organization have stressed the need to add young depth at QB behind Tony Romo and the team is impressed with QB Colt Brennan, Hawaii and could be ready to select him as early as in the late 2nd round, most likely 3rd if he's still there. He mentioned they want to continue to develop him over the coming seasons but they feel his development as a passer rates at the top of their board already amongst all rookie QB's.
I think if they draft him, they keep Brad Johnson around one more year as the primary backup, develop Colt Brennan as the third QB, and Colt Brennan becomes Romo's primary backup QB by 2009. This seems like a Jerry Jones type pick, and they've realized through Romo the value of developing a young QB on the bench.
