Peyton throws arm under the bus; conspicuously silent on neck (1 Viewer)

what's the point of saying lots of Td's on the arm?..We get the point, lots of throws, lots of yardage...but to throw in Td's makes him sound like a jerk.
If you think he's a jerk for saying that, chances are you probably didn't like him much before that statement. The media hangs on every word he's says and everyday after practice they expect him to say something as if that oneday of practice just changed everything. I think saying he sounds like a jerk off of that statement is a little harsh. Keep in mind that he's heard a lot of criticism while not playing that last year too, I imagine he's just ready to get a real game under his belt.

This may end up being a train wreck for Elway.Imagine how fans will feel in Denver if Manning has a poor season which in turn leads to the Broncos having a bad year.To add to that, what if Tebow ends up playing a big part of success in NY with the Jets.Elway has invested a lot of money in an aging qb coming off 3 neck surgeries and a season off. Manning has now publicly said his arm strength is not what it once was. The Broncos have a very tough schedule this year and as big a fan I am of Manning, this could end up going south in a hurry for Elway and the Broncos.
I think most fans accepted the risk of bringing him in. Even if manning gets hurt on the first play in the first game Bronco fans wouldn't turn on Elway.
Manning getting hurt or making deep playoff runs might be the only way Bronco fans won't turn on Elway. If I'm a Bronco fan I'm already ticked off by the way the team fumbled away Cutler. They topped that off by wasting 3 years with the Orton/Tebow experience. When they do finally admit their mistake and cut bait they roll the dice on a guy who's 36, coming off of surgery, and been out of the NFL for a year. At 5 years for 96 million that's a bold statement that says "we're all in". Elway better hope they go to the AFC championship game or Manning gets hurt (other than his neck) because if Manning's neck gives out or he produces a couple of mediocre years and quietly fades into retirement it's entirely on Elway. The Cutler saga isn't on Elway, but the Manning one completely is.
Not a chance, and the hatred for the Cutler move was directed, and appropriately so, to Josh Daniels.

He missed a year of football. He's had multiple surgeries. He admittedly doesn't have the same velocity. He is playing with all new teammates. To be honest the one that scares me the most is the last one. How many years of day-in day-out practices did Manning and his receivers hone their incredible ability to collectively read defenses, make the correct hot reads, and find an opening for a pass completion? For only the second time in Manning's NFL career he's starting from scratch with his WR's. Plus he's physically in the worst shape of his NFL career. I'm not saying I wouldn't draft him, but there is no way I'd take him as a #1 and I'd feel queasy about having him as my #2.
On the other hand, when he had a rookie receiver a couple of years ago, he and Manning went ape.Alright, it was Collie's second year.

Adding 1 receiver to a team/system that Manning had been running over a decade is not even a blip on the radar. Removing Manning from that situation and having him run plays from a new playbook, dropping back behind a new offensive line, throwing to new wide receivers, and playing in a new outdoor grass stadium is completely different.

I agree. Wit and humor are stupid. This world needs more boredom and politically correct quotes from its athletes.

here's the thing though - you know what else is on Elway? Von Miller. John Fox. 2 competent drafts in a row. A return of respectability. A home playoff win. These are all good things. After the disaster of josh mcdaniels, it's really tough for Elway to look bad. The entire cutler-Orton-Tebow thing - that's 100% on mcdaniels. Everything bad that happened in Denver since 2008 is on mcdaniels. There are segments of Broncos country that were big-time Tebow supporters, myself included. There are also segments that were very much anti-Teobw - not that they don't like the person, it's that they don't like the option offense and Tebow's struggles in the passing game. It's really tough though, for anyone except a rabid Tebowite to think that Manning isn't a significant upgrade. I would have preferred Tebow stay in Denver, but I will concede that probably wouldn't have worked. Changing directions, while painful, probably was in the best interest of the organization long term and i'm thankful that Elway had the stones to make the change he felt was necessary.

I hope lots of people feel this way and keep Mannings ADP down.

Benson Will Lead thinks Peyton looked pretty average and most of the zip and velocity was not there. I tend to agree with him but I was hopeful he would shake it off with the rest. What if Manning doesn't have it any more?
All you can do is roll the dice. Rust can be shaken off, but diminished ability can't. At this point we just don't know how much is rust and how much is diminished ability.I think he's going to get better. But I don't know that he's going to get enough better to live up to the expectations of those that took him as a sneaky starter or QBBC member.

I don't know that it was wit. It comes off a bit defensive in nature and may be his way of trying to bolster his cred with the fans by referring to his past. Most of the time players downplay this type of issue and spin with optimism. This almost sounds fatalistic. So either Manning is playing it opposite of normal, or it's so obvious he can't say otherwise with a straight face and has no choice but to acknowledge it.Of course, it's just as likely this is over-analysis and I'm recklessly applying that one psych class I took in college. :P

100% agree with everything you said right here (well, except I probably would still take him as a backup). Manning's been a great QB for a long time, but this is going to be the first time that he's out of that Colts comfort zone he's had his entire career, and I'm not at all convinced that at his age and deteriorating physical health he's going to be able to regain his QB1 status.

The arm looked OK. There were a couple floaters, but also a couple fastballs. I think it's more of a timing issue than an injury issue.
