I drive out into the country a ways to get further away from the city lights, sit in the bed of my pick up, fire up a media noche, and watch the sky for 40 minutes or so. I find predictions as to frequency are more or less worthless. some years when they predict high frequency I see very few, other times the complete opposite.

Yes. Really, it goes on for about a month. But the peak time is between 4 and 5. That's when you have the best chance of seeing the most streaks across the sky.
Near DC area....I woke up around 3:30 a.m. and decided to take a look outside. Had a partly cloudy sky out, but could see in the Northeast direction. After about 10 minutes of nothing, went back to bed...
My whole family woke up at 3:00 a.m. to go to a local park and watch. It was cloudy. We saw a bunch through the holes in the clouds but it was a little disappointing. Given the number we saw in the 5% of unclouded sky, it probably would have been pretty awesome if it was a clear night.
Too much light pollution here (DC area) to see em. Some years I go out to Western MD in August & watch from there... then the clouds roll in.
