Why I never bought a gaming console. There are people with addictive personalities that avoid drug use for just that reason.Serious question is it possible for someone who has never tried drugs to be an addict but has fought off strong desires to dull the pain of their life through drug use?
The main reason I will never try "hard" drugs. I don't like prescription meds. I worry about that if I ever have to have something like back surgery and am prescribed opiates. There are people with addictive personalities that avoid drug use for just that reason.Serious question is it possible for someone who has never tried drugs to be an addict but has fought off strong desires to dull the pain of their life through drug use?
LOL at the combination of the avatar picture and the sentence "I had a colonoscopy a few years ago"WhatDoIKnow said:I had a colonoscopy a few years ago. I have no idea what they gave me. When I woke up I remember feeling the best I could ever remember feeling. Everything I looked at was beautiful or awesome, and I couldn't stop smiling.
I thought to myself, "If this is what drug users feel, I completely understand why they do it."
While it's certainly possible to be an occasional user, heroin and similar opiates are very addictive by their nature.Daywalker said:As well as a lot of people use hardcore drugs, similar to how most use alcohol, without becoming strung-out addicts.DSP said:Why do people who have never used drugs think they know the mind of someone who does?
I'm not anti weed I was just remarking on his comment... It could start by taking a relatively "safe" drug a doctor prescribedShort Corner said:Weed's not addictive. Why not? No.Like Weed?Well yeah, but they're in a very different place than what you know. You're way oversimplifying it.At some point, they choose to pick up that needle. That's all I'm saying. For most it's a gradual process to get to that point. It's not like people are just looking for something to do that day and decide on injecting heroin.2) No, apparently they were not smart enough to not inject a drug that would ruin their life.
It could start by taking a relatively "safe" drug a doctor prescribed. The addict's brain wants more and more. It's often an uncontrollable decent. look at alcoholics who drink 5 bottles of mouthwash a day. Did they choose to start drinking mouthwash? They didn't just go into the bathroom one day and wonder what it'd be like to take a few swigs.
I don't buy weed as a gateway drug any more than I do alcohol. The only thing that helps make it a gateway drug is when it's illegal - it'll be sold by the same guy selling coke, heroin, meth, etc. Once weed can be bought at a store like alcohol there's no reason to be in contact with the guy selling all those things.I'm not anti weed I was just remarking on his comment... Many weed supporters contend its a relatively safe drug. So I was just poking for a reaction.
Weed may not be physically addictive, but it brings pleasure to the brain and could be mentally addictive.
despite not smoking in years, I think weed should be legalized and will vote for it when it hits the Florida election soon.
But lets be honest, It can very well be a gateway to harder narcotics for some users.
Dont know why it took me so long to finally see it, but watched Ides last night. Very good, PSH was awesome as usual but couldnt have had more than 10-15 minutes of screen time. He shouldve had more scenes, especially him and Gosling considering PSH was really Gosling's boss here, not Clooney.I guess we care too much about celebs, but I really, really liked Phillip Seymour Hoffman. RIP.He was an actor's actor. The one that stands out for me is Ides of March. Would highly recommend that for anyone who hasn't seen it.
I hate to burst your bubble, but it is. Not on the level of heroin and other harder drugs but it definitely is addictive.Weed's not addictive.
If I need a campaign manager for a tense political thriller, PSH would have been my first call. Giamatti, my second. Perfect casting there.Dont know why it took me so long to finally see it, but watched Ides last night. Very good, PSH was awesome as usual but couldnt have had more than 10-15 minutes of screen time. They drink regularly but not to the point of being drunk. The guy is also a control freak and can not stand the thought of being out of control. Very intelligent and a somewhat deep thinker. As I think more about it, I think I confused addict with depression.Alcohol is a drug, are they addicted to that?Is it possible for someone to be classified as an addict despite never having taken drugs? They experience strong urges and desires to take them but resist the urge to do so, much like a recovering addict might. Similar to a person who is gay but because of fear or religious belief they have never had any gay encounters, but they are still gay correct? I know its just semantics but all the arguments made me think of a person I know who I think has an addictive personality yet as far as I know hasn't done drugs. Sorry for the derailCould you rephrase that. Im confused about what exactly you are askingSerious question is it possible for someone who has never tried drugs to be an addict but has fought off strong desires to dull the pain of their life through drug use?
Yeah thats pretty much how opiates make you feelWhatDoIKnow said:I had a colonoscopy a few years ago. I have no idea what they gave me. When I woke up I remember feeling the best I could ever remember feeling. Everything I looked at was beautiful or awesome, and I couldn't stop smiling.

Saw a Most Wanted Man today. It was pretty good, not great. PSH was really good in it as always.
At the end of the movie, some lady in the back yelled out "Does anyone understand what happened?"
Some other lady answered: "No!"
Despite the movie not being confusing, that exchange was really funny.
Interesting question, tim.Terrible news. Why do so many celebrities, particularly rock stars and movie stars, succumb to this? What is it in the culture of these professions that brings on such death seeking behavior? Never understood it.
