Pierre Thomas' status? (1 Viewer)

Weird that we've seen nothing substantial in terms of updates. He was supposed to be out 2-3 weeks.

My guess is a combination of Ingram looking fantastic is that they aren't rushing Thomas back in. Robinson's dinged, but Cadet seems to be doing relatively fine in that part of the game so not sure that situation makes Thomas's return less urgent or not.

As a guy who has been holding onto Thomas, my hope is that he returns to some meaningful touches per game simply because of his talent and his utilization out of the backfield. But let's be honest, this backfield is all about Ingram right now, and barring an injury (still possible, it's Ingram we're talking about), I don't think Thomas returns to the exact role he had in terms of touches.

Love Thomas in my PPR league, but not sure if he retains value if/when he does return, and am prepared to drop him for handcuff lottery for playoffs.

Blurb from another fantasy service: "New Orleans Saints RBs Pierre Thomas (shoulder/ribs) and Khiry Robinson (forearm) didn’t practice. RB Mark Ingram (shoulder) was limited but would carry the load again if they can’t play vs. the 49ers."

Ingram isn't going to get 30 carries every week, obviously. I think PT still has value as a matchup play in a game you anticipate a shootout or the Saints trailing in the second half.

If he is not practicing by today, you can probably bet that he is not going. Injury time frames are always pretty farcical. People around here are always attempting to turbocharge them as well.

Also, lets face it...Ingram has been killing it for a good deal of time now. Do you think the coaches want to have the pressure of trying to screw that up right now, now that they are winning?

Payton is more than a few years removed from that Superbowl and has not recently made the playoffs. If he misses this year, with the way that division is....I would not be surprised to see his ### canned. He is in a spot where he almost has to let the Ingram thing play out. If he keeps riding Ingram and he fails, then fine, that is not his fault. If he cuts him down to 12 carries a game and then brings in PT and Khiry, well....I think many people will justifiably question his sanity.

I think they know having a strong running game with Ingram is important.

But even he if continued to get 20 carries a game, that still leaves plenty of situational snaps for PT.

The Saints are in a mediocre division that, with 7 games left, is still completely up for grabs. I'd be of the mindset that, if I had a weapon that was available to me, I'd use.

While there is no doubting Ingram's success these last two weeks, something tells me the minute PT or Robinson are healthy, they will be back in the mix.

IMO, the Saints winning again has as much to do with a healthy Jimmy Graham as it does with an emerging Mark Ingram. A heathly PT would only contribute to those winning ways.

If PT and Khiry sit out again...what kind of roll, if any, does Cadet play? Would he get a decent amount of snaps do you suspect? Byes are killing me this week and I'm left with Starks or Cadet. I'm leaning Cadet since it is a PPR league but if PT is back, I suspect Cadet will be an after thought.

Doubt PT is back this week. In PPR, I'd hope for a few receptions for Cadet over the possible zero Starks could give you.

Since this is a PT thread, I will say that I feel Cadet will get his snaps cut at the expense of PT. PT will also eat into Ingram a little bit, but not much.

Cadet will have same role as he has had over the last few games with Robinson ailing and PT out -- 1 or 2 rushes, 3-4 receptions for 30-40 yards.

That value is dependent on your scoring for receptions, but I don't think Cadet is going to be a meaningful factor in helping you win games any given week.

Kind of amusing to watch a simply question about Thomas' status to morph into a discussion the Saints RB usage moving forward. I have finally seen some info about Thomas not practicing, so it helps me make a decision on who I start.

Bumpski. Thomas practicing in light workouts through last week, but not in team drills. Now Baker was just released, potentially to fill out injuries to Cooks and Rafael Bush, potentially because Thomas is expected to get back to playing this week.

He's a guy I held all season in a PPR league given that he will get playing time when he returns. He's also someone that I was very close to cutting for depth elsewhere (extra D heading into playoffs, perhaps).

What do people think about Thomas' ROS effectiveness if/when he returns?

Is this guy going to be fantasy viable as a low ceiling flex, or are others thinking of cutting bait even if he returns?

Been monitoring the practice reports myself but seen nothing you haven't.

I like his ROS prospects a LOT based on three factors: favorable schedule, Ingram and loss of Cooks.

Schedule: Wks 14/15/16 = CAR/CHI/ATL

Ingram: Getting beat up with 25 carries/game so see less reliance to ensure he's healthy for playoffs

Cooks: Many think Cooks injury means a big bump for STills/Colston. IMO they are deeper threats and PT will contribute more filling that void.

:whoosh:

I get that you are excited at the prospect of PT coming back in time for the FF playoffs, but no need to blind yourself with false thinking. The Saints are 4-6. They just lost, at home, to a dreadful Bengals team that turned in a historically bad performance just the week prior.

There is no way on earth they are resting players for the playoffs. On the contrary, they likely know that the best games they have played (and won) in recent weeks were the ones where Ingram carried a full load.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually don't see Ingram getting beat up with the carries. He is limited in practice but I think that is simply giving the workhorse more rest as opposed to really having a shoulder issue.

Thomas will see some work when he returns, but the question I have is whether Ingram earned and will continue to be a workhorse back given the success he's had in the role. This naturally means Thomas may not see the volume of meaningful snaps he did before going down and Ingram's coming out party, which makes me more skeptical of Thomas's value down the stretch.

I don't know what's up with Pierre either (last presser I have Payton said they look forward to challenge of mixing him back in, but no status), but they will need him in the screen game. The Saints are sorely needing him with Cooks out and all the rest of quickly diminishing talent going on.

There seems to be an absence of news about Thomas and the Saints RBs in general in FGB players in the news content. Come on guys, we need something here...

@_numberthreeRB Nice meeting u on the plane. I hope u made ur flt to SA. Congrats again and wishing u and ur family all the best.

What on Earth does it mean?

It means that Khiry might have been on a plane today to San Antonio...which means, given Leonard was cut, that PT may be more likely to suit up than KR.

:tinfoilhat:
Yup, Khiry is in San Antonio right now:

Hanging with this guy apparently:

So can we consider Khiry OUT for Monday?
