Phil Simms threatens Desmond Howard (1 Viewer)

I did not see this posted, but thought some might get a kick out of it:

Maybe the chilly weather during Super Bowl week is finally getting to be too much to bear for members of the media.

Former New York Giants star quarterback and current CBS NFL analyst Phil Simms allegedly lost his cool at the NFL Xperience in Dallas on Saturday and threatened to hit ESPN college football analyst Desmond Howard for commenting that his son is one of the worst quarterbacks in the SEC.

Simms' son, Matt, was the starting quarterback at the University of Tennessee before losing his job to freshman Tyler Bray late in the year. Simms finished the 2010 season with 1,460 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions, which were all SEC lows for starting quarterbacks.

Howard posted the following Tweets on his Twitter account:

At NFL-Xperience and Phil Simms just threatened 2 hit me b/c I said his son was 1 of the worse QBs in the SEC. I told him "LET'S GO!"

I am DEAD serious about the Phil Simms thing. We all thought he was joking, but he kept going and said he wanted 2 take a swing at me!!

During the season we talked about the Tenn v LSU game and I said "u will see 3 of the worse QBs in the SEC" That's what Phil did not like.

It ended w/police stepping in between so I could continue my appearance w/fans.

Hopefully the contest between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers on Sunday evening will be as entertaining as that tiff between retired athletes.

If I were Desmond Howard, I probably wouldn't have been so blunt. Out of respect for Phil Simms, I probably wouldn't have used the words Desmond Howard used even if he's right about his analysis.

With that said, you can't go around wanting to fist fight everyone over words. You don't have to like someone and you can even let them know how you feel but you have to know in this media world, that this would definately leak out to the public. Poor decision making by Phil Simms.

I also feel Desmond Howard is a bit of a sissy to run to Twitter and Tweet his little story.

Howard didn't say it to Simms' face. He said it on the air as part of his football analysis. And that's what Howard is paid to do. Worse yet, that's what Simms is paid to do!!! If I was an exec at CBS Sports, I'd call Simms in and ask him if he ever sugar-coated his analysis for any reason, and if so I'd fire his ###.

Hey Desmond, the word is worst not worse you #######, and you are a sissy for going to twitter to post this.

Reporters and commentators do this all the time. You just can't burn every bridge with a group you need regular access to and is a primary source of information.

Everyone's entitled to think what they want but life is far from just black and white Orange Crush. As Griff points out, you don't just burn bridges to burn bridges if you're smart, you never know when you may need something yourself, Desmond is a young guy in the business world. And to your point about sugarcoating it, I still think you can get your message across without being so blunt. I wouldn't lie and say the kid is good or one of the best QB's in the SEC, I would say my true feelings with less offensive words knowing that this guy's Dad is in the same circle I'm in and it wouldn't be smart to ignite this flame unless that's what Des is into.

So Phil won't take offense when he criticizes some player and they take a swing at him after the game. All Simms' kids suck so he should be used to it by now.

Phil Simms is a primary source of information on college athletics for Desmond Howard?
