Philly D this week (1 Viewer)

#19 overall this week?

They're at home playing an anemic Miami team who just inserted a rookie QB into the mix. Unless they have massive injuries I'm not aware of, it seems like Jim Johnson will have a pretty good gameplan in place to take advantage of the circumstances. I know defensively Philly has not been as good as usual this season, but it sure seems that they are a very nice spot play for the week.

What say you, sharks?

I do not fancy myself a shark. Nor do I question the ranking. Having said that, I dropped dead weight on my team and scooped up the Eagles D last night and am starting them over Chicago. Bears D is getting their groove back a bit but I don't like their matchup at Seattle. The Eagles D have been under achievers all year but I really like them to explode this week against Miami and make John Beck's life miserable. Eagles homer here - I see the defensive game plan as pressure, pressure, and more pressure. The team is fired up and feels that at 4-5 they are in no way out of it in the wild card race. They are not underestimating Miami either. Dawkins kind of energized the team when he was covering kicks late in the game against Washington to preserve the lead, he told Reid he wanted in, so Andy complied. I like the Eagles to have 5-8 sacks, recover 1-2 fumbles, snag 1-2 picks, and possibly score a defensive TD. Their ST is far from special, but I like the D to romp.

big eagles fan

we dont get any turnovers, have no chance for special teams points, and dont get a lot of sacks

so all you will be hoping for is to keep the score low which may not generate enough fantasy points

You are correct. This Defense flat out sucks from a fantasy perspective. Heck they may suck from an NFL perspective as well. But since this a FF forum they flatout suck. I own these dopes and they are #32 in my league. I don't whats worse, their FF value or the fact thatIi haven't dropped them for someone else yet. This is the last week I use them, playoffs are coming and the Eagles DEF is not worth carrying after this week.

The Dolphins have run the ball on every team they've played so far this year - except when they were down by 70 to the Patriots. Their offense does score.

The Philly D is not such a slam dunk this week.

No WR, No R. Brown, Rookie QB and Philly has some motivation, this is going to be a slaughter.

They are ranked #18 in mine, but this one is easy, can't you smell that blood?

Booker & Ginn - I can definitely see Ginn catching a deep one.Have you watched RB Jesse Chatman play at all?John Beck's 1st start - I'll give you that one.Again - they've run the ball on every team this year. They will put points on the board as I'm guessing they'll be very careful with Beck and the plays they call for him.It might be a slaughter but it will be of the 44-21 variety.

:lmao: At least 4 turnovers. Mia will be lucky to get 10 points and Beck will be lucky to have 150 yards passing.

Plus you have to trust a Cowboys fan when he says Philly is the play of the week.

:goodposting: You guys are going to look back at this thread and regret you didn't listen. I'm casting my lot with that Philly D this weekend and I'm not looking back. Guys "They are starting a ROOKIE QB" Hello! Hello!

I own them and Houston in one league. Two sucko defenses.

One thing I vividly remember from this year is the Phi/Det game where Phi racked up major sacks. Now I don't expect Miami to throw the ball 50+ times, but I like Philly to finish top 12 this week. Miami sucks too and they are going with a rookie. If they fall behind, they are not just going to keep running and running.

We shall see then. The are going to be very conservative with Beck. Chatman will be a busy man.

A rookie QB at the helm changes everything. T. Green was horrible but teams still had to respect him. There's no respect for this guy and unless he's Marino II this is going to be ugly.

From what I've seen so far this year, when the Eagles play a below average defense (which the Dolphins most certainly are), the only thing stopping the offense is themselves. At home, in a must win, I just can't see Reid's playcalling, McNabb's inconsistency, or any other obstacle getting in the way of a huge offensive outburst. This in turn will most likely take the Dolphins away from what they've been doing well so far, running the ball. As a result, you're putting more pressure on a QB making his first NFL start, and a defense that hasn't been forcing turnovers will change that.

I am 100% positive that Jim Johnson is going to be putting pressure on Beck from all angles to try and confuse him. There will be sacks, and many of them. Probably a couple of turnovers as well, maybe even a defensive TD. Special teams is awful. I can also see the Eagles getting up big and the Dolphins scoring a couple garbage time TD's to increase their point total.

I see it like this: 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 1 int, 17 points scored. If that's better than what you expect out of your current defensive unit, I'd go with the Eagles.

Philly Defense has been mediocre all year from a fantasy perspective. Average in sacks, low in turnovers, very low in ST/DEF TD's.

While I expect a great game from them this week, I have a hard time seeing a mediocre ranking as unfair.

From an NFL perspective...Philly's Defense has been solid, but not overwhelming. It's there ST's (minus Akers) that have sucked.

They just do not get turnovers and you can bet the house that they wont let Westbrook return punts/kicks so no return TDs either. If your league scoring is mostly based on points scored against they are a good pick up. However if you need turnovers and tds... good luck.

Lito Sheppard and B-Dawk are back in the secondary, which makes a significant difference in the turnover department.

I haven't quantified the stats yet, but I'm sure the numbers support it - INTs go up with both in the secondary.

The likely benching of William James (or whatever his name is now - he still stinks) for Joselio Hanson is also an improvement.

That should certainly help, I agree. Besides, with a rookie QB starting his first NFL game on the road (no matter how limited the gameplan will be) and having to deal with JJ's defensive schemes, it just seems to be a better situational matchup than a good portion of the 18 other teams listed ahead of Philly this week. Only time will tell, though....

all miami really has is a running game. and this is the same philly run D that was able to hold ADP to 20 carries for 70 yards. and are only giving up 3.8 yards a carry. not a great game to start a rookie QB. throwing him to the wolves imo.

Miami has nothing to lose by starting Beck this week. They're a desperate team. I'd be surprised if they put up more that a couple of garbage time scores, though, and Philly should be able to pressure the QB all day....

I've been wondering the same thing all week. I have the Chargers Def, who is #1 overall for DEF....but I'm sticking in the Eagles this week off the waiver wire. This is a great matchup.

Plus, Garrard hasn't thrown in INT and the Jags will control the clock. Whereas Mia will be playing catchup.

Bob Harris, a guy who I trust in FF a lot has PHILLY DEF ranked #27 this week. I just don't get it???

Playing catchup, vs a rookie QB, in a hostile environment, against an aggressive def coordinator. Seems like a recipe for success.

What gives?

Any FBG staff members want to chime in here? Explain the reasoning.

More fuel to the fire: weather in Philly today calls for 46 degrees, 50% chance of rain at gametime, increasing to 70% by the second half.

big eagles fan we dont get any turnovers, have no chance for special teams points, and dont get a lot of sacksso all you will be hoping for is to keep the score low which may not generate enough fantasy points
Great Call!!!!! How did you know the Eagles dont get sacks or turnovers but may not give up a lot of points?Oh wait I posted that
