funny i just saw that ESPN's Len Pasqurelli reported this.another BSPN exclusive, lolLONG LIVE THE NFL NETWORK!

WOO HOO.I don't care if the Vikings go 0-16 as long as AD/AP goes for 1700/18TD :excited:
Call me crazy but I'm pretty sure they'll win one game with that stat line. :) As to the stats themselves, I think Steven Seagal has a better chance of winning an oscar this year.
Seagal just signed on for the lead role in a remake of Casablanca. Others in the movie are Robert Deniro, Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson and Judi Dench. I'll call it a lock! :lmao:

a holdout was the last potential roadblock for AP to have great value this year. i'm 100% on board now.

The only thing that worries me is the lack of a competent QB. If the Vikes had anyone even remotely decent behind center I'd be touting Peterson for ROY, but right now there's nothing to stop teams from loading up against the run.

A part of me hopes the team will bring back Culpepper.

And they had what last year?

Chester Taylor = :bye:
Nah... they gotta keep him around to do a Cedric Benson impersonation when the Vikes have the Bears upcoming. :)
More like AP is doing the Cedric impersonation when Chester still gets the carries.
Keep dreaming. Huge talent gap between these two. Peterson will be the guy from day one, IMO.
Just what they said about Cedric Benson.....and yet he was the one on the pine

I don't remember anyone saying that.

Also..... Benson held out. So not quite the same situation.

You said decent, right? :goodposting: Thanks. That's the best one I have heard all night! Culpepper and decent in the same post. Gosh, that's funny!

Thomas Jones was a former top 10 overall pick. He has arguably as much talent as Benson, if not more.On the other hand, Chester Taylor isn't in the same class as Adrian Peterson. Peterson is superior in every facet of the game. I don't think you'll find many objective observers who honestly feel that Taylor's talent is on par with Peterson's. I think this is much closer to a Cadillac Williams/Michal Pittman than it is a Cedric Benson/Thomas Jones or even a Reggie Bush/Deuce McAllister. Peterson will become the clear #1 guy for the Vikes this season. There's no doubt in my mind about that.

My point is that he probably won't be in the LJ/LT/Gore/Jackson/Westbrook class until they get a QB who can move the offense.

Culpepper isn't an ideal option, but I think he could potentially be more effective than Jackson. Jackson has intriguing talent, but he doesn't seem ready to run an offense just yet.

if jackson isn't ready, AD will face 8-9 man fronts a lot...

i am as high on him as just about anybody, but if above plays out, it could be very difficult for him to get to 1,300 yards & DD TDs, even if he is the feature RB...

maybe something like 1,100-1,200 yards & 7-8 TDs...

That passin offense is going to be pretty anemic. Best to temper your first year enthusiasm for AD. Especially with Taylor around to at least take some 3rd down looks.

Vikings Sign Peterson

It took LaDainian Tomlinson years of being one of the NFL's top running backs to get the league's richest contract. It took one stroke of the pen for Adrian Peterson to get that done.

Within the last hour, Peterson has agreed to what VU has been told is a five-year deal that, if completed, will be worth $40 million, including $17 million in guaranteed money.

If those numbers prove accurate, it would surpass the contract signed last year by Tomlinson and and will make Peterson the highest-paid running back in NFL history.

MANKATO - Flush with cash from his new six-year contract, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will be on the campus of Minnesota State Mankato this morning. Whether he will practice without physical limitations, however, was still a matter of some debate Sunday evening

The Vikings guaranteed Peterson $17 million over the course of the deal, a critical figure for running backs, who typically have shorter-than-average careers in the NFL. Although the contract technically spans six years, the final year is voidable and exists mostly for salary cap purposes. If he reaches none of the incentives but plays five years, Peterson will earn about $25 million.
http://www.startribune.com/vikings/story/1331685.htmleither way didn't bush get something like 27-28 mill guaranteed last year? Not sure how AD would be the highest paid guy, but whatever its not my money. Go get em AD!

Yeah I don't see how he's the highest paid RB either.Unless they are assuming Bush is a WR, which he is.

