Philly Turning On McNabb? (1 Viewer)

For the record, I do think some fans are a little quick with the boo's most of the time. But I don't have much issue with the team being boo'd Monday night, it was horrendous. It is a tough city to play in, but it's not impossible. It can also be the best city to play in if you embrace it. T.O. was a megastar in Philly, and the T.O. chant kicked ###. SF didn't do the chant, Dallas doesn't, but we did. WE GOT T.O. #####

in ray rhodes last year and andy reids 1st year, there were at least 2 games that were blacked out on tv because the games were not sold out and countless others where tickets had to be bought off. those years TEAM records were 3-13 and 5-11. there was no wait for season ticket holders until the eagles started winning under reid. loyal to the team? no... band wagon jumpers? yes!

edit to add that i am from philadelphia. south jersey actually but... i was born and raised here. its the radical idiot fans that really make me angry. the people that call for aj feeley and jeff garcia. the people that critisize reid because he is human and has made some mistakes. i'm not saying you are one of them, but the majority are and our media is even worse.
my brother works for the Eagles, media department making flyers and promo items for the PR guys and my dad has held season tickets since 1985 so I have a ton of useless info on the birds......the Eagles have NEVER had a black out game under Andy Reid. they had two under ray rhodes and two under rich kotite. that's only four since 1991 which is fourth least in that time period (only behind the two NY teams and the redskins). my dad is a season ticket holder. the wait for season tickets is currently three years... in 1995 it was one year..... so you're wrong again. by the way, the last two games of the 1999 season (Reid and McNabb's first seasons in Philly) were in danger of blackouts. one was the Pats game sold out about an hour b4 the deadline (the friday b4 the game) and the other was the rams game (last game of the year and the rams were resting all their starters after having clinched home-field throughout the playoffs). the eagles had won 4 games at that point. the vet held 65,000 and 62,00 tickets had been sold but team toyota (local dealership) bought all the seats so that it wouldn't be blacked out BUT then they were able to SELL ALL those tickets as discounted walk up seats (face value was $45/ticket at that time but those seats were sold at $35 by team toyota and the entire stadium was sold out by kickoff).

GET YOUR DAMN FACTS STRAIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for the record I have admitted that the 24 years of no championships has made Philly fans more desparate and more impatient than they ought to be. the lack of titles has certainly caused a great deal of frustration that has unfarily be channelled towards guys like McNabb and Reid but overall mcNabb has been loved in this city and he's gotten significantly better treatment than any star in recent history. with all that said, we've loved him BUT he continues to do and say things to piss us off... it's like he doesn;t want us to like him... and can we let go of the draft thing already. 30 guys went up to NY and booed him. they were wrong. I wanted Ricky Williams or Torry Holt that year and I got McNabb. I was wrong. But I and MOST Philly fans have been very loyal to McNabb BUT I think the tide is starting turn.

and it has nothing to do with race. it's about winning... and not just winning in the regular season... it;s about winning CHAMPIONSHIPS! nothing less is acceptable. that was my whole point to the original posting

I lived in Philly for three years so I love hearing Philly fans make excuses for their abhorent behavior to their own players. Yes, they have been selling out Eagle's games, but the Eagles are consistently one of the best teams in the league and they have made the playoffs just about every year the past 6 or 7 years. What NFL playoff team doesn't sell out?

I think the list is endless why Philly fans are the worst fans in all of sports (see the posts above, including my own), but I think my favorite is that the sports gods have withheld any championships from Philly because of its bad behavior.

As much as I love Philadelphia the city, and I have fond memories of my time there, I hope they don't get a championship until they shape up.

Shape up Philly fans! We have offended the gods! That's why we haven't gotten a championship!

i wont boo him really...actually i would boo the fact that he won't allow someone who is more healthy to start

id rather see someoen 100% out there then him at 50% risking injury even further for his sake

ok my fault. i thought the two black out games i remember was one in rhodes' last year and one in reid's first year, but now that you mention it, i do remember it was two in rhodes' last year. i think that makes my case even stronger though. two in one year when the team really stunk. most fans gave up on the team. lehigh98 mentioned something about philly teams stinking, but still selling out games, which is not the case as i pointed out.as far as the season tickets are concerned, i think you are mistaken about the 3 year wait now. i think it is much longer then that, but my point was this.... before the eagles started to win under reid, it was VERY easy to get season tickets. i think my buddy was called within several months of getting on the list.

some nfl teams, like the jets for example, have REDICULOUS waiting lists of years and years and years. and from what i understand, they pretty much always have. i know a guy that just got his jets season tickets after a 15 year wait. not that jets fans are great fans, those new yorkers are crazy, but the point is made.

it may seem like im getting off topic here or stealing the thread, but really my argument is pointing towards how eagles fans are not as loyal as they claim to be and that is why mcnabb is being turned on. for the most part anyway.

obviously andy reid feels that mcnabb is the best candidate to start for the team right now. why should you question him at this point? its to early to question him. trust the coach. you cant bench your star qb after one aweful performance. this is exactly what im talking about. philly fans at their finest right here. the majority anyway.

Ironically Andy Reid is McNabb's worst enemy right now. D Mac clearly is still not fully recovered from his surgery yet they still won't help him out by calling a more balanced game plan. They tailored their offense when Garcia was running the show, give McNabb the same help. Get Buck some more touches and activate Tony Hunt. They spent a first day pick on him and he hasn't even dressed. Reid and Marty should be protecting McNabb rather than throwing at a 70% clip.
