Philly Dallas not flexed? (1 Viewer)

I know they need to give 1 week early notice but they left Philly- Dallas?

I know it's a big rivalry and it's the Cowboys and all but I don't see why this game was left on the schedule as the night game.

ETA:

Better matchups

Seattle vs Chicago

Minn vs GB

Pitt vs Balt - I know they can't 2 this weeks apart and both night games

Indy vs Detroit

TB vs Denver

Both teams could be last and 2nd to last in the league and it would still draw a big audience. I know it sucks for majority of the US to watch, but they are both big market teams and in the end it's just a business.

Its another opportunity for the national media to wag its collective finger at Philly and warn us yet again how big a mistake it is to fire Reid. There's no one better....ever.

Great post. Apparently NBC thinks if they trot out 2 teams that were good a long time ago or were supposed to be good this season, that fans will watch anyway. What makes the whole thing even more bizarre than the fact that you have 2 sub .500 teams that are virtually out of the playoff race (and 3rd and 4th in their division), is that the Eagles might be Vick-less and will be without McCoy - so it's not like the teams are even at full strength and some of their star players are out.Sometimes NBC is just plain dumb.

Jerry Jones is probably part of the reason - can you see his reaction if the league pulled a Cowboys game off prime-time? Idiot.

ETA: Changed "NFL" to "NBC" where appropraite, as they are the idiots the ones who decide.

Philly fans will watch either to see the train wreck or because we have some morbid sense of duty to watch this thing go down.

Dallas fans are all across the country like cockroaches. They'll tune in because they should win easily.

Cockroaches watch TV in your house? Odd.

I have no doubts it will actually be watched by the groups.I also guess I need to apologize, it's apparently NBC's decision not the NFL's, which I thought it was the NFL

Not only will it draw Philly and Dallas fans, but it should draw Giant and Redskin fans since the outcome impacts the playoff picture of those teams.

Because Dallas will bring in more viewers than those better games.
Okay, but the idea was to flex in games that are relevant to the playoff race. Having a game with the free-falling 3-8 Eagles directly goes against that. I am sure they are keeping Dallas because of ratings, but if it is all about ratings, then why did they pick the Rams/Seahawks as their Week 17 game two years ago? Sure, it was a "winner wins the division" game, but what about the ratings??

Supposedly Bucs-Broncos not flexed because:

But here was the Broncos' problem with the flex: After their Sunday (Dec. 2) game against Tampa Bay, which now stays with its 2:05 p.m. MST kickoff, Denver plays four days later in a Thursday night game at Oakland. To take away 4½ hours of recovery and preparation time would have put the Broncos further away from peak performance.Apparently, NBC and the NFL agreed that the flex schedule cannot put one team at a competitive disadvantage. Besides, the Broncos already have played four prime-time games, and the Oakland game will be five. There's a great chance they will be playing in prime time in January. And Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning isn't exactly underexposed.
http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_22038066/no-flex-bucs-broncos-stays-putChicago has had 3 Monday night games, a Thursday night game and at least 1 Sunday night game already this year, so they must be at or near the max (unless that rule is gone now?) and with 3 divisional games left, NBC may just want to hold out for one of them.GB has had 1 Thursday and 1 Monday and maybe 1 Sunday night (can't recall) and has 1 more Sunday night upcoming. That does seem like a viable option, as would Indy-Detroit, but maybe Fox and CBS protected them, knowing that NBC couldn't/wouldn't take the others.

None of the alternatives jumped out at me as, wow, I can't believe they aren't trying to flex that game.

It's no surprise that the media hasn't caught on to the fact that no one really gives a #### about the Cowboys anymore.

Say what you want about both teams and how they've done this season, but as was said above, none of the other matchups really stand out. PHI-DAL still has more nationwide appeal, than say, SEA-CHI. The national games cater to every level of fan, not just the hardcore ones.

SEA-CHI is a way better game. It's not even close. Dallas and Philly are both under .500 and at the bottom of their division and not really a threat at all. Rivalries suck when both teams involved are terrible. Chicago, on the other hand is leading their division narrowly and Seattle has to win to keep up with SF. Both teams are above .500 and playing better football. Are there really people outside of Texas who still say "Oh look, the Cowboys are on. I've gotta watch!"

Like I said, it is a better game to a hardcore football fan. But not every national game is catered to only fans who know this is a better and more competitive game. Casual fans still see PHI-DAL and think "that's a good game".PLus, the media exposure link above proves you're just flat out wrong when it comes to Cowboys buzz. I don't really care, but many, many people still do.

The pending Browner and Sherman suspensions really killed the appeal of this game imho. Yeah, they will play this week, but I can't see the Seahawks winning 3 of 4 without them and they will have to.

I wish one national media guy will say that Andy Reid will do well as a coach for another team....and it is still the right move for Philly to fire him because he needs a fresh start and Philly fans need a fresh start with a new coach. For all the good he has done in Philly, he has lost the fans and it is very counterproductive for the team when Eagle fans are not behind their coach. Should it be that way? Maybe not, but if you can't change reality (i.e. how Eagle fans are) then you have to work within that reality.Plus, I think Andy Reid without Jim Johnson will continue to be an average coach unless he finds someone as good as Jim Johnson to coach his defense. He is 0 for 2 so far (McDermott, Castillo).

Or at least acknowledge that coaches do burn out after a while. I'd imagine having 2 sons arrested and serve jail time, then have to bury one of them would certainly speed the burn out process.I'm just sick of hearing people like Ditka, Mariucci, etc. wave a finger and tell us "careful what you wish for Philly". Yeah, we've never heard that - they're so original. We might even end up back like the Rich Ko...never mind, we're actually worse now. Not that any of them would do the research to know better. We're just idiot Philly fans. We don't deserve better than "almost".

GB has had 1 Thursday, 1 Monday, 2 Sundays and 1 upcoming, which would basically max them (though I do see that there is an exception that 3 teams can have 6).

Which means Romo is in for another 5 turnover game. Can't wait to watch this trainwreck of a game.

It's a little bit more than a week until the end of the season. The week 14 & 15 flex decisions have been announced already (confirmed to be no change).
For each of the flexible scheduling weeks with the exception of Week 17, the NFL will announce the start times of games on Sundays no later than 12 days prior to that weekend. To ensure a Sunday night game and doubleheader games with playoff implications in Week 17, the flexible scheduling decision for that Sunday may be made on six days notice.
