Percy Harvin: Time to Sell? (1 Viewer)

Gatorman

Supreme Elite Maximum Tier
Percy looked good to start the year and has been a bona fide WR 1 in leagues. However, his injury and schedule down the stretch is somewhat challenging.

Buy sell, or hold here?

His next 5 games after the bye are: Chicago, GB, Chicago, STL, and Houston in week 16.

Percy has had good numbers bs the bears for his career (while Peterson has been held in check). Still, this is a different bears D than years past.

My view is hold but not be surprised if a slightly lower rated WR (Maclin, Colston, etc) out produce him.

I tried trading him for Ridley or LeShoure and was turned down on both (redraft, non-ppr). Yikes. I'm holding him if I can't get a decent RB out of him.

As a Packers fan I shudder to think what Harvin will do to Green Bay in the two upcoming matchups. Green Bay's secondary is awful.

I guess I can understand someone passing in a non-ppr, but both of those still sound like great offers. I've found that trying to trade a player coming off of an injury is often difficult bceause people think that you have some kind of extra information on the severity that they are missing out on.

If I was a Leshoure or Ridley owner I'd jump at the chance to get Harvin for one of them.

Conversely, as a Harvin owner there's no way I'd trade him for either one of those RBs.

I had Harvin, but traded him last week. Here's what I got in a .5PPR / Return yardage league (Obviously, Harvin has been gold for me). I traded Harvin & Morris and got McCoy & Colston. I did it because I needed to replace the two players I sent (out week 10, and Harvin out week 11). Also, the other owner is a big Minnesota fan (he has the K & DST), so that helped, but that's kind of what I'd expect in return for Harvin.

Are you talking redraft or keeper/dynasty? Between the ankle injury and the schedule, I don't see how Harvin is even close in value to Ridley in redraft, at least non-PPR. Ridley is the #7 RB and is getting a ton of carries.

Just for reference I moved him a week or so ago for two late 1sts in a non-ppr. He was holding good value, and I've never felt I could trust him over the long haul. Just a feeling - there just always seems to be drama around him. Crazy talent though - that's clear enough.

I was talking redraft. In keeper/dynasty absolutely no way I'd trade Harvin for either one. But even in redraft and especially in PPR leagues no way I'd do it either. Harvin has been a stud in PPR this season and I'd want a stud in return for him. The trade posted above is one I would make since it brought back McCoy.

HC Frazier believes that Harvin will be healthy enough to play after the bye.

I do think the Bears games could be rough sledding for Ponder and this may hurt Harvins productivity. The game against the Texans as well may be difficult as the Vikings have seemed to have issues with 3-4 defenses and the pass protection is shaky at the guard positions, which means Watt could cause a lot of problems in that game.

I am looking forward to see how Kalil handles Peppers in the Bears games which should be a very good challenge for him. Recently Kalil has been making some great blocks for Peterson and the pass protection has been excellent.

I would keep playing Harvin anyways. He has performed pretty well even when Ponder was struggling (which we will likely see again in weeks ahead). The only concern I would have is if the injury does continue to limit Harvin in weeks ahead.

I think the Vikings have been game planning for the Bears/Packers more than other teams and they may show some new wrinkles that they haven't yet in previous games. With how well Peterson is playing right now Harvin will see some one on one coverage at times.

Traded Harvin and Quizz for Maclin, Bradshaw, and A.Brown recently in .5PPR re-draft. I like Maclin's schedule going forward and I'm not totally sold that Harvin will play in week 12.

What? I wouldn't want either of those scrubs for Percy. Look at Ridley's schedule, why would you even want him?
Also need to take into context the RBs on the team. I drafted McFadden and SJax, and hit on exactly zero bench RBs. I think I started something like Ballard and Dwyer when SJax was on bye. And given I have Julio/Dez, I was willing to part with a Harvin who was going to miss two weeks guaranteed at the time (10 and 11 is bye week) for a decent upgrade at RB whom both have had their byes. Couple that with the fact that I was 4-5 and couldn't afford to lose any more games... it was an easy trade offer.