The only people who think Chester Taylor is still relevant are the tools that didn't trade him high.

As guys love to argue in the Travis Henry threads, you don't pay a guy that kind of money to ride the bench.

Chester, see ya!

the way I heard it he has to hit tons of milestones to get it that high. It's a very incentive laden deal, and the $40 mill is only is he rushes for 1300+ 3 of his 5 years on the deal. He could reach that amount, but it's likely to be worth around $30 mil if he plays exceptionally well.

I would argue that Culpepper is a worse fit for the WCO than Jackson. Culpepper's success IMO was due to the talent around him. He had (has) a great arm for the deep ball, which suits a vertical passing game. Childress's version of the WCO bases nothing on the vertical passing game. It is all about run after the catch. Culpepper was not very accurate and did not make great decisions. He was often bailed out by Cris Carter's sideline ability and Randy Moss's ability to adjust to the ball.

While I agree that Jackson isn't ready, I just don't think Culpepper has a place here. It would need to be someone else. Just my 2 cents.

P.S. Sorry for the Hyjack. Back to AD talk...

Deuce McAllister had more touches than Reggie Bush last year.Taylor's not dead yet.

But Bush as everyone knows, cant run the ball 20-30x per game, while AD can. Chester may not be dead yet, but he will be sooner rather than later.

That wasn't my point. The point was that New Orleans used both very effectively and both got decent stats. From what I've gathered, Chester will play the "catch the ball out of the backfield" role a-la Bush and Peterson will fill the 18-22 carry per game McAllister role.

Sounds like the reporter is a little off in his numbers. Bush got $26.325M guaranteed / $51M total last year. With incentives it could go as high as $62M. LT got $21M guaranteed / around $60M total. Portis got $50.5M total. SA and Edge both got larger contracts, IIRC.

Culpepper was a very accurate passer. He has a career 64% completion pct. I think his knee caused him a lot of problems as far as accuracy last yr in Miami. How soon people forget how great Culpepepper was. If it was not for Manning's magical season in 2004 then Culpepper would have easily been the league MVP that year. As far as AD goes, I forsee how Jamal Lewis rookie yr was. Taylor starting the 1st month or so with AD spelling him and getting into situational plays and then after that AD becoming the workhorse and starter for the Vikings.

Adrian Peterson > Cedric Benson

Deuce McCallister > Chester Taylor

I don't think the comparisons to NO and Chicago are very apt.

I'm an OU homer, but I'm typically more negative than the masses about individual Sooners as NFL players. That said, AD is for real. This kid was born to be an NFL RB. I've seen virtually every play of his college career, and in my opinion, he just about has it all. His power-speed-balance-instinct combination is off the charts. Add a dash of patience and maturity, and you have yourself one helluva recipe.

I truly believe that this kid is going to take the league by storm. I've never felt so strongly (in a positive way) about an OU player in my 25+ years as a close follower of the program.

Please. I'm already excited about the guy. Don't make me have to change my shorts AGAIN! :hey: :blackdot:

O.K. I wasn't going to hyjack again...but...I maintain that C-Pepp wasn't very accurate. I give you again, the Cris Carter example. Throw 10 passes to Carter and see how many he catches. Then throw 10 to last year's Troy Williamson. Would there be a difference? Some of QB completion pct. is the WR one has. He did have an out standing 2004, thanks in large part to Moss and the rest of the supporting cast...including an outstanding O-Line. I used to be in C-Pepp's corner, but I have seen the light...

Have I stated how excited I am to watch AD with run wild? I can't wait. I just wish he had a better supporting cast...I think the Vikes are in for a long year.

WOO HOO.I don't care if the Vikings go 0-16 as long as AD/AP goes for 1700/18TD
Man, with expectation like those I wish you were in my leagues.
I was in a league with you once a few years back, I remember your name and the Jolly Green Giant avatar. I won the league, not sure if you still wish I was in your leagues.
The proof is in the pudding...........what's your flavor?*Edited to say that I do if you think that Peterson is going to post those numbers.