DAMNIThttp://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Percy_Harvin_Michael_Jenkins_absent_as_Vikings_return_from_bye_week111912"Harvin was absent as the Minnesota Vikings resumed practice on Monday, 15 days after he sprained the ankle in a Nov. 4 loss at Seattle."Most of the swelling is gone," Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said. "It's just sore and pretty tender right now. So, we'll see how he feels when we come back on Wednesday.""
Missing Monday means nothing. I'm not worried unless he's still missing on Wednesday and Thursday.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports Percy Harvin (ankle) "won't play" in Week 12.Even though the Vikings are coming off their bye week, Harvin missed his second consecutive practice on Thursday. Harvin will likely officially end up a game-time decision, but all the early signs suggest he'll remain on the shelf. Rookie Jarius Wright will be tasked with doing his best Harvin impression against the Bears' elite secondary.Source: Jason La Canfora on Twitter Nov 22 - 2:37 PMhttp://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5197/percy-harvin

Speculation La Canfora may have jumped the gun:Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500 Twin Cities reports the Vikings are still holding out "slim hope" Percy Harvin (ankle) will be able to practice on Friday.CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported Thursday that Harvin "won't play" against the Bears, but the Vikings haven't thrown in the towel yet. And we're confident Harvin hasn't, either. Pelissero does confirm that Harvin will miss Week 12 if he's unable to practice on Friday, so we should have a definitive idea of his availability in no more than 24 hours. If Harvin can't play at Soldier Field, rookie Jarius Wright would replace him at slot receiver.Source: Tom Pelissero on Twitter Nov 22 - 4:54 PMhttp://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5197/percy-harvin

I'd rather have him sit out this week and recover so he doesn't re-aggravate the injury since he's still clearly experiencing some difficulties.

Let's talk dynasty. I just traded Percy in two leagues. One, I gave Percy, 1st, 2nd for Julio and the other I got Fitz and a 2nd for Harvin.

I still think he's a great talent but I was willing to trade him for what I see as upgrades. In redraft it's probably too late to trade him now.

I can see making the first trade to get JulioI would not have traded Harvin for Fitz/2nd though.

It's been too quiet. So much for Harvin being a tough guy. Holding out hope that he's 100% by week 15

Both of those trades are horrible!

Perhaps this injury is so bad even a tough guy like Harvin can't play through it.
 questioning harvin's toughness is laughable. i'd like to see them say it to his face, i'd be sure to have a camera rolling. people go blind when players end up on their fantasy benches... harvin has been an exemplification of toughness since he came into the league. injuries happen to the toughest guys in the nfl... are we questioning ray lewis now too? :loco:

Percy Harvin will test out his sprained ankle during Wednesday's practice.

Harvin was able to get a little work in on his own Tuesday. He'll start off Wednesday with individual drills, run some routes and see how he feels. The Vikings will continue to exercise caution with their invaluable all-purpose wideout. For now, we can only consider Harvin questionable for Sunday's game in Green Bay.

The first one is palatable, provided the first is extremely late. I wouldn't do I, but I don't think it's far off. That second one is pretty rough, though.

Percy Harvin (ankle) participated in Wednesday's practice.

He'll likely be listed as "limited." Per ESPN 1500's Tom Pelissero, Harvin "looked himself going straightline," but was limping coming out of his breaks. Pelissero's colleague Judd Zulgad reported Harvin did "not appear comfortable." It would be huge if Harvin could bounce-back to practice again on Thursday, but for now, he's looking like a game-time decision at best.

With the Julio hype I can see what you're saying, but he hasn't lived up to that hype yet. I liked him as much as anyone coming out of college, but I'd rather be trading for Harvin rather than Julio at this scenario.

I sprained my ankle and was back in one week. Man up
Doubt you sprained it in three diff places. Read up
:goodposting: Not to mention that ankle sprains vary in severity. Plus a guy like Harvin isn't very useful without the speed and the Vikings probably want to play it safe with one of their franchise players.

Percy Harvin (ankle) has been downgraded to OUT for Week 13 versus the Packers.

Harvin put in a limited practice on Wednesday but was noticeably uncomfortable coming out of his breaks. He didn't even suit up for Thursday or Friday's sessions. Harvin will give it another try next week. Jarius Wright will again start in the slot with Jerome Simpson and Michael Jenkins on the outside. Wright is a sneaky WR4 this week.

Even if he came back in your FF playoffs, can you risk playing him that first week back?
Yes. Players average as many points per game in weeks where they appear on the injury report and play as they do in games where they don't appear on the injury report.

But there is a difference between being a player that is in the injury report every week but still plays and performs and a player coming back from being out for a number of weeks. Look at pierre garcon for example. it took him a few weeks back in order to get it together.

Just because Garcon produced last week does not mean he put it all together or that wasn't put together before then, but i see what you were trying to say.B.Wells had 40 yards and 2 tds.....meh....it all comes down to whether you are risk averse or a risk taker. If you are a risk taker you go with Harvin, if you are risk averse you go with whoemever you deem as the safer player. So, which are you? There is no wrong answer.
